My slammer III has performed pretty much flawlessly for the past three years. I open it up once a year for maintenance only to find it clean on the inside despite getting dunked while surf fishing. Like you said " a quick rinse and we're done", treating my Diawa BGs the same has resulted in ceased bearings.
Lovely reels ,cracking review,I just bought the penn slammer 4 dx ,incredible reel, for surf fishing for sea bass uk,I just wanted to say I'm south African and most anglers there have the handle on the right side too I'm right handed but can't use the handle on the left, this video has vindicated my argument with the locals who call me kak handed, cheers keep it up bud
Watching you years back, flipping your lucky Penn visor on. Then you finally reviewed your gear. I knew that would be my saltwater rig. I don't think you had a sponsor at all back then. Well deserved.
Love the sealed PEN reels. All I use when I’m out on the JetSki fishing. Hopefully the weather clears up a bit so you can get out to the islands again 🤙
awesome to see u get the 'authority' to try the new reel. i remember first seeing the reel at a tackle store where it was in a water tank and they were testing it to see if the bearing was soaked after 1 week. this was b4 the offical announment. im surprised to see the slow osluation system on a reel like that.
So much looking forward for your new kayak.. I just loved the existing one and how it came out with custom mods but time flies fast so, very excited.. Cheers mate and good luck with the weather.. 😜
I've used them all the way up to $1000+ reels. Penn makes decent stuff, they are work horses tank like build. Shimano's are just much much better in smoothness overall. Okuma's are like the poor man's shimano they work like penn's but have the performance of shimano's. Anything else i receive i just give it away or sell it on ebay. Tried close to 300 reels and rods so far in my life btw. Own 15 rods and 25 reels.
This fishing reel is very good for use at sea. I am one of the Penn Reel users in Indonesia. I really support me fishing every day at my place. and I forgot to clean it but it's always in good condition.
I'd rather watch Rob unwrap his new reels and dunk them in the water than just about anything on network or cable TV... thanks for the new content and the work involved in producing it! what's going on with the sailboat? Aloha and shakas from NS Oahu!
A cheap flimsy aluminum bail didn't stop Aflred Glassell Jr in catching his 1560 lb black marlin. Nor did it stop Enrico Capozzi's 735 marlin being caught on 6lb test line. Leo Cloosterman's 573 lb blue marlin wasn't fazed either using a shimano reel. Hmmm let's see Jay de Beaubien's 1376 lb pacific blue marlin caught on another fin-nor reel hmmmmm. Linda miller wasn't fazed by her "bail" on her world record 632 all womens class 16 lb test. I can go on and on point is quit with your bias. You probably only used max 5 reels in your life.
Love watching your videos. Especially love your solo overnight adventures. Are you gonna be doing more solo camps? I'm from Hawaii and love camping with my family. so, it's interesting how you pack so simple and yet have pretty much what you need. Looking forward to seeing more adventures..
I’m a little jealous! I I’m a Penn reel fan for sure. Keen to see what you think about (and to see) the 8500, guessing it’s huge given the size of the 5500. Thanks for the review, now it’s time to save my pennies …me wants a precious! 😂
Most reels above $300 normally isn't worth it. That goes for bass fishing all the way up to inshore salt water. Offshore is another ball game. Unless your after pelagic trophy record caching 700+lb sail fish with 6lb test line. Then again most fisherman don't have the experienc but they have the wallet and not enough brains lol.
I also rigged my spinning reels the same way left handed but I'm actually right-handed. All my arsenal is penn reels they just handle it the price points always on Target
Those look sharp, you're quite right on the difference in the sound. One sounds like a bank vault dial the other sounds like a vault that is in a home. Small subtle difference , is there a touch difference when spinning it by hand?
Love your videos dude. Just don't really understand this move by Penn, nice reel but they discontinued the Torque which was all CNC machined and US made for just a little bit more.
I’ve seen a lot of your videos. You mentioned your left handed but have the handle on the right. I’m from Florida and I’m right handed and always use the handle on the left side of a spinning reel. It’s also funny here we call a king fish what you call a Spanish. Looking forward to you catching a big king on that beautiful 5500 reel or as you would say a Spanish.
They're a different fish. Look up narrow-barred spanish mackerel. They're what we get in aus and SA. Similar, but they grow a bit bigger than your kings!
Shame we didn't get to see the 8500, also are you just putting those on some slammer rides or did you step it up and put them on some nice Fuji Rods or tsunami's? I'm definitely going to be getting a new pen pretty soon to tackle some things and things and I'd like to know how much you were paying for those down under
Why is that? Pretty much every Australian fishing youtuber I've watched reel in with their right hand, super uncommon where i live 😅 Great vid as always, reel looks absolutely sick 🔥🔥
Tis has always been an interesting topic for me.. a few years back I travelled extensively and found that in countries with left hand drive vehicles the reel arms were prominently mounted on the left when going out on charter and in right hand drive countries the were predominantly mounted on the right.. I always banter with my mates from the States that they are fishing on the wrong side of the road when they come to South Africa for a fishing trip because their reel arms are always mounted on the left..
From an efficiency standpoint, you should wind the reel with your non-dominant hand so that there's no need to swap hands after you cast eg if you are right handed, then you cast with the right hand and wind with the left. If you think about it logically, your dominant hand should be holding the rod as its the rod that does most of the work when fighting a fish.
@@8CSKN8 I don’t agree In south Africa and the UK almost only left hand people has the reel arm on the left and from what I see on Aussie channels they are about the same And I say “almost” I’m ambidextrous so for me it don’t really matter I grew up reel arm on the right rock and surf Then a few trips to the states reel arm on the left.. It’s weird stuff and it always makes me laugh but that’s the simple truth..

Penn please start using high aliminuim grade ( light n rigid enough) change old reel design not just the colour ( even the handle colour in this reel not matching nicely with reel’s body overall) , have better QC , worm gear osc. for better castibility n longer spool with forward wide angle lip.

They have the rep of one of the most reliable and popular 4x4 ever made and yet they are all made off shore in Taiwan and other countries now. A Diawa bg isn’t sealed.
@@heinzrudiger287 obviously, but you would think they'd be able to handle the occasional saltwater splash.

Well, a little bit of Christmas joy on this video ~ totally excited to review the reels! Can't wait for the real testing of them. Thanks for trying!
430K subs! Congrats, RoKKiT! Here's to them continuing to climb!
Bought a pen slammer iv because of you and I love it. Got it last year. The penn authority looks aggressive and higher quality
The Stainless steel gear will be more durable but the brass is durable enough.in the Slammer.
I love Penn, I’m using Penn b2 for almost 3 years now still amazing..
Front pocket is for the handle. The rep gave us a look a while back very nice 😍
Always a good time watching one of your vids. And those are some kickass reels right there. Looking forward to seeing them out on a trip!

Hey mate what size is your dark grey true kit is it 3.3 or 4m thanks Sean
It sounded a little rough on film. Hopefully it breaks in well.
Love my Penn reels.
Keen to try this reel out!
How do you decide which reel to use when you have the 2500, 3500, 5500…? I’ve never figured this out.
Super nice reel. Like to see the difference between this new reel vs the Slammer III. Please keep us post it.👍
The Slammer has a brass main gear and IPX rating of 6
What happened to the landy Rod?
That’s some serious cash right there they are going for like 600$ not even out yet I’m guessing your a tester?
Quality stuff💫👍
at similar price points how would you rate the authority VS the van stall VRs?
For the surf go VS but this reel is designed for offshore or big game.
5500 looks massive, looks bigger than a 5500 slammer
oooh nooo... I just got the slammer IV🥲
Have you ever seen a great white shark while fishing? Are you afraid of them?
Do you take pounds and times it with kilograms?
$679 reel dammm you lucky mate
I wish penn stuck with the gold rather then yellow paint with the velocity maybe it is but in the video it very much looks yellow
Maybe im wrong against the slammer maybe its just how it looks on video
Make that 8500 your island land based popping/stickbait setup I wanna see you catch some big bangers
What's the drag of the ss500?
Reel badak reel yg sangat istimewa 👍

how much does it cost in US bro?
The 8500 is $570.
Wouu rill yang sangat mewah.
Oh dear I think I've just seen the end of legend
reel-y nice
Its so heavy wtf? And how are they gonna charge that money and still have a 2 piece handle? Its the same money as a TP SWA or Certate SW
Authority has CnC machined all stainless gear train. Both TP and Certate have aluminum gearing, which is lighter, but stainless is stronger.
Penn will sell alot of reels from your review.
It looks like a cracker, I didn't think I needed more gear but now I do...looks like it's yak proof so I'll save on service costs:)
Big fan on the reel just not on the packaging
Bit OTT waste 😬
