I don't usually comment but, I am a femme lesbian, in my 20's, still living with my witness family and forced to go along with it. I can't move out, because of health challenges, I have a hard time working and can usually only sustain a small part time job, not enough to live on my own with. Beyond that I don't know anyone outside of the religion. Lately the amount of internalized homophobia and loneliness and isolation I feel has been so intense that I am in complete mental anguish. If there are any ex- jehovahs witnesses who are gay or just supportive that would be willing to reach out to me and be a friend, I would be so so grateful. It's a really hard place to be in and I am completely isolated and lost.

I'm going through a lot with one of my relatives who is a girl but she told me she feels more like a boy. My father has taken her into the mountains after her divorce and made her into a servant to girl. It's a difficult situation when there's MK involved the butterfly if you know what I mean. It has to be in the person's heart to get to where you really want to be I believe it can be done. I don't think we're ever going to be able to get her out of there. She has to want to do it and there has to be an Escape Plan , I throw hints out to her but she doesn't react in a way that tells me she wants to get out . My sister is 50 years old now and my father has put parental controls on her phone , and motion sensors he can tell if she's moving more than 15 mph , like she's in a car or something !!! He's an elder and it's so disgusting what I'm watching happened to my sister. I am pimo so I have to be very careful what I say to her. My father could tell her never to speak to me again and she would listen. My father yells at her and dictates and tells her what to do, very sad. When I was 12 years old I ran away and tried to get put in an orphanage because of physical and mental abuse. It was not easy to get away but I got it done. It may involve having to go into a shelter I had to do it several times. I was also homeless for four years, it's amazing what you can get done when you have determination. Talk to you soon

I knew Ken when he was a pioneer in the Waynesboro congregation in southcentral Pennsylvania. And yet my mom has the audacity to tell me that JW don't have hate speech and are not homophobic or transphobic. I tried to tell her how hearing stuff like this affected me growing up and she just could not fathom that it was damaging to me as a person who is trans and pansexual to hear these things. I was a tiny child thinking I was detestable to god because of something I never chose to be. Last night, my grandma had on another apocalypse movie right after I got home from a long day at work. She was saying how I need to prepare for disaster and how if I heard of the earthquake in India where thousands died. I told her that she’s right and how I know that they have some emergency kits. But she was telling me that I need one too and it sort of felt like she was indirectly saying, “ the end is near, jehovah says.” Without saying it, I feel like her doing all that is worse than just f*cken telling me about how I need it convert to jw.

Things like Klinefelter syndrome, which add a third chromosome and affect hormones, fertility, and other things. We know other variations of sex exist in humans. It' s not a stretch to understand such things can affect gender expression and sexual orientation as well. The reason these people have to appeal to the bible, with all of its far fetched myths, is because actual. Provable science doesn' t agree with them.

The name Earth is an English/German name which simply means the ground. It comes from the Old English words 'eor(th)e' and 'ertha'. In German it is 'erde'. The name Earth is at least 1000 years old. I got this from a quick Google search. If he had done the same thing, he would have known this.
The word "earth" translated from "eres" in Hebrew can mean "earth inhabitants" or "people of the land." I can’t imagine how harmful this talk would have been to listen to if I hadn’t woken up. I struggled with my sexuality for so many years, and this organization gave me so much internalized homophobia towards myself. Advise you to watch a video by a developmental biologist PZ Myers called XY Mom where he briefly goes over how genes control sexuality in humans. Being non binary is natural and it happens before birth. I’m a cis het female and I was severely emotionally abused over being female and going through puberty. The thing about how people should dress is exceedingly stupid. Through most of history people have worn tunic like things - male and female because it is simple, breathable, and allows for easy movement and this is functionally ... a dress. Trousers came out of equestrian-centric nomadic societies like Anatolian's (possible Amazon connections there) and Huns to prevent thigh chaffing. Also as far as genital morphology it makes MORE SENSE for those with phallic bits to wear the tunic type garment (the dress) and those without to wear trousers. What is "masculine" or "feminine" constantly shifts - as recently as the 40's-50's the colour pink was considered to be a masculine colour so those book written by humans from ancient societies has some standard for modern clothing which would be unrecognizable to them. The bible is bothersome because it is written by humans with free will and living within the context of their own societies, cultures, languages, educations, biases, and because of free will, everything is filtered through that - and there is a massive difference is "inspired by god" and "dictated by god" - and the subsequent ... ecumenical counsels that decided what would uphold their desired power structures and which books were too empowering. one of the things that I appreciate most leaving the CULT is my mind opening up, and accepting all kinds of people. I'm an ex JW father of 3 who disasociated many years ago. My oldest daughter has shunned me for many years with no contact at all in over 10 years. My middle daughter keeps in contact and doesn't tell anyone. My son is not a JW thankfully. If your father is anything like me he understands why you shunned him, and will never hold that against you. He must be very happy to have you back in his life.

The Church of England Synod just voted to allow blessings of same sex marriages, but will still not perform same sex marriages. Looks like more splits ahead, as the House of Clergy and House of Laity had significant no votes.
It is a hard journey, partly affected by being seen in a figurehead way by angli ans elsewhere, despite being administratively separate. Also being a state chur h for England, within UK. The gay marriage civil law passed with the assistance of religions being protected from being forced to,, for the state church (which marries people under its own set of laws) this means that gay marriage in Church of England will need an act of Parliament change. Other groups such as mine, Methodist, have been able toake a denominational decision to allow mber churches to host and preside same sex marriages. Still in some congregation they may vote not to but lots of us are in process of registering and celebrate the freedom to do so. However churches denominations do agree some members will migrate to those who have not yet. And impact the balance there. The Cof E still allows for a congregation to refuse to have a woman as their priest, a 30 Yr fudge they still live with...

In UK we have 4 jurisdictions Cof E, State church and seen as historic figurehead for worldwide Anglicans. Church in Wales - not established as state church. Scottish episcopal church, like Wales separate legally from CofE and not state church (in Scotland the Presbyterians (the Kirk) are the state established church). And Northern Ireland is linked to the Irish Republic Anglicans. The Cof E has had women priests since the 1990s and women now serving as bishops. However the 'protections' for the anti female priests part of the church are still in place which means congregations and priests can request oversight from only anti people. There are many gay priests, but on a don't ask don't tell basis, again these can find it hard to get an appt.

I have no words to express how upset this makes me, it was hard for me to come to terms with my sexuality and gender identity while I was a witness and thinking about all the friends I had who had more strictly religious parents. It just makes me worry, I haven’t heard from any of them in forever and I don’t think they would be interested in talking but I’m just going to worry that one day one of them will come to realization and be too far in to get out with even a semblance of a support system
Being non binary is natural! About 5-10 percent of the population is some version of non binary. All 3 abrahamic faiths have spent centuries lying about this. As a witness who’s gay and stuck ik plenty of gay witnesses. This isn’t a choice, I’ve know since I was a kid. I tried “praying the gay away” and dating men. I just ended up wasting time and it cause both of us misery. It’s also not as “unnatural” as they say b/c it’s quite common amongst animals (mammals), like full-fledged homo activity. The times these ppl have brung up gay people in my service groups is amazing. They start this hate train out of no where. I know witnesses who have called gays f*ggots but ofc behind closed doors b/c they’re such “loving people that don’t discriminate” (I’ve also dealt with racial discrimination). There’s too many witness kids I know who were abused either emotionally, physically and even sexually in the Org, most of them are gone and soon I will be too. I've been thinking about this video all morning. There are a number of theological issues I have with the talk, however it's refreshing to hear someone speaking up against homosexuality. Before anyone complains, firstly, the bible says all sexual immorality is wrong, not just homosexuality. Secondly, I am a survivor of child sexual abuse who has also struggled with my sexuality for 30years. Thirdly, it's not just homosexuality, it's all sin, whether that be worshipping false gods, not keeping the Commandments or whatever. It's really unfair to pick out one group of individuals. Lastly the G_D who created all people doesn't hate gay people, any more than anyone else, it's the sin that He hates, not the sinner. I'm not sure I won't get hate messages back, I don't want to upset people. I can empathise with the struggles many people have gone through with their sexuality, it's not easy in any way, even with a family that accepts who you are, let alone those that don't (or won't). All I want to do is state what the bible says.
I like your research. It's very competent. It harmonizes well with my own, who's been using the Watchtower material as part of the several sources of my own research as well. Something you also forgot to mention is that in the Scriptures, homosexuality and its consequences is directly comparible to bestiality and everything that comes with it. It's that bad. The thing is, I'm a very gay person who's attracted to hunky muscular men, and I love to lift in the gym (not all gym bros are gay like me ofc). At the same time, I know what's like to be in this organization, and it's a great struggle to live up to these high standards when I myself genuinely can't deny how super gay I truly am. I can also express my experience that I'm not like other gays who decide to become gay at one point in their life as if it's like a phase. Being gay is not a phase. This irks my sense of authenticity, and it makes me question if other gays are truly saying that they are one or are they in just because it's a modern trend, or there's peer pressure involved (or other worse means like deciding to become part of the LGBTQ+ to cover up actual wrongdoing back when said person used to claim being straight). At the same time, I also wholeheartedly acknowledge how strong the power of sin is. That's why it's very important to highlight that the hatred comes towards the sinful act itself, and not the person. However, there are just some standards imperfect humans simply cannot achieve in the old system of things, and one of them is this. If the truest of gays such as me can really be loved in the healthiest of sense, that it honors the individual and their potential of becoming so much more than they are in order to meet these standards God set up for all, there simply needs to be a miraculous intervention, but such time is clearly not now. If the "new light" recently revealed (that somewhat discredits the validity of this talk, which is critiqued in this video) that sinners can still be invited back *during* the Great Tribulation, it indirectly shows how hopeless it really is to change someone's sexuality back to the original standard of male and female. This is why, because of sin, sexual fluidity exists ever since. In order to solve this problem, it's the perfect state of humans that needs to be restored, not eradicating the gays and lesbians, etc.

I truly feel so bad for those who have biological conditions that confuse their gender and identity. As a former jw I know there is no grace given whatsoever. Growing up JW we know so little about the LGBT+ community so I'm hoping this talk might actually be accidentally helpful. Hearing him speak of the gender spectrum might make some people realise that they're trans or non-binary and that other people feel the way they do.
Seeing the queerphobia drenched in such hatred and disgust is so heavy being that over time people in the lgbtqia+ community have been losing their rights as human beings & autonomy over their bodies. We are simply trying to exist and love and yet the watchtower treats us as filth. I hope their organization collapses swiftly.

I disassociated at 38 (born in) in 1990s. I am gay. I don't ever recall them being so hard on gay people. It was a bad sin, like adultery or murder, but more shameful. But the official things I heard from the platform were not so mean spirited. There must be a LOT of gay people discovered in Bethel to make them so angry.

As a former member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, I'm very sorry but I have to disagree. There IS indeed a lot of anger and hatred in the sect I'm sad to report. Not everyone of course, my Mother for example has always been very unbothered and even welcoming to folks in the LGBTQ+ community, having eaten with them, invited them to our home and even to her wedding. We also frequented (and still do) frequent many gay owned and operated small businesses. So you're correct in that it doesn't permiate through the whole of the Society. But I've observed immense amounts of homophobia in our congregations and conventions in our district as leadership in the religion. So the hate is still common :(

I was so outraged at this talk. And it is so triggering. It's dehumanizing. It's insulting me personally and many other who have suffered inside of JW hate culture. I don't usually comment but, I am a femme lesbian, in my 20's, still living with my witness family and forced to go along with it. I can't move out, because of health challenges, I have a hard time working and can usually only sustain a small part time job, not enough to live on my own with. Beyond that I don't know anyone outside of the religion. Lately the amount of internalized homophobia and loneliness and isolation I feel has been so intense that I am in complete mental anguish. If there are any ex- jehovahs witnesses who are gay or just supportive that would be willing to reach out to me and be a friend, I would be so so grateful. It's a really hard place to be in and I am completely isolated and lost.

I'm going through a lot with one of my relatives who is a girl but she told me she feels more like a boy. My father has taken her into the mountains after her divorce and made her into a servant to girl. It's a difficult situation when there's MK involved the butterfly if you know what I mean. It has to be in the person's heart to get to where you really want to be I believe it can be done. I don't think we're ever going to be able to get her out of there. She has to want to do it and there has to be an Escape Plan , I throw hints out to her but she doesn't react in a way that tells me she wants to get out . My sister is 50 years old now and my father has put parental controls on her phone , and motion sensors he can tell if she's moving more than 15 mph , like she's in a car or something !!! He's an elder and it's so disgusting what I'm watching happened to my sister. I am pimo so I have to be very careful what I say to her. My father could tell her never to speak to me again and she would listen. My father yells at her and dictates and tells her what to do, very sad. When I was 12 years old I ran away and tried to get put in an orphanage because of physical and mental abuse. It was not easy to get away but I got it done. It may involve having to go into a shelter I had to do it several times. I was also homeless for four years, it's amazing what you can get done when you have determination. Talk to you soon

I was a tiny child thinking I was detestable to god because of something I never chose to be. I am so glad I finally woke up and see that all their hate is based on a truly terrible book that is full of horrible things aimed at giving some men power over women and minorities.

Last night, my grandma had on another apocalypse movie right after I got home from a long day at work. She was saying how I need to prepare for disaster and how if I heard of the earthquake in India where thousands died. I told her that she’s right and how I know that they have some emergency kits. But she was telling me that I need one too and it sort of felt like she was indirectly saying, “ the end is near, jehovah says.” Without saying it, I feel like her doing all that is worse than just f*cken telling me about how I need it convert to jw.

Things like Klinefelter syndrome, which add a third chromosome and affect hormones, fertility, and other things. We know other variations of sex exist in humans. The name Earth is an English/German name which simply means the ground. It comes from the Old English words 'eor(th)e' and 'ertha'. In German it is 'erde'. The name Earth is at least 1000 years old.

The word "earth" translated from "eres" in Hebrew can mean "earth inhabitants" or "people of the land."

I struggled with my sexuality for so many years, and this organization gave me so much internalized homophobia towards myself. The thing about how people should dress is exceedingly stupid. Through most of history people have worn tunic like things - male and female because it is simple, breathable, and allows for easy movement and this is functionally ... a dress. Trousers came out of equestrian-centric nomadic societies like Anatolian's (possible Amazon connections there) and Huns to prevent thigh chaffing. Also as far as genital morphology it makes MORE SENSE for those with phallic bits to wear the tunic type garment (the dress) and those without to wear trousers. What is "masculine" or "feminine" constantly shifts - as recently as the 40's-50's the colour pink was considered to be a masculine colour so those book written by humans from ancient societies has some standard for modern clothing which would be unrecognizable to them. I'm an ex JW father of 3 who disasociated many years ago. My oldest daughter has shunned me for many years with no contact at all in over 10 years. My middle daughter keeps in contact and doesn't tell anyone. My son is not a JW thankfully. If your father is anything like me he understands why you shunned him, and will never hold that against you. He must be very happy to have you back in his life.

Other groups such as mine, Methodist, have been able toake a denominational decision to allow mber churches to host and preside same sex marriages. Still in some congregation they may vote not to but lots of us are in process of registering and celebrate the freedom to do so. However churches denominations do agree some members will migrate to those who have not yet. And impact the balance there.

In UK we have 4 jurisdictions Cof E, State church and seen as historic figurehead for worldwide Anglicans. Church in Wales - not established as state church. Scottish episcopal church, like Wales separate legally from CofE and not state church (in Scotland the Presbyterians (the Kirk) are the state established church). And Northern Ireland is linked to the Irish Republic Anglicans.
The Cof E has had women priests since the 1990s and women now serving as bishops. However the 'protections' for the anti female priests part of the church are still in place which means congregations and priests can request oversight from only anti people. There are many gay priests, but on a don't ask don't tell basis, again these can find it hard to get an appt.

I have no words to express how upset this makes me, it was hard for me to come to terms with my sexuality and gender identity while I was a witness and thinking about all the friends I had who had more strictly religious parents. It just makes me worry, I haven’t heard from any of them in forever and I don’t think they would be interested in talking but I’m just going to worry that one day one of them will come to realization and be too far in to get out with even a semblance of a support system

They are male but look female. They are XY chromosomes but they develop as a girl because their body cannot use testosterone. It doesn't work on their bodies. Or how about XXY chromosomes? Born with ambiguous genitalia? What then? Intersex people exist they always have

As a witness who’s gay and stuck ik plenty of gay witnesses. This isn’t a choice, I’ve know since I was a kid. I tried “praying the gay away” and dating men. I just ended up wasting time and it cause both of us misery. It’s also not as “unnatural” as they say b/c it’s quite common amongst animals (mammals), like full-fledged homo activity. The times these ppl have brung up gay people in my service groups is amazing. They start this hate train out of no where. I know witnesses who have called gays f*ggots but ofc behind closed doors b/c they’re such “loving people that don’t discriminate” (I’ve also dealt with racial discrimination). There’s too many witness kids I know who were abused either emotionally, physically and even sexually in the Org, most of them are gone and soon I will be too. These ppl should be ashamed to call themselves “the truth”, when they stay lying and withholding the truth.

I've been thinking about this video all morning. There are a number of theological issues I have with the talk, however it's refreshing to hear someone speaking up against homosexuality.
Before anyone complains, firstly, the bible says all sexual immorality is wrong, not just homosexuality. Secondly, I am a survivor of child sexual abuse who has also struggled with my sexuality for 30years. Thirdly, it's not just homosexuality, it's all sin, whether that be worshipping false gods, not keeping the Commandments or whatever. It's really unfair to pick out one group of individuals. Lastly the G_D who created all people doesn't hate gay people, any more than anyone else, it's the sin that He hates, not the sinner.
I'm not sure I won't get hate messages back, I don't want to upset people. I can empathise with the struggles many people have gone through with their sexuality, it's not easy in any way, even with a family that accepts who you are, let alone those that don't (or won't). All I want to do is state what the bible says.
I like your research. It's very competent. It harmonizes well with my own, who's been using the Watchtower material as part of the several sources of my own research as well. Something you also forgot to mention is that in the Scriptures, homosexuality and its consequences is directly comparible to bestiality and everything that comes with it. It's that bad.
The thing is, I'm a very gay person who's attracted to hunky muscular men, and I love to lift in the gym (not all gym bros are gay like me ofc). At the same time, I know what's like to be in this organization, and it's a great struggle to live up to these high standards when I myself genuinely can't deny how super gay I truly am. I can also express my experience that I'm not like other gays who decide to become gay at one point in their life as if it's like a phase. Being gay is not a phase. This irks my sense of authenticity, and it makes me question if other gays are truly saying that they are one or are they in just because it's a modern trend, or there's peer pressure involved (or other worse means like deciding to become part of the LGBTQ+ to cover up actual wrongdoing back when said person used to claim being straight).
At the same time, I also wholeheartedly acknowledge how strong the power of sin is. That's why it's very important to highlight that the hatred comes towards the sinful act itself, and not the person.
However, there are just some standards imperfect humans simply cannot achieve in the old system of things, and one of them is this. If the truest of gays such as me can really be loved in the healthiest of sense, that it honors the individual and their potential of becoming so much more than they are in order to meet these standards God set up for all, there simply needs to be a miraculous intervention, but such time is clearly not now. If the "new light" recently revealed (that somewhat discredits the validity of this talk, which is critiqued in this video) that sinners can still be invited back *during* the Great Tribulation, it indirectly shows how hopeless it really is to change someone's sexuality back to the original standard of male and female. This is why, because of sin, sexual fluidity exists ever since. In order to solve this problem, it's the perfect state of humans that needs to be restored, not eradicating the gays and lesbians, etc.
The sad reality of JW thinking is hatred and a lack of compassion or love 4 neighbour! Jesus clearly accepted ALL people - THEY DO NOT!
It’s particularly funny considering that the word homosexuality wasn’t introduced in the Bible until 1946 and actually isn’t included in the Bible in a hateful context…ever unless it’s a Bible “translated” in the 50 years. His level of distorting the meaning and taking things out of context are incredible. You can’t validate Christian policies with the Hebrew Scriptures…he’s right behind Stephen Lett and his gay nephew that killed himself because his family was so awful.

I truly feel so bad for those who have biological conditions that confuse their gender and identity. As a former jw I know there is no grace given whatsoever. I'm just grateful I've never had to deal with these issues. Everyone else should feel the same. Folkestone with these issues have such a struggle, lifelong struggle just to exist

Growing up JW we know so little about the LGBT+ community so I'm hoping this talk might actually be accidentally helpful. Hearing him speak of the gender spectrum might make some people realise that they're trans or non-binary and that other people feel the way they do.

I disassociated at 38 (born in) in 1990s. I am gay. I don't ever recall them being so hard on gay people. It was a bad sin, like adultery or murder, but more shameful. But the official things I heard from the platform were not so mean spirited. There must be a LOT of gay people discovered in Bethel to make them so angry.

Not all people in that community do that, some do, that's bad manners but also a type of personality. As for morals well it's a new world order and I take the view of live and let live, we are each entitled to live our lives as we see fit. Ponder the situation of a beloved grandchild growing up and deciding this is what they want, how would you feel, when you look at religion down through the centuries, the witch hunts based on morals, the wars based on morals, is that really the type of world you want? For the sake of someone elses morals eg church leaders, politicians, etc what has mankind done in the name of high morals is attrotious. We don't have to be right or wrong, we can coexist with mutual respect . That is what most people want, mutual respect, you don't have to join the revolution, but it should be acknowledged that other people morals enforced on the masses is usually a way to manipulate others.
I've been out over 40 years and I've only just in last two years realised how dangerous this organisation is in its multifactorial abuse and how it destroys lives, when they call babies enemies of God, when they allow pedophiles to continue to abuse all the time knowing what is happening and doing very little to protect the weakest. As a Christian I believe there are only 2 genders, male and female, and I am against gay marriage in the Anglican church... BUT..... I won't push my beliefs on anyone, they are MY beliefs. The Bible says homosexuality is a sin and I believe the Bible, it's the foundation of my faith.

As a former member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, I'm very sorry but I have to disagree. There IS indeed a lot of anger and hatred in the sect I'm sad to report. Not everyone of course, my Mother for example has always been very unbothered and even welcoming to folks in the LGBTQ+ community, having eaten with them, invited them to our home and even to her wedding. We also frequented (and still do) frequent many gay owned and operated small businesses. So you're correct in that it doesn't permiate through the whole of the Society. But I've observed immense amounts of homophobia in our congregations and conventions in our district as leadership in the religion. So the hate is still common :(

I was so outraged at this talk. And it is so triggering. It's dehumanizing. It's insulting me personally and many other who have suffered inside of JW hate culture.
