    Her background in competitive dance and ballet just gives her a tremendous foundation for throwing discus. Balance, kinesthetic awareness, timing. She's got it all.

    I agree about this throw. So balanced, so fast. The double spin reverse is so cool too.

    I help officiate discus a few meets when Valerie was a senior then an athlete at Stanford. Her skills were there just need more refinement and here she is today😊

    Great analysis. At about 2:20 you wonder whether her left arm should be extended more. I would submit that keeping the elbow flexed (nearer her body) would allow her to spin a bit faster, thus increasing her launch velocity that much more. Try spinning on a spinning stool with your legs extended, then bring them in. The speed of your spin increases.

    Thank you for the video and the slow motion of the champion throw.

    She is absolutely beautiful and her technique is incredible to watch...and yes I admit it she is very pleasant to watch. She should be endorsing every product possible for women athletes.

    With the speed she generates, if she could block harder, can you imagine? That is the only area I would try to improve. Her rip is better than anyone elses. Watching her in the rain at NCAAs was astonishing!!!

    She spins so well and increases her rotational speed because she is a life-time ballet dancer----just got to be a bit too much for the guys to lift! Awesome technique, strength, and coordination!

    What muscles should you do isolated training on for discus?

      It’s a full body movement, gotta train full body. Bench press, squats, and Olympic lifts are great bases to start at

      Our discus record setter at my high-school was excellent at power clean. Abs/ core strength are super important as well.

      Too many people conflate body building isolation exercises with athletic ability. True athletic performances are helped by doing full body compound exercises. Even squats and deadlifts, while done, are insufficient for athletic performances.

    How do you think she is keeping the bend in her right leg? Is she pulling the hamstring back, quad back, knee back, flexing the heel towards her glute? What are your thoughts on what she’s contracting to keep the bend in the right leg?

    Should be 2nd best of all time behind Perkovic. The rest all set in 80s and early 90s, most from the Eastern/Communist block, obviously are highly suspicious.

      '70s through early 90's records are virtually all steroid influenced. What records, other than track and field, remain on the books since that time?

    "Especially for a female" WTF?

  • @malikakirkling4525
    @malikakirkling4525 2 года назад +4

    Great analytical footage and commentary but the comment, “Especially for a female this is the best technical throw…” Why is the gendered comparison between male and female technicians necessary? Why not just say this is one of the best technical models period? Are there anatomical differences between male and female throwers that would make this technique non-viable for a male?

    She can't break the men's record. The senior woman's discus is much lighter.
