This is the video our generation needs.
If I can save just one millennial, it was worth it.
So how does it power 😳
stupid..even kids can do it..where is the wiring part?
A millennial married couple here! Me and my husband enjoyed doing this home project together. Thank you!
So hard to find a video that shows you how to actually wire it. Cutting holes in ceiling and all that is super easy. I have no idea how to get power to the light. You know, connect the light to the electricity. THE most important step, that these tutorials seem to leave out every time.
Green to green white to white black to black
If you don't know how to wire, then probably leave it to the professionals is a better choice. It is electricity after all and there is a chance of fire if not done right 😂
I agree. I know that I am capable but I just need to view it and learn. I have watched so many videos and people keep leaving that part out. They always say "leave it to the professionals", as if those professionals didn't also have to start somewhere. I'm not trying to wire an entire home, just add some led ceiling lights.
Yeah. What is the proper wiring diagram? Do you wire these lights in series by jumping from one light to the next or do you use a star pattern with a central junction box that feeds each light with it's own 14/2?
Or without an attick
You showed the easiest parts of the install. What about wiring the string from the original box to each light? The video search goes on I guess. That website to calculate the measurements was brilliant. I'd never heard of that one before - thanks!
If you find that video, can you update this comment?
If you don't know how to connect each light to the adjacent one, or from a power source; you shouldn't be doing this yourself.
Same i hoping ti see if you drill through rafters or can wiring get secured to top of rafters? Do wire need to be in metal conduit
@@Randy_84 Guess you were BORN with that knowledge, huh? Everything is simple, once explained. Only the jerks seem to forget that there was a day they didn't know either.
@@Randy_84 if you know how, you wouldn't be watching a how to video smart guy. The point is to learn and you are hating because he's trying to?
I am a professional home remodeling contractor, but I love to see what other people are doing wit their projects when I have time. This is faaarrrrrr and away one of the best DIY videos I have ever seen! Not only is the overall production quality excellent, although simple in it s execution, but this guy has taken the time to make very clear explanations and the camera work and sound quality are great! Please keep them coming! 90% of RUclipsrs could learn a hell of a lot from your production example. I cringe at most of the DIY videos out there!
Wish you would have shown you wiring them all together
Here's a video showing you how to unbox, drill large holes, and plug things in. Enjoy. I have to give credit on the links though.

Great video! Ordered my lights and was looking for some instructions but none really explained the wiring part and you did awesome! Thank you!
Great job on the install, they look super!
To the point!
I love the software page to have equals sizes !! Amazing !
Wow this is awesome 😎. I’m installing some too to for me and my dad. And even if we are right on a joist it will still work. Even in mobile homes with only 2x4 space.😎👍
Great job Nick. I'm actually planning to install can lights in our kitchen soon and so glad I found this!
That's such an easy light to install. Love them for retrofits.
Soo easy!
So how does it power?😳
Awesome! Need to keep these in mind for the next house!
Thanks! You should!
Doing this ASAP upstairs in my studio room and bedroom!
no regerts.
This video is lit. That distancing website it amazing.
HA! It really is! I'm so glad I stumbled upon it.
very cool!!! Ill have to get some when Im ready to change out my lights
Thanks for watching!
You made it look really easy. Nicely narrated!
Thank you kindly!
AMAZING VIDEO!! Been Looking for a video loke this for so long!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!
I was looking for the wiring instructions. Thanks
Awesome video! Just what I needed. Are you concerned about how hot the little transformer gets? I was wondering if I should install Tenmat fire hoods, I have a flat roof? Thanks!
I don’t know if you read your comments sir. But I appreciate you thank you for your time I’m roughing in some and it is going to be very helpful
Can I use the old junction box? Also if it’s 2 pin and the other box has 3 pin is there an adapter or do I have to change out everything?
What did u do with the original junction box did u patch the hole up and did u simply connect/run all those 4 lights into that main junction, can u show us how u did that? Thanks so much
Excellent video!! Well done
Thank you for the video Nick. I see your two Amigo's from shop sounds commented...finally. haha. I also want to give you props for the editing you do for Shannon on that other podcast with that dude that whispers to wood and the hairy dude that likes slabs. Shannon has been giving you thanks for your help in all things related to sound and video.
Thanks for watching, Rich! …and thanks for listening to that other podcast I work with 🤣
Hello, Thanks for the instructions! Three of the eight ceiling LED lights turned off with no reason. I tested the LED lights, they work fine but there must be a problem in the wiring or in the J-Box. Do you think I should rewire or but a new J-Box to fix it?
Great video!
can these be replacements for traditional can flood lights in kitchens? I assume they come in various diameters.....
cool video.. thanks for these great tips!
Thanks for watching!
Great video man!
Glad you liked it! Now I expect to see you installing these in your house!
Great tutorial.
Really great video and simple install! Thanks for showing the details!
Thanks for watching, Bruce!
Hated Lever nuts, they've failed on me so many times, so id rather use the traditional twist nuts. Worked perfectly when installing these.
Definitely keep the gasket on. It seals your light to the sheetrock so your air doesn't leak. Especially if you have a texture like the one on the video. OR at least caulk behind it in the attic. Air infiltration is killer for your energy consumption.
Any recommendations on how to remove and replace them? I have one flickering
I found some really well priced 3", 4" and 6" slim pot lights from a company called Product Pro Industrial Supplies. They have both a Canadian and US site for easy ordering.
What did you do to the hole where the old led light was? Patched it up?
hi .. nice video. i have a problem, i installed the leds and my afci started tripping and when i reset it, it works fine again. any idea what the problem could be? thank you in advance
So what goes out on them? Is it just the "bulb" portion so that you leave the junction box and only plug a new light in?
How do you wire them in series? None of these videos seem to explain this unless i skipped over it. You must have a wire in and a wire out, and combine all 3 black wires etc in that same 3 way connector? Or are they just two way?
great video thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
If you want to dim them is there going to be another wire? Which way go connector would you wire it too
How do you daisy chain these if you only have one existing light wire?
how did you know if you would need 14/2 or 14/3 for the wiring?
I have similar LED junction box recessed LED lighting. I'm looking to swap with Philips Hue, but the cable ends don't match (3 prong junction box vs. Orange LED cable head). Any tips?
Great video. I'm not electrically minded, how do I tap in the 3 wires from the lighting box into the existing wire and then daisy chain to more recessed lights? Is it just a matter of matching up the white, red, green wires and then carrying on?
thanks! google how to daisy chain and it'll show you all you need to know, it's very simple.
Thanks for the video, but can you tell me how you connected all together in one!
Good job!!!
Is there any concerns about the light or the box being exposed to the insulation ? I noticed the insulation right above the hole which will be the case for me. Is It a fire hazard or anything?
It would have been nice to see you run the wires from one hole to next, but what do I know. Lol
I was thinking the exact same thing. I’ve watched 39 videos trying to watch somebody do it with no attic above the room there working on. I’m trying to figure out how they connect to each other. Each individual Light?
Well the first one would have to be the middle because that’s the existing power drop. You would need to drill the holes and run wiring from the center to the second hole. From the second hole to the third one, etc. Do the math and determine the shortest distance to save on wiring. If the holes are not too far apart, you should be able to flop the wiring around until it’s close enough to grab it.
Use one knockout as power in, and another knockout as power out. Be sure to use those plastic grommet inserts he showed to protect the wiring and keep it from sliding in and out of the box. Finally, be sure to check your local electrical codes and make sure they don’t require anything out of the ordinary. Check your light and driver to see if they are IC rated as well or they require air gaps all around.
Man tell me about it! Smh
Can i change out my white led light. With color one’s. By just connecting the new light to the junction box. Are the pin connections universal?
Great vid thanks
Good for you having attic access! Otherwise to feed wire in daisy chain across joists with no attic access you would then need to drill through the joists correct?
you are correct!
great job bro
Would like to see how you connected the light to the junction box in the ceiling
Can anyone recommend a dimmer switch for dimmable canless led lights that wont cause buzzing?
Thanks for the well made video. I plan on doing the same very soon. My layout is similar, even with the same fixture in the center. One question; what did you do where you took out the fixture? Did you put a recessed light in it's place? I couldn't tell by the video.
Thanks.
I'm wondering the same thing. What did he do with the old hole from the first LED light.
Don’t you think just possibly he patched the holes and painted
Great job
thank you!
How did you wire them up?
what did you do with the vapor barrier
With the website and your measurements how did you determine you needed the 5th one? Just personal choice? That install looks super simple!
I added the 5th to just add a bit more lumens to the room. The more the merrier in the kitchen and yes, super simple install!
Can u cut the twist connector off and just wire it to a 12 Volt system
What size are knock outs and knockout connectors?
I’m putting these in my living room but need to do two zones, each on a new switch. Still not sure how to wire that!!
Was that a lampshade around your drill? You just didn’t see the a peel to removing the plastic. I see what you did there. Great walkthrough of installing these. This makes more sense seeing you install these.
subtle puns are the best puns. That was a dust bowl around the hole saw, link is in the description if you wanna better look at it and thanks for watching!
Where would you put the junction box if it’s a concrete ceiling
nice video. What type of flooring do you have in your kitchen?. It is hard wood or hardwood-like ceramic/porcelain?
Thanks! We have red oak hardwood floors.
You light up my life.
You commenting on my video has completed my life...it’s all downhill from here.
@@KeyWoodworks I don’t know about down hill...maybe side hill...
Nope....straight down hill from here
@@KeyWoodworks Enjoy!
And I thought Nick was whispering "I love you" to us podcast listeners....I think now it was all for KJ...lol
So if I have 1 light fixture in my living room and I use those wires how do I connect more than 1 light?
What adapter did you use to on your drill to catch all the debris from falling on you?
That’s the dust bowl. Link is description
Great video! Are these the same lights you have in your shop too?
Thanks! These aren't the same brand as my shop lights though.
If you have an old house where the ceiling is more than one layer of drywall, do those springs still work?
You could always remove some of the drywall so the springs would work.
The first tool used seems to be the one tool not listed. That wicked knife you open the box with! What is it?
ah that's my Gerber Folding Cleaver - amzn.to/2M48qII
I need to see and know how to connect that single switch junction box to the power from the old light?, otherwise good job.
Thanks for the great tutorial. What are your recommendations for installing these lights in a living room? Higher or lower than the 4000K? Thanks!
I went with 3000K in all other living spaces and its a great color option.
Thanks so much!@@KeyWoodworks
I am recently installing recessed led lights and I got the variable settings one that u can set at 3k, 4K, 5k. Then I added a dimmer cuz these r dimmable. Therefore u can vary the brightness for cool to white bright
@@KeyWoodworks an electrician installed these lights in our bathroom, but the instructions don't show how to change the color temperature, can you tell me how
If your lights are able to change color temps, there should be a switch on the junction box to make that change.
How do you replace/remove them? Just pulling or would the springs damage the ceiling?
Just pull down!
Question. Assuming you used the existing light as a power source. Did you run the romex from one junction box to all 4 lights individual or did you run the lights in series and go light to light?
I daisy chained the lights together meaning I ran the Rolex from one light to the next.
Okay! Thanks for the insight. Was curious if you had enough room inside the junction box to make the connections. Doing this is my kitchen this weekend and was doing some research. Appreciate the insight.
Plenty of room in the junction boxes.
So when you get to your last light, you only use two slots in the wire nut? As the 3rd slot would be used only if you were running wiring to another light?
bingo, you can use a 2 wire wago connector to terminate your last light.
@@KeyWoodworks and in your junction box you replaced in the attic, did you use a 2 wire wago lever nuts to connect the existing 14/2 to the 14/2 you ran to each hole?
Three slot lever nut in the junction box.
It was helpful to see how the light’s clips are spring loaded-but what is an easy way to release them if you need to change them? (I have one that flickers/or does not work sometimes.
Just pull it down. Simple as that.
@@KeyWoodworks thanks-upon closer inspection the installers mudded around the fixture-so I will need to slice it from the ceiling.
How did u connect the wiring?
Thank you much! Question: what did you do with the junction box?
Exactly no power no instructions horrible video
Do you not have to connect the junction box to the ceiling joist? It looks like you just threw it up there.
Something I didn't understand sorry please help. What happened to the electric source? I only saw you put the wires from the recessed light to the orange thing connector but where is the electricity source is from? I am learning DIY as well
Nice! Do these cause heat of any kind? Is it safe to be near insulation?
The ones I used out out almost zero heat and are rated to be near insulation.
just make sure these are ICE rated
I recommend to leave the gasket ring on, this will help stop the draft air flowing into your house, or humid air rising up into your attic that can cause black mould. it's good to realize that a team of Engineers and or Designers have developed these lights to work in our homes so that some of the "not so experienced DIY'ers" are successful. Seldom do I change a product that Engineers produce.
How do I connect all these lights together
Ive got a question bro. Is it possible to install one of these ultra thin lights into an existing can using a e26 adapter? I know there the retrofit that is meant for that but I really like the look of the ensenior or being that I also installed some in my house I’d like them to all match Also great video 👍🏽
They don’t go in existing cans. You can just take out the entire old can, cut the hole to the right size for the LEDs if you need to and put them in.
@@KeyWoodworks but can it be done?
I don’t see why not.
What did you do with the old hole and fixture?
Three the fixture away and patched the hole.
You made this look soo easy 👍🏽
It was! thanks!
That's because they only showed the easy parts 😆 Using laser levels and laser distance tools, using a website to tell them where to place the lights, etc. Doesn't attempt to show the electrical work necessary to go from one light source in the center of the room to four light sources.
Any tips on how to remove these? I moved into a condo that had these pre installed and one is flickering. I seem to only scratch/crack the ceiling trying to get under the flushed edges.
Just pull them down from an edge
How do you take it off ?
Great video! But I did have one question. Why did you take the light out before drilling? Wanted to break out a new headlamp? lol
So I could measure where the new light needed to go.
How did you connect the other lights to the first one?
Daisy chained them
were did you buy your island chairs?
From a counter height table and chair set from a big box store.
Good vid👍
thanks!
@@KeyWoodworks
Just did some this weekend
Cheers
You showed everything but what I needed to know lol. How to run the wire.
Look elsewhere.
I can connect this led light with 220 volt ac
Did you just replace the old hole with new drywall to cover?
Yeah, just cut out a section and patched in a new piece.
"More importantly, my wife loves them.." Smart man right here!
Look goo bro
DOPPPEEEE!!
