I remember a woman who would tear up every time she would talk about her husband. Some of the jehovah witness women would talk behind her back. They said, why is she still grieving? He will be resurrected in the new system. She must not have enough faith in jehovah. It was sickening.

I experienced a very unfortunate situation with my family and my father and sister died well before their time. The grief was immense. Whilst I was a JW I never processed the grief properly as I was told constantly that I would see them again. It's very unhealthy and I struggled to talk about my dead relatives without breaking down for years afterwards. When I left I finally came to terms with what had happened and that I wouldn't see them again. Despite the fact I had to relive my grief again, I actually processed it and now I have dealt with it in a healthy way. Now I don't cry anymore, I don't need to. I remember them and they are alive in my heart and mind and will always be with me.
Now it makes sense when I look back at the widowed sisters who would uncontrollably cry about their husband they lost over 20 years ago. It's because they haven't dealt with grief due to this dreadful teaching.

I've often thought this, often I observed JWs would break down when fellow believers try to comfort them with the New System hope. The real tragedy is that this the grief is caused by the cognitive dissonance kicking in and suppressing that voice in the back of their minds that knows its not true.

    Wally,
I remember in the 70s and 80s, my parents saying stuff like "Well, toddlers will be o.k. because of their parents." I think it was said from the stage too.
I think it's an old WT thing. Some things are just oral tradition, good for weasely, slippery cults.
    Personal antidotes:
My narc parents didn't push me to baptism tho, because they always thought of me as younger than I was and held me back in many things. As if not getting baptized would keep me under their control.
Same with marriage, and they treated me like I rebelled by getting married, until they died! Narcs are the worst. Never bonded either. Pretty much sperm and egg donors, then slave owners.

It’s interesting that the Watchtower from February 2017 study edition page 26, paragraph 12 admits that the faithful slave is neither inspired nor infallible and therefore can err in doctrine. Then it says that Jesus never said that the slave would produce perfect spiritual food. That is comparable to going into a restaurant and reading a sign that says our cook does not always cook your food properly. That they admit to erring in doctrine is disturbing because they are as much as saying that god misleads them doctrinally on occasion. Even C.T. Russell said that truth never changes but can only be added to.

The reason Abraham was ordered by Jehovah to sacrifice Isaac was because firstly Jehovah is Satan, an extremely evil, vile and hostile God, secondly he loves blood sacrifices, and thirdly, he knew Jesus was to be born from his line of descendants. It was an attempt to disrupt Jesus from being born on earth as he'd prove to be a threat to his sovereignty.

To be fair, the "no more sea" verse is in Revelation, which is almost exclusively poetry, so it's probably not actually talking about the literal sea. But there's no reason to think it's referring to a demonic swarm, either.

Exactly! Nobody knows the day or the hour in which the Master/Lord returns. Jesus Himself said that nobody know the day or the hour right there in Matthew chapter 24. Also, He gave a lot of parables and similar stories in which He reminds His followers to be ready and watchful, because nobody will know the hour in which the Lord/Master will return.

Maybe the letter was stained with tears Wally?
My father had cancer and denied a blood transfusion, which could have given me more time with him. I was mistreated by JWs for decades for having depression, being sad and missing my father. JWs criminalize grief because members must be walking, talking advertisements for the group so that others are drawn in. I overdosed and was in a coma and tried to kill myself many times because I knew that something was wrong but I thought it was me. My own mother told me to get over my dad and that her loss was greater than mine. My mind was shut off because my dead father was dangled in front of me like a carrot.

The shackle they try to use to keep people in can be brutal and cruel. I lost my husband after we woke up and left the organization. My sister in law chose the second day after I lost my beloved husband to say to me, "you know if you don't starting doing what Jehovah requires of you, you will never see your husband again." That was such a cruel thing to say and it did not have the effect of making me want to come back to an organization that teaches people to be so heartless. It solidified in my mind that this is not what a loving, merciful God would ever say or put into the minds of anyone else to say something like that. Don't get me wrong, I love my sister in law, and respect her, but I am shunned by her and my family and that in many ways is a relief. I was angry for a good while over what she said, but it really showed me how brainwashed we were. The requirements of the God of the Watchtower is a cruel task master. What kind of parent, which God supposedly is, would decide to put so much requirements on their children and then if they got tired and slowed down, or had questions or doubts, he would just threaten to put them to death? It a human parent were to have that attitude, we would wholeheartedly and rightfully, condemn that person. That is not the kind of God I could ever believe in.

If the bible was a moral reference, even remotely, Abraham test would have been to reject God's command to kill his son. He didn´t pass the test. The moral of the story should have been not to blindly obey every command and do terrible things in the name of God.
Imagine how many atrocities would have been avoided since then.

I was baptised at age 15... at the time there was a special "class" everyone who was seeking to be baptised had to take and then answer a series of questions, to make sure they understood the difference between right and wrong, were at an age of "understanding" the Watchtower (insert Bible for their speech), and could handle the responsibility of representing the Org. with out bringing any disrespect on it. Now what this new light about toddlers tells me some things = 1. More fear mongering to keep people in line. 2. Plumping up those numbers to look good, since there has been a big decline. 3. It sounds like they are taking on the worlds idea that kids know what they want (ie = trans, gay, etc) and using that worldly thought to push people to baptize toddlers. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I mean… most likely a woman wrote in and said that she wept at the funeral of her loved one and finally understood why people cry at weddings.
    I had a similar experience.
I did not cry at the funeral of my father.
I did cry at the funeral of my mother.
Not because it was devastating or because I was sad or distraught.
I cried for the same reason I cried at the wedding of my cousin who is 3 years older than I am… because it was a significant milestone.
I cried at the wedding because it was a signifier that we were no longer children. She was no longer just a child, but a wife who might soon be a mother.
Can’t have any more of a signifier of the end of childhood than both parents dead. It’s a major milestone in life that can be emotional with tears…that does not mean those are tears of sadness.
I was living with my parents at age 29.
Moved back after college. I had day job. And I was also performing Shakespeare at night. I would have a couple weeks to rest in between gigs and didn’t have time to look for my own place…until my mother said I was too old to still be living at home and that I needed to find my own place at by the end of the next month.
My mother watched me drive away the day I moved out and cried. Not because she was sad that I was leaving but because it was a major milestone.
Heck. I cry when people win the Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent because that’s a life-changing moment for them.
The real theatrics and manipulation in this part of the reading is interpreting the woman’s tears as tears of sadness and devastation.
All she said is that she didn’t understand why people cry at funerals, but then found herself crying at a funeral. She didn’t say she cried because she was overwhelmed with sadness.
People might also cry at family reunions - especially when they see people they haven’t seen in many years. And those could be tears of joy, instead of sadness. Because it’s a significant event.
And Humans might cry when they are feeling some emotion. People also sometimes cry when they are angry

    In one sentence, Tightpants said:
    1. “A sister wrote in, I won’t name her…” I almost guarantee you this is because people are realizing that the “experiences” and other things the WT says are purposefully vague, without specifics or citations, and often made up to suit their narrative (“a blind man in a South American country told two sisters…”, stuff like that). I’m not even saying the particular communication Tony says didn’t happen in any form, just like he’s trying to show that their stories are so real and you should totally trust them.
    2. That the sister who wrote the letter was “honest… and *humble* about it”. Did this strike anyone else as weird? To me, it was almost like it was slipped in as a subtle warning to JWs about how they should handle questioning the “reality” the WTS presents, and how they should approach things like writing the WTS with their own thoughts. Maybe it’s just me…
