The real problem with electric outboards is not the motors, but the batteries. Quick scan of battery weights and sizes, most LiFePO4's are over 15lbs per kwh. I think the best I have read might be 10lbs per kwh (but I don't know if that includes the case). The hopes of solid state are to hit 5lb per kwh. 5 gallons of gas will run my 6hp kicker about 5hrs, and weigh roughly 40lbs (including tank). A 3hps equivalent electric will need 3kw/h (and honestly I question the equivalent part). With the average current LiFePO4 batteries, 1hr of run time would weigh 45lbs. If solid state ever lives up to its hopes, then it will still only be a little better than 1/2 the weight efficient as gas. There will be situations that the weight penalty does not really matter that much, but there will also be many that it will. You will either loose range or performance - at least for anytime in the foreseeable future. FWIW, I have an Epropulsion Spirit on a micro skiff. It is relaxing and enjoyable - but 9 times out of 10 the performance hit is so bad I will be using a gas outboard on it instead. Right now I have about a 16 mile range over 4hrs with electric, or a 75 mile range over 5hrs with gas.

Donald Trump clearly pointed out the dangers of boating with powerful batteries. Have we learned nothing from his most excellent shark and battery story?

That On/Off/Circuit Breaker seems pretty awesome. But that guy from Mechanical Products seemed very surprised when you said kayak.

Good stuff. Interesting to see what's around the corner
thanks, looks like everyone wants to do an electric outboard!
I should put that 90k motor on my 30k boat lol
🤣🤦🤤
Great walk through. I missed the battery disconnect/breaker
I think that will be super useful

Where are the Mercury and Yamaha electrics?
Seem to be at the 20:20 mark……hehe.
Lithium and water = fire so what is the solution on these battery powered engines. 115 HP for $90k never mind the weight makes it unusable.
@Seektruth-59 he did say $90,000 for a 115, correct??
@@lyerlya pretty sure yes

Too many electric motors!! That switch that acts as an off switch and breaker is great!!

$90,000 for a 150hp electric moto.r is absolute insanity.
I just really feel sorry for people who buy electric outboards.

The electric mud motor you hold would get rid of an emergency paddle…but 1800$ usd 😂
Pretty high priced to make frappe’s
@@phils6733 lol 😂
For the guys with the electric motors, how do you have emergency providers bring you a tank full of electric
My electric outboard had a range of 40 miles, that's a lot
