I'm here because of Ruby Leigh's performance on the Voice. Linda's voice and this song just touches the soul ❤❤❤ AND Ruby sounds sooo much like Linda on this song, I love both, pure perfection. Nov 2023
This song really speaks to me. The song perfectly sums up what it’s like to not experience a reciprocated love in your life; everyone gives you good advice, everyone encourages you and everyone tells you it will all be worth it when it finally arrives. But you sit there, night after night, alone. And you wonder what’s going wrong. You start thinking it’s just not meant to be for you, and maybe you come to accept it eventually. It’s just who you are. You’re not someone who’s going to love someone and be loved back. And then one day someone falls into a hole right outside where you live, and you help them out, and they fill the hole in your heart. And it’s all okay.
That voice, with such clarity and emotion, was a wondrous thing. You’re so right, much of the music out there now is synthesized to death with screaming singers...
I feel the same. Linda just stood there and sang and she sang the heart out of every song she sang. I so miss her. Today we have performers, divas. Even if you can admire a diva like Mariah Cary, she just contorts her voice. There is no emotion.
It’s crazy how a tv show, or movie can breathe new life into an old song. There’s a good chance the younger generation had no idea who Linda Ronstadt was until they watched The Last of Us.

@@fasterpussycatkillkill9650 Funny thing is I am familiar with Stone Poneys and some of her other stuff, but never got to this. I’ve started with album one and been working my way through all day. Amazing.
Back then auto-tune was in the singer's throat. She had a truly rare and special voice AND dynamic self-belief. Watch a documentary about her for deeper appreciation. Rare talent indeed.
I think the critics liked her - I remember she got accolades for the album of standards and also when she was in Pirates of Penzance. They thought she had a voice that was better than the kind of music she usually sang (which is snotty, but whatever...!)

I love her and I can sing a few of her songs. I am not nearly as good as her. But I sing them when asked. I get the best feedback on You’re No Good.
@@shaywestlake9709 That you sing well enough to perform before an audience says a lot good about your talent. 'You're No Good' is an emotional & pain filled song so if your interpretation brings praise, then you can sing with more than just pipes.
Lake Michigan,
That is so nice of you to say. I won a vocal contest with that song. Well I sang others but sang that in the finals. I basically try to do Linda’s version. I am just blessed I can sing. Thank you so much for the compliment. I do think it has some soul in it. My Mom raised me on Linda Ronstadt. I was born in 1970 so I love all of her music. I was just late for so much. But better late than never.
@@shaywestlake9709 I saw Linda Ronstadt perform in 1979 and was captivated. That marvelous voice and excellent stage presence in such an attractive personality. She was the real deal, not just a singer but an accomplished musician. I miss her voice, just as you must.
Yes, it's such a blessing to be able to sing well. Competition winners always have the chops, you know, so you've gotta be very good. Congratulations.
I can sing a little, do it every day, and am grateful I can sing at all.
The Ballad of Bill & Frank 🍓
asked my dad about this, he said it was huge & all over the radio when he was growing up; he's 65
Your Dad is So Right On and I’m 68 Years Old Now
Dad is correct. Different Drum was huge but when this one came out I cried. I must've been 10 or 11. Yeah, it touched me that much, and still does.
Years have passed since I last heard this. There is so much loss as you move through life. Melodies like this make my throat ache.
1970: “I really enjoy it, it's a very nice song.”
2023: “RIP Bill and Frank.”
This was the perfect song for that episode. I loved their bad singing, it was beautiful. And I have always loved this beautiful song. I hope Linda is aware of all this and getting some joy from it.
I liked Frank’s singing
At 75. Still love this girl. What a beautiful voice
I'm 72 and she still pulls the tears out of me.
72 year Hippie in California in 2021 still loving hearing Linda...escapism

Me too, 72, only in I am in Rhode Island.
A 68 yr old hippie chick in LA
Time for you to escape from hell and go to normal. Nothing to fear from Covid.
@@mikewhite9818 Says none of the 5.68 million people who have died from it in a two-year span.
@@royrowland5763 If you know about highly effective treatments then nothing to fear. I vertmetin and HC Q are more effective than the poison pushed by leftists. But there is much to fear about California. It is all ready ruined. Escape is the only alternative.
Never thought a LGBT love story of Bill and Frank could be so heart-wrenching and emotional. The Last of Us is really special. 🥹❤️
This episode ❤
Ruled!
RIP Bill and Frank
In love with Linda since I was 17 (50 years ago). And I think I've loved you for a long, long time 💜
"And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long long time."
And, after all these many years, I still do.
Linda Ronstadt has one incredible voice. A "Long Long Time" has been one of my favorite songs for over 50 years.
Unrequited love... is so sad and no other song or performer expressed it so well.
I adore the very ground that Linda walks on and this song is pure Lindaness, she owns the song, but then I listened to Melanie Safka`s cover and her take on it is just stunning in it`t own way. Listen to both of them and you will love them both deeply as I do
Anthony Rangel I am going to be a stubborn bastard and not listen to the other version. This one works for me.
una mckillen
It is not even close to this one.
Anthony Rangel I did not know Melanie sang this song. She indeed had a great voice too -- very underrated. What ever happened to her?
David S. she's still around,i believe. saw her perfoming on a youtube video that i don't think was from too long ago.
Rest in peace Bill and Frank, love from the UAE
No other voice can compare. She is just the greatest singer of all time.
Glenn Frey and Don Henley said Linda is the best female singer. I definitely agree
Glen played on quite a few of her albums.Dont you love music trivia?
the eagles were her backup bsnd st one time
She's definitely in the top 10. I love the soulful tone in her voice. Ms Ronstadt surely put her heart into her art.
I've heard Linda has perfect pitch - I believe it.
There are far too many excellent female singers, but I suppose everyone is entitled to have their favorite.
Whoever thought to put this song in The Last of Us is a genious. Not only has it withstood the test of time but I'm happy to see so many young(er) people enjoying this song. I just hope they will look a little deeper into Linda Ronstadt's tremendous catalog of music.
What an incredible 52 year old song. I wouldn't have heard about it if I hadn't been following this US zombie drama. This song was played in episode 3. I would have dismissed this kind of song in my teen years, but age helps you appreciate all sorts of music. Including 'golden oldies: like this 👍✨✨👍
60s and 70s have so many gems. You're in for a treat if you deep dive.
I too am here because of Ruby Leigh's performance. As I watched it, I was overcome by the beauty of her performance. Spectacular!!
It is rare that I come across a song that I'd never heard before that just knocks me on my ass, but Last of Us episode 3 did it and I can't get enough of this song.
Check out her whole catalog. You’re in for a religious experience.
@@fasterpussycatkillkill9650 Funny thing is I am familiar with Stone Poneys and some of her other stuff, but never got to this. I’ve started with album one and been working my way through all day. Amazing.
All her stuff is good. She has the most hits in multiple genres.
You should to her awesome voice and songs
"The last of us" brought me straight to this exquisite song hit
I came for a car battery... stayed for this bitterly sweet gorgeousness....
Back then auto-tune was in the singer's throat. She had a truly rare and special voice AND dynamic self-belief. Watch a documentary about her for deeper appreciation. Rare talent indeed.
She had "perfect pitch" and was a perfectionist. Her gift, our gain.
It's not the 1970s without Linda Ronstadt.
Her music helped define that decade.
+George Vreeland Hill And the 80s, too. Can you recall her role in "The Pirates of Penzance" on Broadway in the 90s?
+George Vreeland Hill it sure did
+George Vreeland Hill it sure did
+steve unger NOBODY could have sang this song like Linda
+steve unger --alison from The Voice does come close.
"This isn't the tragic suicide at the end of the play. I'm old. I'm satisfied. You were my purpose." -Bill
Still crying. For Frank and Bill.
Willie Nelson said " there are two kind of men. Those who love Linda and those who don't know her".
Haunting. Her critics should be flogged. Linda was remarkable.
I think the critics liked her - I remember she got accolades for the album of standards and also when she was in Pirates of Penzance. They thought she had a voice that was better than the kind of music she usually sang (which is snotty, but whatever...!)
@@melizmatea Her songs helped when my husband and I separated! Used to sing her songs in the dark!
"Her critics should be flogged." LOL!
It's a good thing that writing a negative review of a performer isn't a flogging offense,
or there'd be a lot of hurtin' music critics!
She had critics??
Exactly
I've worn out countless 8 track tapes, Vinyl Albums, Cassettes , CD's, and Flash Drives listening to Linda. She's permanently on my play list. Her voice has color like no other singer, ever.
She'll always be my favorite vocalist. Classic & Irreplaceable.
Not me, loved her music forever! Saw someone sing this on The Voice and wanted to hear it at it's best!😆
Same here!
Me too 😊
Me too. Ruby on the Voice killed it,
Me too!
I'm doing the exact thing.
I grew up in Tucson in the 1960's and Linda is of course one of my long time favorites. This song still breaks my heart in 2021.
THS class of 1964. Loved her performances at Ash Alley well before she became famous.
@@TheCookyCutter Class of 67 at Phoenix Camelback High...all we had was Vince Furnier (Alice Cooper) from Cortez HS. They played the local clubs as The Spiders. Would rather have had Linda to grow up with, listening to her live...sigh.
Hey, another Tucsonian here (Rincon High School Class of '68). I still remember when she came back after DIfferent Drum and played at the Minus One coffee house with Bobby Kimmel and Kenny Edwards. She always blew everyone else away.
@@TheCookyCutter Also at the Minus One. RHS class of '68 so a little younger than you :-).

perfect in 1970 and still perfect in 2023,
The last of us, brought me here too, lovely tune, lovely voice 👏👏
Linda's proof that angels come down from heaven and sing us beautiful songs.
And, if you actually know Linda, that not all angels live in God's Heaven. Some are fallen and choose to reject Him.
Now THIS is music. Back when you could understand what they were saying.
THESATURNSSC1 Sure can't say that about today's music.
Id like to hear Miley try this song..
Michael Guerra Think I'll stick to Linda on that. lol
How true

As a professional singer I can say the strength and purity of the notes is simply astounding.
