    These chickens look like they have game blood. That's why they could fly so well. I had seen my game rooster flying across a pond about 1.5 football field length, no problem.

    They all look graceful in flight. Chicken wings are larger than they look.

    WOW... they are strong flyers just like the Guinea Fowl! Our game hens typically fly like these, but their wings are noticeably just a broad as the guinea fowls wings. thanx for sharing!

    It's nice to see how guinea fowls (which are usually prone to fly in certain situations) seem to stimulate chickens' pride to show they really can do the same!! :D

    • @joohsay
      @joohsay 6 лет назад +13

      lol. I was wondering the same thing. Being around other ground birds that take to the wing, just activate their innate ability to do it. Its crazy but they fly just like Guinea fowls.

      It's not really pride. It's instinct. You have to follow the flock.

      @@joohsay Little late to the party but the reason why they fly similarly is because both species (Guinea Fowl and Chicken) are galliformes. They belong to the same group of birds, and have evolved a very similar flight pattern known as fast-flapping flight. They have extremely powerful pectoral muscles which allow them to fly in sudden explosive bursts at very high speeds, but for short distances only.
      Contrary to popular thought, their endurance once airborn is limited not by the size of their wings (galliformes have rather large wings, which are in fact perfect for low altitude flapping flight) but rather by their muscle structure. Their breast is made of largely Anaerobatic white fibres, which are powerful but not good for sustained effort.
      Turkeys, which are also galliformes, can fly in excess of 55 mph, but only for a few miles at a time... and that's rare.

    An example of the flying ability of wild chicken, which is not that bad, and which is actually very functional for escaping predation in its environment: in this hunting video, a junglefowl even manages to outspeed three trained hawks in a few seconds with a very explosive take off and flight, before diving into bushes, while the hawks continue roaming above.

    With this I confirm that chickens can fly, and seemingly get stimulated by guinea fowls to do so, but, are all regular farm chickens able to do fly like that? These ones even remind me of pheasants, their wings look at least twice as long and broad as the regular white chicken. Thank you.

    • @theduckfather1019
      @theduckfather1019 3 года назад

      Only some breeds can fly. The white chicken are broilers and definitely can't fly. Bantam breeds and smaller breeds sometimes can

    I just can't stop watching this video!
    You are so lucky to own them.Do you have old English game bantams as well?
    Can you try to make more videos with them flying?
    Sorry to be so disturbing but I am very very exiting to see chickens flying.I have a pair of old English game bantams and a pair of red jungle fowls but they are only 4 month old.Even though they are young, they can fly very well.I saw the females flying over my pond(about 30 meters),and during the night they climb a huge oak tree to roost.It's an amazing sight to see them flying down in the morning.
    Thank's in advance!
    As a personal question...Where are you from and how old are you?

      Martin Monarch I don’t have any OEG but I will try to get some more videos, it’s currently summer so the hens are laying so they tend not to fly as much when they are in lay as they are heavier and don’t want to risk breaking eggs. I’m 19 from England.

      How much do your guineas weigh? And your best flying chicken?

    • @pierdomenicosommati443
      @pierdomenicosommati443 6 лет назад +2

      Wikipedia says that wild guinea fowls get to an average of 1.3 kg... your guineas look much larger than that!

    • @chickenchannel5010
      @chickenchannel5010  6 лет назад +4

      pier domenico sommati my guinea fowl are a similar weight to my welsummer Cockerel or Swedish flower hen Cockerel so I’d imagine around 2.5 kg but they are very varied. My best flying hen is about the same weight and size as a Hamburg bantam hen so around 700g
