I’ve been binging a lot of Al’s comedies, and this man has a genuine respect for the elder generation and for the Second World War. I have a lot of respect for him because of this.
Al has a degree in history and is well versed in WW2 history. He has made documentaries on WW2 and attends anniversaries. I saw him at Pegasus Bridge in Normandy at the time of the 65th anniversary. One of his relatives was killed in the retreat to Dunkirk in 1940, his father served in the post war army with many WW2 veterans. Like many his age ( myself included) we grew up on Commando books, Warlord, Victor and Battle comics and black and white 1950s war films like Dunkirk, Colditz Story Ice Cold in Alex, Cruel Sea etc and the colour 1960s & 70s offerings like Where Eagles Dare, Guns of Navarone, Longest Day and Bridge to Far.
That bird next to Dave with the tats looked like she had the right hump, and her mate didn't look like she was exactly enjoying herself either. Perhaps they thought that they were booked for the ice hockey player Al Murray.
Just watched this video and thought exactly the same as you. Thank fuck I'm not the only one who thinks like this! you're right she had the right (h)ump. If you go to one of al Murray's shows AND you don't want to be the center of attention do not, repeat, do not get a seat in the front row. In fact make that the first four rows. Love the name by the way...
The irony of this is amazing - not really The Pub Landlord's crowd. Al Murray himself has more in common with them. But his ability to control and win them over anyway.
Jim Foyle yeh I know. His character is an exaggeration of all those views but you can’t deny he’s entertaining n I’m not a big fan of the majority of mainstream comedians these days so I love going back and watching his stuff (ps I’m not a racist)

It's not Northern, definitely not haha. You wouldn't be able to understand him otherwise. The accent I can closest relate it to is Cockney, but not quite a London accent. I can't really tell. When you live up north most southerners sound similar. There is so many accents in this country It's hard to pinpoint where someone is from. You can drive 10 minutes down the road and not understand a fucking word someone is saying, it's like another language.
I had a bucket list which was quite detailed and built up over the years. I've scrapped all of it and replaced it with: "Go back in time and slap the aluminium cow in the front row of this gig" Like if you want to come with me.
