The video & audio quality of the new Ring 3 device is clearly better by a bit, but not enough to warrant my changing the two Pros I have. Thanks for the great in depth review.
Great review and comparison.... I have both the Ring Doorbell 3 and Pro....and agree with your comparison that the Pro is a better doorbell. Thanks for your continued "professional reviews..." You are clearly one of the best at what your do....
Before buying the Pro, make sure you have the proper voltage to support the doorbell. I bought the Pro and learned after having it a few weeks that voltage was poor and shutting down throughout the night, so I had to return the doorbell. I would definitely get the Pro if I could find the doorbell transformer in my 50+ year old house. We believe the transformer was covered over when the garage walls were recently drywalled as part of our remodel.
There is one essential feature missing in Ring. Once it gets disconnected from wifi or electricity you do not get an alert which should be a basic or priority in any security device. Meaning if someone disconnects it without being detected or if it was wired you will never know unless you check.
You are correct about the crappy audio on the Ring Pro. Installed mine yesterday and video is good, listening to the outside is fine too but talking to people outside is terrible. Can't make out 60% of what is being said. Not sure why their "Pro" level has such bad audio...
I just purchased the Ring pro for $100. I prefer in way better than my previous ring 2. What I like about the ring pro is the longer video, and the better motion detection... if you can get it at that price I think it’s the way to go.
Came across your video today searching for info on the 3 Plus (it's currently on sale at Costco). Gotta say, I am GRATEFUL to have found this video. I may just wait alittle longer for the Pro 2. As you said, the Pro has better features but the 3+ kills it for sound quality. If I HAD to get one at the moment, I'd be the Pro. It'd be nice to have good sound but the situations that call for security, sound quality doesn't matter. Thanks for this video!
Quick Question about the Echo Show integration. I have the Echo Show 8 and have linked my Ring account with Alexa. When ever someone rings the Ring Doorbell Pro, it shows on Alexa a notification that someone is at the door, but it doesn’t automatically connect to LIVE view like yours. I have to literally have to answer it on my phone app to,connect to Live View. Is there a setting I missed somewhere? Thanks.
LifeHackster -. I’ve unlinked and re-linked it again and that seem to have solved it. Something must have been off the first time I linked it. Thanks for your thorough reviews. By the way, on different topics- I also noticed the Ring Stick Up Cam’s infrared motion sensor is not as sensitive in the day where temps above 90 VS at night when temp drops down. The range is significantly different: in day time heat, motion triggers only when I am about 9-10 feet away. At night, it triggers faster and at about 15-20 feet away. With all settings being the same-: motion Freq standard, sensitivity 85%, motion verification on. Have you noticed that with your Stick up Cam?? I get more consistent performance with my Spotlight Cam.
can you please answer this question? why get doorbell over floodlight? the floodlight gives a much better field of vision and bright light. The floodlight is also mounted much higher and out of reach of a intruder. thanks.
2 different cameras... 2 different needs..you will need a video doorbell to replace your doorbell and be able to answer your doorbell wherever you are as long as your phone is connected to the internet.. floodlight cam is for areas that need lights also..the floodlight will be too bright if you place it on top of your front door..
1) Why didn't the pro give a pre-roll when doing the motion test? 2) Can notifications go to multiple phones? 3) Can notifications go to multiple alexas? Thanks!
I have the PRO, i had the original RING Doorbell, but the pro is way better! Still waiting for face detection like the Nest Hello. Answer to your competition question is 11 on your shelf.
This is my first time coming across your channel and I am thoroughly impressed! What a thorough review! So detailed! Very much appreciated! Liked video and definitely subscribed!
Watched this video multiple times now. But stuck on which to get. I feel like the Pro is long overdue for an update and I don't want to buy one now, only for them to release a 2k resolution one or something. Thoughts?
Hopefully Pro 2 gets a 4K quality option and a option for local backups to NAS. The doorbell 3 should have came with WiFi 6 instead of 5 to improve battery and efficiency.
Local back up would be nice but I’m not holding my breath. YES 4K would be great but at this point 2k would be better then nothing. BUT most importantly I want a RING camera with WiFi 6 capability.
When I got the orbi WiFi 6 rbk852 router it switched my doorbell pro to 5GHz over the 2.4GHz and on man did it make a difference. That’s when it clicked how much internet speeds and connection play a roll on the quality and speed of these cameras even tho I’ve seen plenty of videos of people mentioning it. My wired floodlight stayed on 2.4GHz because I dont think it can go 5GHz and it’s closer to my router and the pro still responds faster and pops up without any buffering.
To take advantage of the benefits of being able to have a wired doorbell I purchased and installed the Pro after watching the doorbell 3 reviews. A few weeks later while walking my dog I was first at a garage sale. Ended up with brand new in box, never opened plug in spotlight cam and video doorbell 2 for $50. Spotlight cam went on my back patio. So what to do with the extra doorbell? Because it is battery operated and designed to be mounted 4 feet or so high I'm thinking about installing the doorbell 2 on the inside of a wood gate at the side of the house-not as a doorbell. My side yard is dark, long and narrow with motion activated solar lights along the fence. My dog likes to go to the gate to bark at passers by. I like the idea of being able to monitor the dog, using the speaker to tell her to be quiet. How does the doorbell 2 function just as a camera? Do you think its camera will work well enough to monitor a barky little dog in a long, dark side yard rather than the smaller entry way it is designed for?
Great review, but when the pro is connected to a echo show 8 device and a person rings the door bell , can you ask the echo show device to speak to the door bell , with out to touching the microphone symbol on the screen.?
Thank you for this comparison! We ordered the 3 Plus and they gave us the Pro so we needed to see which would be better.. I think I like the Pro better!
I like ring doorbell 3 plus compared to ring doorbell original since I don’t have any hardware for ring pro. I use ring 3 plus for front door and original for side door.
The Ring Pro has a nicer shape with its slimmer design. The HDR on the Ring 3 plus is amazing when it comes to daylight videos but the Ring pro is way better at night with the full colour. I hope there can be a software update that could add HDR to the Ring pro.
I just seen these on sale. Right now for prime day thinking of getting one. But I wish there was a bundle for the door and flood lights. So is the pro is way older than the doorbell 3 plus
This was an amazing video bro. I just got the 3 Plus for Black Friday deal on Amazon a couple days ago for $159.00. This video really helped. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Does the 3 or Pro come with the adaptor plate to install for people who have the 1 that do not want To drill new holes? I heard the 2 comes with an adaptor plate
I wanted to replace my ring doorbell v2. I tried the doorbell 3 plus but didn't like the fact that I have to hardwired and use the battery at the same time jus this the 3 secs preroll. So I decided to get this certified doorbell pro. Since I done the install of a few ring doorbells I tjoght this be fast. I'm handy with wires as I did replaced my old transformer with the 16v one as recommended. That was tricky but not too bad. I added the power kit to my mechanical chime, went through the install step and somehow the blue lights keeps blinking. OK. Called ring support and was told the pro actually have an internal capacitor (battery) that needed a few hours to charge up. OK. after a few hours the spinning white light i needed finally came on, great. Excited. Start the install and it stuck at the join ring network. Somehow that never came on. Call support again. The new guy was saying not enough power. I told him I got the new transformer installed already. He said , skip my old chime and installed the chime wire directly to the power kit. See pictures. I did that. we waited. And install again. Did not work on my phone app. He said try to do on another device like iPad. I did that. Same issue. He told me nothing he can do now. He will put in level 3 support and have them call me back. 4 hours later, no one call. So I decided to Uninstaller the pro and put back my trusty old Ring doorbell v2. Ready to return this garbage. Maybe when pro v2 comes out, I'll try it again.
That,s nice. From what I know the Samsung smart fridge only works with Bixby and not alexa or alexa is limited, is that true? So the ring, alexa ecosystem seems disconnected from the fridge.

How does the pre-video function at the Pro Work? Is it only visible when you watch the Video After the alert, or do you also see it at the livescreen like at the 3 Plus?
What version of Echo Show you have? Does the ring automatic video feature works in all Echo Show version, that you know? I mean, when someone presses the doorbell, showing the video automatically?
I thought the image quality on the Ring 3 actually was better in some instances than the Pro. The fact the Pro will record in color at night with other lights on is hard for the Ring 3 to overcome.
Haven't purchased any type of video doorbell yet. Still doing research and you have been very thorough so thanks. Question: is it possible to add a battery backup to the hardwired Pro version in the event of a power loss? Also, based on your tests, I think it may be be good idea to place the doorbell a bit higher so the video can get a person's face even when up close. Great review! Ps. I could be mistaken but I think I detect a Filipino accent 😊
Hey lifehackster what is the signal strength your doorbell is showing? Mine now always shows the rssi-36 even with me now having a mesh system and one being close the the door and my doorbell battery drains super quick because ring says of signal strength but my wifi strength should be better with the mesh but still ring cameras always show poor strength. Just wanted to know if you run by this same issues?
I bought a ring pro. Within a couple of hours it stopped working, wouldn’t power up. Got replaced with a new one. Within an hour of install, it list connection to wifi and wouldn’t enter set up mode. Seems to be a common problem looking at forums. Incredibly disappointing
Ring has a tendency to do automatic updates in their devices in the first few days after it gets installed..which it will go offline or some features not working yet.. I usually give it a couple of days..
Not sure if I missed it but does the pre roll record at 1080p colour when it’s wired? Seems strange that the pre roll is low quality if it’s not on battery.
Great video thank you, I brought the Pro based on your previous videos and this confirms it too. I notice your pro has a plate behind it that it's installed on? Did it come with this? Or did you buy it?
Hi, Ring new Doorbell wired will released on 24 Feb. The price 59.99. Features look similar Door bell 3 or Pro. But the price big difference. Please help to found out the reason why new door bell so cheap and what the different. Thanks
I come here for all my ring doorbell questions and reviews. I recently have been considering hard wiring a few rooms with cat8 and came to your channel for a review on the ring doorbell elite. Wanted to see what the difference is between the elite and my current pro beside what’s on paper which I know they are similar on paper. Any chance on an elite review 😬.
Hello, new to the Ring community. The review was great. It was very informative and painted a big picture. I was curious, since I’ll be buying my very first Ring doorbell. Should I get the 3 Plus or Pro? If I get the 3 Plus, I will hard wire it with the battery if it makes the connection better or has any affects on it. Thanks for the help!
I have to agree I will stick with my Ring Doorbell Pro for now. Just need that updated Pro!!! Thanks for the review!
You bet!
Yes I wish they allowed recording to a nas over WiFi 5
@@LifeHackster when will the Ring Pro be updated?

Having a porch with big shade and bright sun HDR is essential to see clearly. Pro without HDR is a deal killer. 3plus for me.
The issue we had was temperature. Ring stopped working at -20C. We had to return it. The only one that works below -20C is the Skybell.

Thank You.
Very nice comparison thank you. Are you still using the Eero mesh router at your house or have you installed something different?
Yes I still have the eeros..
Nice video what do you think of the ring door three I just purchase
nice review. which do you have of all that you have reviewed? looking for pro or eufy.
I am using and will still be using the Pro... I'll be comparing the 3 Plus with the Eufy battery doorbell soon.
I'm still looking forward to setting up my Ring Pro either this week or next week
Col Brealey I have same problem. Bought amp from amazon. Worked for a while. It is a power source problem
Julie Liberty they sent me a new power pack, same issue unfortunately
Not sure if I missed it but does the pre roll record at 1080p colour when it’s wired? Seems strange that the pre roll is low quality if it’s not on battery.
No. Even if it’s wired, the pre-roll is still low quality
Are you still using the Swann NVR system?
Yes, I do.
Very thorough and informative. Thank you sir. Liked and subbed.
thanks for the great advice now a subscriber.
Great video thank you, I brought the Pro based on your previous videos and this confirms it too.
I notice your pro has a plate behind it that it's installed on? Did it come with this? Or did you buy it?
It comes with it.
In your opinion, Eufy or Ring 3 Pro?
Nice review. Regardless of what they claim, it’s not even close to 1080P quality.
Great video!
Hi, Ring new Doorbell wired will released on 24 Feb. The price 59.99. Features look similar Door bell 3 or Pro. But the price big difference. Please help to found out the reason why new door bell so cheap and what the different. Thanks
What if ring 3 plus is wired to the wall? How is that compare to the Pro?
I come here for all my ring doorbell questions and reviews. I recently have been considering hard wiring a few rooms with cat8 and came to your channel for a review on the ring doorbell elite. Wanted to see what the difference is between the elite and my current pro beside what’s on paper which I know they are similar on paper. Any chance on an elite review 😬.
Solid review as always. Quick Question though...Can you change the tone of the doorbell?
Not the tone on the doorbell itself.but you can change the alerts tones in the app and on the chime if you have one.
@@LifeHackster Awesome thank you for the reply
Can you do a review on the EZVIZ DB1? Looks to fill in a lot of gaps other brands miss out on. Really wondering how it stands out.
Get the pro! The 3 is not an upgrade to the pro.
hello i just want to know if the Ring doorbell pro need a subscription? thank you
