      @@tomasbajarunas6416 Not just about strength of wind. It's clear conditions were very favourable - look at Perez's huge throw. This is what it took to produce the WR: an amazing talent who was in spectacular form who caught a great day to be throwing with ideal wind. Finally the record has fallen and I'm glad it has because frankly I don't trust the records of that era, whereas I'm quite confident that Mykolas is an honest athlete. On the women's side, it's quite possible that Perez now owns the "real" WR. I wonder if Mykolas is the sort of talent who, given a few more years to reach his peak, could throw 74+ in stadium conditions.

If he can put the left foot down on a slight diagonal from where the right lands in the centre of the circle to open up his hips up on delivery, he could add at least a couple of metres to the record.

    What's sad about this is It's a 38yr old record that's been broken which looked like it was at a small get together college crowd, no commentary, no seeing it fly through the air, no landing footage, nothing,...just a rear view of him launching it, a WR like this deserved better footage and a large crowd. why didn't they at least have a side view camera covering the 65m-75m area so it could be seen landing, such a shame a near 40yr old WR was beaten like this,...just launched and then told the distance, I hope a much more proffesional event is the setting for a new WR for the hammer, at least the shot put WR had far better coverage.

    What a great throw! Good heavens, he got it out there!
    It worried me when ring judge waited to clear 4-5 seconds after looking away... Mykolas got out of the ring in a hurry, pretty sure he stepped out right as the discus hit the ground from what I could see at the back angle at 11:45, I didn't even notice until the side shot 12:08 , but yeah, I've seen people DQ'd for the same thing; and for the record I though it was stupid call then too, but he was obviously in control but backwards and quickly will bother some judges.
    It is *2024* where a swimmer set a NCAA record and was literally DQ'd for celebrating with a teammate after a race was over, but not everyone had touched the wall... the world is chalk full of Karens and rules lawyers; and technicalities are bureaucrats playground.

    • @bjf5027
      @bjf5027 8 месяцев назад +3

      The point of that rule is so that they are in control at the end of the throw. No experienced official would consider Alekna's behavior a foul. He threw the throw, stopped, then exited the ring. The idea behind the rule is more important than the rule itself since its literally the reason behind the rule.

    I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this record being ratified. I think it calls into question just how ergogenic wind can be at times, and that the notion of "wind-chasing" could potentially warrant a revisit to the aerodynamics of how the discus works in high winds (why there has never been a rule set in stone confuses me to this day tbh). 9/10 from the top 10 men in this competition PR'd, and 7/10 from the top 10 women PR'd as well; almost all of which were like 4-5% or higher. That's not just a meet where things like atmosphere and "hype" can be a reason; these are statistical anomalies that were the direct result of some sort of nature-related aid to the point where it artificially created higher marks.

    The throw was wind aided. Can't you hear it blowing? It's a quarterly wind for right handed throwers. The wind lifts the disc. In dead air he would not throw as far. So let's stop having wind aided sprints!

''who dominates the sprints and who dominates the throws?'' oh please don't tell me your gonna go with ''wind limits existing in sprints but not in throws is racist'' they were there in the gdr days too.How is the fact that white people dominate throws[even though compared to sprinting there is absolutely much more diversity of color at the highest levels],is relevant to this conversation,other than what i think your suggesting ? s discus world record was achieved in pretty much the same conditions,theres no reason for there to be asterisks to this.he's 21,he has plenty of time to have crazy throws in stadiums.
