Every great job that is respected by society is only respected because it requires a lot of skill and pays a lot e.g. doctor, lawyer, software dev, aircraft pilot. But in terms of doing it it's shit. Aircraft pilots have to deal with a shitload of checkups for which they bear tremendous responsibility, work in long ass shifts, spending days off away from home. Software develepers spend more than half of their work time with their hands on their forehead tryIng to figure out this annoying little bug that breaks everything and it's been two days now without any progress and deadline is tomorrow and your shit isn't working and all because the stupid ass client requested an unreasonable edit because they couldn't figure out your UI that is intuitive to everyone and their child except for your dumb fucking client. 20% time spent coding, 80% time spent being frustrated. Lawyers have to defend bullshit cases, criminals, but most of the time some boring corporate bureaucracy crap that was handled incorrectly because it's so damn boring they'd rather pay a lawyer deal with this shit later than deal with it themselves. You have to wear a boring black suit, speak boring fucking language, deal with boring cases and study boring fucking papers. Doctors deal with some seriously repulsive shit, undersleep and overtime every other day. They have to tell people the future development of their disease that they otherwise assume to be harmless. They have to be responsible for incorrect diagnoses and so forth. Also, besides the white coat every other item on the doctor's uniform looks fucking stupid. There is a shitload of not very well-known professions out there that don't pay too much, but still require just enough skill for you to be proud about what you do and have infinitely less bullshit to deal with on a daily basis. Find yourself a job that you'll be zen about doing, one that won't make you feel like jumping off a cliff on a monday morning. They are out there, they are just very much something you didn't even know existed or could have thought of. Make an effort to find one like that, it'll pay off. As a bonus, they are a great conversation piece that you know is interesting to listen about. So every time you are asked "so, uh, what do you do?" you'll light up because you get to talk about it instead of being inconvenienced about the question.
