    Hi! So I've been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis a few months ago, and its been really hard as an extremely active person. It's a long story, but about a year ago I had a serious fall off my horse. The pain in my back was insane but the doctor said it was just my muscles that were tight, and so i started walking and exercising after a week. A month or two later the pain started to come back, but every specialist (physio, chiropractor, orthopeed, osteopeed, manual therapist) that I went to told me there was something different going on. Until we decided to make an x-ray; we were told I had a fracture in my back L5 (so like broken) and I had to rest. 6 Months later I went back to see if it had gotten beter (even though the pain was the same/worse) and they diagnosed me with spondylolisthesis. Now Im doing exercises like this to make it hurt less and strengthen the muscles around it, but I was wondering if I could go back to my normal work out routine again or if that would mess things up? I used to train abs/core, inner thighs, glutes and arms . When I was told my back was broken I stopped everything except arms because I thought it would make the situation worse, which led to a loss of all my progress. Now that I know what it is, I want to start again, but my question is if I can do exercises like Russian twists, toe touches, bicycles, plank, toe taps, reverse plank, plank dips, fire hydrant etc... without affecting or making anything worse..?

      I have grade 2-3 spondylolisthesis in the L5-S1 area, it’s been aggravated due to a car accident and has been affecting me for over a year now - I’m also wondering if I can possibly lessen pain with certain exercises, though as of right now, I can barely stand or walk with this pain.
      Hoping you find a solution soon 🙏🏻

    After After 22 years, I only recently discovered that I have this condition. I have never had back problems, but last year I strained a muscle in that area at the gym, resulting in Sciatica. I've been in pain for a year+ and it's completely ruined my life. I'm now just waiting for injections, but if it doesn't work, surgery.
    What it says on my letter from the spinal specialist.

    Mine goes out with forward bending. I have had this condition since in my 20's, I'm now 71, and surgery would have been better at a younger age. Problem is no one ever suggested anything other than cortisone spinal injections. We recently moved to Kaiser healthcare, and here we go again, we can give you an injection. The problem is they never helped anything, and it took since June to go through the red tape to get a December 20 appointment. Again I told them, this has never worked before. Now as I got older it is far more difficult to deal with the condition as holding any kind of muscle is so much harder. Appreciate the video, I will do my best. Thank you. Oddly enough, since young I tried hanging by my arms, and later using an inversion table, trying to relax the lumbar and letting it stretch, every time I was able to release and stretch it, the pain was unbearable, much like when the vertebra slides out of position.

      Hi there, thank you for your comment and for sharing your situation with us! I'd like to share that the Core Balance Training program does address the root cause of spondylolisthesis with the goal of providing relief and preventing further spinal degeneration, so you won't have to rely on injections. Dr. Ryan actually has spondylolisthesis grade 1-2 and designed the program to address this condition specifically.
      We would love to offer you the opportunity to see if this could help you by providing you with the link to our free 7-day trial. It is the first week of our program, and many students report significant relief within that time period. Here is the link if you're interested: www.corebalancetraining.com/program. We do believe that our program creates an optimal environment for the body to heal, and medical "miracles" do happen on occasion. I don't understand the pubic bone engagement/connection. My X-rays just showed my L-5 bone is out of alignment. The first chiropractor wanted $7000 for one year of treatments, and the second Doctor talked to me and gave me exercises, like the one you showed, said it's the best, and after five years of NO exercise, I'm weak. Two injuries, the second one lifting a 50lb suitcase and twisting, we thought it was my sacral iliac, and maybe it was and got semi-fixed, although this week feels bruised. Maybe the first injury is spondylostheses? Spelling. I returned from overseas work with back pain and super arched my back to make the pain go away, it did, but other things happened. I'll try the exercises again right now. Start a habit.

    I had my entire T-spine fused for scoliosis way back in 1972 and have Harrington rods. I also have a spondylolisthesis from carrying lots of heavy things, including sleeping children, groceries up the stairs, etc. My arms and legs are strong and I always carried more weight than most non-athletic women would or could. Don't know what degree my spondy is as I haven't seen a doctor in years. It's L4 & L5. If I stand too long, the pain can be sudden and alarming. If I roll onto my stomach in my sleep I can't get out of bed in the morning without a lot of difficulty and pain, so I sleep on the couch where there's no room to roll.

    I have Spondy at L5 S1, grade 1-2, due to a bilateral Pars defect. My consultant has suggested an MIS TLIF. Now, obviously, i have researched his condition a lot recently and im puzzled as to why reasonably young people, im 51, are trying to avoid surgery. Surely surgery is inevitable at some point and the longer people leave it, recovery from surgery, along with any issues old ages has sprung on them in the meantime, will be harder and longer!

    • @CoreBalance
      @CoreBalance  Год назад +4

      Hi Phil, appreciate you sharing your thoughts! I'd like to note that while surgery has its place, it might fully address the root causes behind spondy. Addressing the underlying causes directly could be a helpful way to manage and potentially ease the condition over time. Many individuals prefer exploring less invasive treatments before considering surgery, making it more of a last resort in most cases. Thank you for watching!

      Having an L5/S1 trauma related break for 27 years; I'd say that unless you've an incredible set of those wrap around core muscles, I wouldn't do it except perhaps the initial lift while bent forward part and with a lightweight and paused between reps, I'd avoid the full overhead movement unless it was very light weight...
      Why? Because it's bending back the spine and thrusting forwards that can cause the condition, perhaps even a fracture, in the first instance...
      American footballers facing off and with arched backs then push against the opposing player is a well recognised cause...

      Hi Earl, thank you for sharing your situation with us; it's very helpful in understanding what's going on.
      I'd recommend trying out our free 7-day trial that contains our program's most foundational movements and concepts that we use throughout the entire program. The movements from the first module included in the free trial are very gentle and provide significant relief to the lumbar spine. The program begins with simple therapeutic exercises aimed at developing core awareness, which can help soothe the stressful area.
      The gentle movements in our program can help manage the symptoms of pars defect, such as pain and muscle weakness, and possibly introduce light strengthening of muscles that may have gotten weaker as a result of the defect.
      The program primarily focuses on addressing lower back pain, including conditions like spondylitis. Dr. Ryan, the creator of the program, personally experienced joint pain and successfully used the movements taught in the program to alleviate pressure on his spine.
      The course is also very gentle and effective for stabilizing past spinal fusions. If your surgery was more than 3 months ago, it should be safe to participate in all the movements in our course.
      If you're interested, you can learn more about the program and free trial here: www.corebalancetraining.com/program. We'd love to help!

      @CoreBalance  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Amy, thank you for your comment! This is a great question, and it is Dr. Ryan's philosophy that no matter the current circumstances, by listening to your body's communication and working below your current tolerance level for flexion, you can successfully perform the movements such as the bridge by gradually and incrementally training the body to encourage more movement above and below the lumbar spine. 😊

I sat for 23 yrs doing customer service; however, I exercised alot at gyms, at home, aerobics, etc. Here I am at 72 one day woke up and very painful to stand. This went on 4 yrs. I tried massage, different chiros, shock wave (was aweful) I also have tight calfs and tingling feet. I dont know how to properly work on my core. My chiro has me on a wobble chair. I always still hurt. I was a very active person and I am at a loss. Please tell me what I can do. I take no meds, I dont do vaccines. I am about 20 lbs overweight as I couldnt do much due to it hurts when I walk still. The neurosurgeon told me I have a spine much younger than my age except for L4 spondy. I will never consider surgery. I heard nightmares about it and then have to get more surgery. Never a word in my vocabulary. Im Grade 2.

      Thank you for your question! We believe that connecting with your deep core can help strengthen your core muscles, which is what our program is all about. The program engages the deeper core muscles that provide greater stability and support to your spine and pelvis. Deep core muscles are closer to the spine and have a direct impact on spinal alignment and stability.
      So, while abdominal bracing (sucking in your stomach) provides some core strength, it primarily targets the outer muscles, such as the rectus abdominis and obliques, which are more superficial and focused on flexing the torso. It doesn't provide the same level of core strength as engaging the deep core muscles.

      Hi there, thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your situation with us! Dr. Ryan believes that injections are meant to be short-term relief solutions. Instead, he suggests addressing the root cause of your spondylosis, which often involves muscle imbalance in the body.
      Addressing muscle imbalances in the body can be beneficial for individuals with spondylosis by helping to stabilize the spine, improve posture, and reduce the stress on the affected vertebrae. Strengthening the core muscles helps provide stability to the spine. A strong core can help distribute the load more evenly across the spine, reducing excessive stress on the vertebrae and supporting proper alignment. Addressing muscle imbalances can aid in correcting poor posture habits, which may contribute to the development or exacerbation of spondylosis. Proper posture reduces the strain on the spine and helps maintain a more neutral alignment.
      By moving in a healthier way and restoring balance to the muscles in the body, this provides the most optimal environment for potential healing, and we do teach this all in the program.
      I recommend taking advantage of our free 7-day trial, as many of our students report significant relief during this period. It's also a great opportunity to experience the program and see if it's a good fit for you. You can learn more about the free trial here: www.corebalancetraining.com/program.

      Hi Teresa, thank you so much for your comment! I understand how challenging it must be to experience lower back pain when driving all day, especially after dedicating so many years to your job. I'd like to share a video with you that Dr. Ryan put together, focusing on being proactive about preventing lower back pain and stiffness from excessive driving. It includes tips for while you're driving, as well as when you're not driving, and highlights the power of breathing techniques. You can watch it here: ruclips.net/video/9Ngrga1Ol9A/видео.html. I think you'd find it very helpful and informative!
