I’m thinking the blackout zone is good depending on the shape of your house. If your door is on the side but facing the street it may also be able to look into a window of the house. Some old houses here in MA are built like that.
Only thing I could think of as well. Or to black out a mailbox or something that shows their street address if they share alot of the footage. Not really even sure lol
Another reviewer said that you can answer the Ring Video Doorbell 3 right on an Echo Show device and that when someone rings the doorbell, it "automatically" shows the person at the door on the Echo show device without even having to tell Alexa to show the door. Then you can talk to the person by tapping the microphone icon on the Echo Show device. I think that is a very nice feature.
Thank you Sam. I appreciate the nice words. I am glad to help with your decision. I love my Pro and only saw the 3 as a step backwards from the Pro. If you have a wired doorbell, the pro is the only way to go in my opinion. Thanks for watching.
I can see it being to limiting to the field of view and still be effective to see who is coming to the door. But it may be great for others who can block parts of the camera and still maintain the benefits of recordings. Thanks Robert for checking out the video. Have a great weekend.
I got rid of my Ring and switched to Eufy because the previous winter temperatures of just 10F made the camera useless. The batteries would die and would not charge and you need the batteries to run the camera even if wired! What?
Thanks Travis, I really appreciate you leaving a comment. Glad I could provide some information for you. Thanks for checking out the video. Means a lot from a fellow creator who’s content I always enjoy. You are crushing it. Especially over this last month. Have a great day.
One thing I have found to be an issue on my Ring DB 1st gen. is some times I miss the bulk of an event because the camera did not turn on soon enough, not a huge deal for me but I guess I'll have to see what the new devices have to offer. Thanks for the update on the RDB Craig, great video Sir.
Hello Tim, I know what you mean about that. It is annoying in my opinion. Like Diego said the doorbell pro fixes that. If it is possible to hardwire the doorbell, I definitely think the pro is the way to go. You see a pre-roll already. The doorbell caches so much video and then adds what happens right before the doorbell or motion sensor is triggered. It’s nice to see the full event. Thanks for checking out the video. Hope you are doing well.
One advantage of the Doorbell 3 is the removable battery. I would get an extra battery and keep it charged so that when the installed rechargeable battery is low, I just pop in the charged one. With the older battery powered unit when the battery is low I have to remove the unit and bring it inside to charge it which takes several hours, all that time I am without the Ring doorbell service. Thanks for great review.
Here in the UK, the whole issue of privacy is getting bigger, if your ring phone faces a neighbours home then the neighbours don't want to be recorded by you 24/7. E.g. for me, my doorbell could record their every movement in and out of their house. Hence these blackout zones are needed. We even have legal cases of neighbours suing neighbours for spying on them.
I can respect what you are saying. It is a shame, because all the footage i have seen that is effective requires a large field of view. In many cases you could lose the face of the person at the door. Thanks for sharing.
The new Ring 3 Plus vs the Ring Pro - I am looking to get one but I am not sure which one would be better for me. The doorbell would be facing the street which is about 20 feet away. I like the pre-roll but I think they both have that. It will be wired as I have an old NuTone intercome there now. I like that the Pro I can make custom motion zones where the Plus does that have. Any comments would be most appreciated. Craig Thank you for the video.
Is the black always there both live and recorded? In Sweden you are not allowed to record anything outside your own garden so it will help if you can blackout some of the picture.
It would probably still pick up on the motion and still record but with the neighbor's driveway blacked out. Privacy zones are intended to black out things like your neighbor's bedroom window etc.
Hi Craig In Denmark and probably also in most of Europe, it is not allowed to film on the street via a video camera or a doorbell. Therefore, blocking is part of the screen when you record, something you have to - the law ... but if you do, it's probably up to you ...;)
I've been setting up 2 houses, hundreds of miles apart with echos controlled devices. So far I can control devices in either house from any echo regardless of location. Love the all echo integration Now I'm looking at camera's. I got one that works ok as a camera that I can access with there app. Even Pans. Poor instructions. And it said alexa comparable. But hooking it up to alexa and anything else it looks like a monthly fee. Defiantly no where was that clear. I want what we all want. Motion activated, snapshot or video recording, locally stored files. Power wired indoor camara. Notification to phone and alexa. Remotely accessible to view, talk and listen, from phone computer or alexa. Remote access to download the captured files to phone or computer. Files should standard formats. No service fees! Any recommendations? I'll keep looking.
Awesome video thank you for sharing! I’ve never own a Ring Doorbell, will they still work if our doorbell doesn’t face the street?? I was thinking of getting the Pro II Thank you
I just purchased a Ring Doorbell 3. I'm getting all kinds of motion alerts but it's not capturing anything. There's a large tree in my front yard a few feet from my front door and the weather is very windy. Could those heavy winds blowing the tree branches cause motion alerts?
I don't have a Ring doorbell and I want to get one. So is the only difference between the 3 and the Plus the pre roll? Is the a side by side comparison I can read?
1 question that im having trouble finding is, ( How many phones can you have the Ring 3 plus send the live feed too, or can you only have 1 phone that it send's too ? ). Thanks.
I'm getting notifications all the time. I'll have Amazon stand right in front of my porch and take a picture and it doesn't go off and then also get 15 notifications for car's going down the street even though I have the zone settings halfway up the driveway. Even at that when we're coming home or leaving we typically only get a video that shows someone about to walk into the house or have just walked out of the house. I'm pretty aggravated with it right now.
It sounds like you are having a similar experience to what I had with the original battery powered versions. If you are using a battery powered doorbell, that would explain the delays in capturing video. When it’s hardwired, the doorbell is always buffering video. Sorry to hear you are getting false alarms.
I have had great luck with my 1st gen hardwired video doorbell pro. You can get it as low as $109 when on sale for refurbished or $139 off sale and $159 new. I have been using mine for 4 years and have saw no reason to change. It always buffers 5 seconds so you don’t miss what causes an alert.
@@CraigsTechTalk seems like whatever model you have works better with hardwired. Didn't even have any wires to connect to at my door. Is the 3plus the newest model out? Have you ever tried any of the other doorbell cams?
My brother was able to scare off a would be burglar with the ring doorbell. A neighbor's ring also captured a video the the suspect form a different angle.
Thank you Wyatt. I am glad that you enjoyed the video and it was helpful for you. The Pro is great. I hope you enjoy it and it works well for you. Thanks for watching. Have a great day.
Hi Craig, I am a UK viewer of your video, which I found very helpful. I was about to purchase the "Plus" doorbell, but your video has made me hesitate. You obviously have a lot of knowledge about Ring doorbells, and seem to favour the "Pro" version. I have a main road approx 30 feet from a possible doorbell. Would the Pro be best to prevent continuous triggering, or what Ring variant would you recommend. I am now seriously considering the Pro version, depending on your response. Many thanks.
Personally I would go for one of the pros Versions. Either the original like mine or the newer one. The hardwired with a 5 second video buffer is the way to go. You see all of the motion when it happens. Instead of someone practically at the door or waking away by the time the camera starts recording. The pro helped me with dialing in my zones so cars and people would not set it off. The zones are very accurate. First ring went off all the time with road and people traffic.

If I didn’t have the channel I would not necessarily buy it. It looks like the pro is still going to be the stronger choice. I think Carl is right about this being about trying to get the regular video doorbell users to upgrade. I think this also provides a good solution for those that want a battery powered doorbell. That is the only thing really missing from the Pro 2.
Privacy mode is for apartments mainly, because in a building there is many apartments and is forbidden to record your neighbor door. So you black out it.
I get what you saying. But half the benefit of these devices are being able to review recordings. Especially if you have a package stolen or your house broken into. If you blackout the apartment door across from you, you are most likely going to be blacking out the person you want to see. Just picture a full person standing outside your door and see if they would be blacked out in a video if you blacked out the door across from you. I have thought about blacking out the very people I would want to see at my door when I made my initial comments about the blackout. I can see people blacking out things and then checking in to see who was at the front door only to find they can’t see the person because they blacked out that area.
@@CraigsTechTalk I agree with you, privacy masking a camera need to use it wisely so at the end you dont black out what you want to see in front of your door. In apartments is forbidden to use video doorbell if you dont have permission from your neighbor or your camera have privacy masking to black out his door. We use privacy masking for so long also In surveillance cameras, and lately in pir cameras.
That might be a good reason. I just see that if someone walks in front of the doorbell the end up being blacked out. For my house any blacked out areas would compromise the security benefits of the doorbell. It would give potential thieves an area where they would be blacked out.
I can see that, but it could be bad for reviewing your own missed alerts. Personally it would make my recordings useless. But others experience could be different.

I have the original Ring on a masonry townhouse. The picture is pixelated and it's slow to load. Ring claims that the Wifi is better on the newer versions. Is this really true? My friend has the Nest Doorbell and it seemed lightyears better than the Ring in terms of picture quality. The only reason I want to stick with the Ring product line is that I have a bunch of chimes which wouldn't be compatible.
The nest doorbell is definitely a head of the first generation. I have not used the nest doorbell but have heard great things. You definitely need a strong signal to connect to ring doorbells quickly. The new doorbells can do 5ghz which is faster. But 5ghz doesn’t travel as far. So you still need a strong signal at the doorbell. I don’t think the masonry helps the signal. I don’t know for sure if it will help. The good thing is that you can order it and return it if it doesn’t work better. In your case I would buy it and get it all setup before mounting it. Since it is battery powered you can just use the batteries and run the setup process. If it connects quick and connects quick you then mount it. The new one if 1080p and the original is 720p, so the new one should look better. I hope if you get one it works better for you. I know my video doorbell pro is so much better than my original ring doorbell.
Great information. Again, thank you for what you do for us. One thing I would like to learn. At my front door I have a Blink Camera . How can I connect this with my Echo Show. This Vietnam Veteran thanks you.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
If you have an Alexa enabled gate unlatch, you could only use the doorbell motion sensor to trigger a routine. Unfortunately there is no way to use the doorbell press or answering to trigger a gate unlatch.
Yea it does that on your phone but the ring doorbells will also ring your actual doorbell. Say maybe you don’t have a actual door bell the Chime can replace that. Secondly if your in the garage you could have a chime in there knowing when your dorebwlk is pressed, but now and days people take there phones everywhere. But that’s what the chime is. And the pro version has a built in WiFi extended.
Diego Alvarez I don’t have anything with ring . Like most people my phone is never more than a meter away from me 24hrs a day. I have tp link WiFi extenders in the house already.
Before I listen to the rest, right off - no, the Ring 3 is not as good as the Pro and for those of you who use a computer screen to check live view - the newer doorbells do not work with Windows 10. The older models still work with Windows 10 - sort of, but the only feature that works well is live view. Okay. Now I'll listen to the video. 😀 By the way, if you use your computer screen for live view, the time I get connected after asking for live view is 2 seconds, the same as Rapid Ring on my phone. Like the computer screen view because of the size and detail that can be seen. On the other hand, Echo Show takes 6-7 seconds.
The reason to black out filming areas: in Amsterdam its prohibited to film persons without their written consent, on public ground (the new privacy law). Even on own grown its punishable to film a burgler. I would do it anyway because then I get his address. Please show us the possibillity to black out areas. I live in the centre, directly at public walkway. Martin
That makes sense based on local laws. They haven’t gone that far yet where I am. The fact you can’t film a burglar is crazy. I ended up cancelling my order and will not be able to do a follow up on this. I could not justify buying it at this time to have to sell it once I reviewed it. It is a step backwards from the Ring Video Doorbell Pro.
Same here but I was really hoping there would be enough new features to justify the upgrade! I’m hoping 🤞🏽 that we’re looking/comparing the wrong ring camera. That this new one is a comparison to the ring 2 and nit a comparison to the ring pro, and that later in will get a camera that is more of an upgrade compared to the ring pro 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Please don't take this as a bad comment. 250 bucks plus tax seem like a lot for a door bell. I just want to not be in the bed room and have to walk all the way to the door just to see a salesman. But that is just me. You spoke about distance and black out and all the work it seems that has to be done just to get like you like. What did you do before all of this lol. Anyway spend 50 bucks and no work and you don't have to go to the door to see a salesman. BTW we all love gadgets and me most of all bur I will pass on this one. Great info btw and thanks for all of your work on this and a lot of other things:).
I think you think I was making a bad comment but really I was not. Anyway you are right and I do that often but I do like to see who is there and I hate to peek:)
I think the pro is definitely better with the customizable zones and the continuous power that allows for a small buffer to be maintained. That way it can show you the moment a few seconds before the motion was triggered. The new version is only good for those who can’t hardwire their doorbell. If you have power to your doorbell, i would spend $20 more that the 3+ and get a pro.
Hello Maegan, I am sorry I don’t. I have not tried them yet. I have heard good things. They are an Amazon company too, but I think Amazon is good about letting these different companies operate independently. I have not heard anything bad about them from anyone. I also have not read any privacy issues with them.

Thank you for the insight.
Great information. Again, thank you for what you do for us. One thing I would like to learn. At my front door I have a Blink Camera . How can I connect this with my Echo Show. This Vietnam Veteran thanks you.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hey, can you combine a Ring system with a gate unlatch function ?
If you have an Alexa enabled gate unlatch, you could only use the doorbell motion sensor to trigger a routine. Unfortunately there is no way to use the doorbell press or answering to trigger a gate unlatch.
Alexa and Ring should look into adding this functionality. I need this too, and I'm sure there are many others who do.
Why would you need a chime? I thought the whole point of these was that it showed up on your phone .
Also if you have the alarm with ring it will also chime when any of the sensors go off.
Diego Alvarez I don’t have anything with ring . Like most people my phone is never more than a meter away from me 24hrs a day. I have tp link WiFi extenders in the house already.
Scotia Jinker yea it’s not the best accessory and there’s better options for what it is. Just letting you know what it did.
Diego Alvarez no problem, much appreciated
I'm still using the 1st gen... works just fine
That’s great that the 1st gen is still working well for you. Thanks for watching.
My first gen from 2016 finally broke. Hardware issue. Labor Day sale plus a 35% coupon from RING only cost me a net of $117 for 3-plus
Yea i upgraded. Got 2 ring 3s and a spotlight cam. And a wireless Nightowl DVR setup. And a bunch of guns lol
I hope you’re enjoying your new upgrades. Sounds like you have the monitoring and protection down.
in the UK the black out feature is good for next door neighbours privacy
Lol at 3:42 🤣🤣
1:53 address # for neighbors social sharing so people don’t know your address
The privacy zone would be helpful to block out motion of my neighbour's wife running around naked!!
Sounds like a good use right there. Thanks for sharing another good reason to have blocked parts of the recordings.
If you have slow internet, do not buy the HD model.
By the way, if you use your computer screen for live view, the time I get connected after asking for live view is 2 seconds, the same as Rapid Ring on my phone.
Thanks.
Thank you.
I’ll stick with my pro...👍🏼
Same here but I was really hoping there would be enough new features to justify the upgrade! I’m hoping 🤞🏽 that we’re looking/comparing the wrong ring camera. That this new one is a comparison to the ring 2 and nit a comparison to the ring pro, and that later in will get a camera that is more of an upgrade compared to the ring pro 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Eh
Nicely done
Thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
You could just not answer the door for exactly $0.
I think you think I was making a bad comment but really I was not. Anyway you are right and I do that often but I do like to see who is there and I hate to peek:)
So basically it’s not better than pro.. good to know since I am about go get a doorbell real soon.
Do you know anything about Blink cameras?
Hello Maegan, I am sorry I don’t. I have not tried them yet. I have heard good things. They are an Amazon company too, but I think Amazon is good about letting these different companies operate independently. I have not heard anything bad about them from anyone. I also have not read any privacy issues with them.
@@CraigsTechTalk thank you for replying
Blink cameras weren’t so good. Mine is taking a long time to be able to live view.
I’m your 1k like
Thank you. I appreciate that. I am surprised that the video has made it to 1000 likes. Thanks again.
not really a huge upgrade from ring 2 so no ill stick with ring 2 ... i want to no what the good neigbours is all about it cost me £25 and i didnt subscribe it seemed to just happen 🤬
Hi Craig have you heard about eRing Video Doorbell
Hello Wendy, no i have not heard about the eRing doorbell. I wasn’t finding it when I checked. Thanks for watching.
No point to buy a chime... All you need a an Amazon echo.. same price, way more uses.
Unless your WiFi sucks that bad.
Can you talk to them and here through Alexa? Thanks!!
Yes you can answer the ring and speak from through and echo. Here is a video I did on the integration of Ring Doorbell and Echos. ruclips.net/video/kBc6Jk1Etuk/видео.html Thanks for watching.
I’m hoping this is Rings new version of the doorbell 2 and not the pro. I’m hoping will get an upgraded version to the pro soon 🤞🏽
It would be cool to see a pro upgrade. This definitely seems like a doorbell 2 upgrade. It would be a step back for the pro.
Buggy and glitchy! Drops and reconnects to wifi mysteriously. Stay Away!
I do love hearing you say my name so often! :-)
Now just changed ur first name to chime
@@kxp.1496 HAHA! Funny... I contacted Jaime Siminoff (the inventor of Ring) shortly after I received my 1st one... and he said I really should be working for the company. I replied that I really should have copyrighted and patented my last name! :-)
M A G I C
There still not waterproof no use at all in UK as they just stoo working when rains all the time until they make it waterproof fully no use get wifi ones better and waterproof 👍 shame they dont.
