  • Have a damaged Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera?
    I did and needed to strip it down to replace the vulnerable micro HDMI port so created this video showing how to strip it down and get to it.
    I hope it helps some other people who need to do the same thing.
    If you want to buy the correct replacement port for this camera this is the right one:

    The spring tang is in the wrong location... that causes the battery door to want to stay closed, when it is supposed to spring open. You need to flip the spring around so that top part is on the other side, then when you install the door and the pin into the camera, make sure that tang sits against the visible part of the battery compartment. I checked with another BMPCC OG I have, and then it sprung open properly.

    niceee. the ubs port is quite easy to replace. also by seeing how the sensor cooling is done, u can see it depends on the alloy case. so i m sure its better off without the rubber black cover..

      I didn’t look at the USB port but I don’t think it’s a major problem for most owners, the Micro HDMI is the biggest issue with these cameras.
      I haven’t heard of over heating problems but people are of course welcome to modify their own in any way they like.

    Just lost the hdmi port on mine after many years of good work. Just pushed too hard and the micro hdmi port broke free of the board. This makes it obvious that you can't get it fixed unless you have a high end micro-soldiering technician to reattach those legs. Bummer b/c it makes a great 3rd camera for streaming. But alas it's better to just buy a new one for any output needs. Well done though.

    Thank you for this tear down. Do you know if there's any extension ribbons available for the rear buttons & screen?

      You’re welcome 😉 I don’t know I’m afraid but I don’t think it would be a tough job to get them made by an electronics PCB manufacturer but it won’t be cheap.
      You might be able to get replacements if you talk to blackmagic support.

    I would totally put thermal paste on the copper holder, that acts as a cooler.

    • @neilhester-tech
      @neilhester-tech  2 года назад +1

      I would only disturb this if there was actually an overheating problem , which I haven’t seen.
      Easy to do if that ever becomes an issue in the future.

      @@neilhester-tech Completelly agree, but believe me, once you get an overheating alert from a mirrorless for recording 5 minutes in a radio studio, you take it as a heavy issue.
