Philippine Airlines (RP-C7473) Boeing 747-400 Emergency landing at LAX

- A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet declared an emergency because of a possible blown tire, but the plane was able to land safely at Los Angeles International Airport.
The pilot initially descended to a low altitude so a police helicopter could inspect the tire's condition, then pulled up again and circled before landing.
The Boeing 747 then touched down smoothly around 9 p.m. Friday.
The aircraft idled on the runway as fire trucks and other ground crews surrounded it.
It turns out that two tires had blown.
An airport spokeswoman said 400 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the plane. Авто/Мото
Reason why I feel safest flying with Philippine airlines. They've got some of the best pilots! Kudos!
True they make plane without crashing
Thank the engineers who designed a plane that can land safely on two failed tyres and the skill of the pilots, great combination.
Stu Mac most of PAL pilots are former well trained Ph Air Force :)
You know why Filipino pilots are good? 85% of our domestic airport are not equipped with landing sophistication like VOR, ILS so Filipino pilots is trained in landing planes on visual approach. With or without sophistication they can land it just like parking a car... :)
Ofc they are the PAL pilots nicknames are "the master of landings"
Philippine Airlines pilots are best and well trained pilots. I flew Philippine airlines airbus 350 from South Korea, pilots are the best.
I met the 1st officer of this flight.. just today it was an honor and happy to meet him 😃👍👍🤟
Whose here after the Boeing 777 (RP-C7775) of the same airline made an emergency landing
Mark Dwight Tadina me
Truth
Ako
@YYpang 😂
In the same airport
It's not important what nationality the pilot is,what is important here is he displayed an awesome skill in landing the plane and saved about 400 lives.
The Pilot is from suriago del norte good job
wow. Amazing pilot. I want to be like that someday
wow wow surigao del norte
OMG. This was the very plane that took me back home to the Philippines a few hours ago (we arrived Sun August 28, 8 am Philippine time). I didn't know that it had TWO blown tires, nobody from LAX or PAL explained to us what was going on. I commend the PAL pilot and crew team for their great work, but I would've also greatly appreciated LAX telling us why our original boarding time of Fri August 26, 10:30 pm was changed to Sat August 27, 2 am.
Thought always delayed but Im proud of our Carrier Airlines (PAL ), they always see that their passengers are safe....10 Thumbs for the PILOT and Crew.
PAL pilots are awesome💪💪💪Who came here after the PAL B777 engine failure?👇👇👇
Me yall!
Parang favorite ng PAL mag emergency landing sa LAX😂.

I first went to the Philippines in 2001 on a Philippine airlines Airbus A340 four engine jet
It was a really nice flight
On the way home I was on a Boeing 747 400 and Oh my God what a different experience , when you take off in a 747 you feel those huge powerful engines and a tremendous force of thrust as we climbed at a really steep angle , That big jet has so much power and is so much faster than the Airbus , infact the A340 felt underpowered compared to the 747
I really loved flying on 747s
I always felt safe , it was really a nice airliner
Then in 2016 when my son was born in the Philippines
I took a China southern flight on the huge A380 airliner
That huge behemoth of an airliner with the biggest jet engines in the world was just incredible on takeoff
Because of the huge amount of thrust from those giant engines and the huge amount of lift from those giant wings that airliner on take off just wants to go right up in the sky like nothing , it is a joy to fly in the A380 , powerful and tremendous lift , it feels big inside but the plane feels very light weight
I love that big beast
But the Philippine airlines flights on 747s were always the best the way the captain takes off and you go up at a steep angle skyward
I'm really sad about the airlines not using these 4 engine jets anymore
They are going to two engines to save on fuel , I understand
But nothing was safer and more powerful than having four engines with plenty of thrust available if needed
I really can't understand why Airbus is not making the A380 anymore ? No customers
That airliner isn't even that old
There are some routes still using 747s and A380s though
Like going to the middle east
And Australia routes which makes sense
I'm not sure if Philippine airlines still uses 747s
I know China southern is still using their A380s
It was always fun to fly on Philippine airlines because their Captains are bad ass pilots and it was a thrill going fast and almost straight up on take off out of Manila
You can't do that in a big twin engine jet , they feel weak compared to a big 4 engine 747
And to even be a 747 pilot you are the best in the world
Philippine pilots are some of the most professional and highly trained pilots in the world , it's always a joy to fly in Philippine airlines
And China southern airlines
wow watching back to what happened to me....proud of those pilots that helped me stay alive💚
Is it a smooth landing out there? Even the tires have blown?
Are you inside
We’re u on there
Well done to the pilot and crew for keeping your cool under pressure and keeping everyone safe!
I was one of those passengers on that flight, I was with my mom and I was just eight years old back then when we went to visit our relatives in LA. But during that flight all the passengers inside, didn’t know that we were having landing problem I guess they don’t want us to panic. But actually, we didn’t know that we have a landing problem. Actually, the flight landed really smooth. The funny thing is, we didn’t even know that we have a landing problem until we all got out of the airplane, then we realize we’re on the road still in the runway getting out in the airplane and then we don’t usually use shuttle bus to get to the airport because you know we have those connecting tubes through the airport, so I guess they didn’t want us to get close to the other airplane if something really bad happens during our landing so we stay there to the open floor I guess so that if we ever didn’t make it the other flights, wouldn’t got to go through that. we are very lucky how smart our flight crew because if we weren’t for them i guess I wouldn’t be in college now.
Bravo to KCAL News 9! the best coverage of all newsbreak , every moment was reported in details.

Most of the PAL pilots are former Philippine Airforce pilots. Well trained 👏👏👏.
Thess Real true 🇵🇭
Talaga namang napakagaling ng mga pilot natin pag dating sa international flight Wala ka talaga naramdaman na nag landing na pala.lalo na flight to London and LAX
Pilots got some mad skillz. o.o
It was just a deflated tire. It wasn't really that much of a dangerous issue.
Pilots are hero’s.
number 2 engine didn't reverse thrust. Filipino Pilots are awesome Pinoy pride :)

@lieutenantAK : Agree :) And our planes are not highly-sophisticated too, which means Filipino pilots are very skilled in manual flying.

Congrats to all filipino crew spicialy pilots of phil.airline 747
Good job PAL!
Is this the same fleet that made an emergency landing @ the Sapporo Intl. Airport? If it was, that plane needs an overhaul of sorts.
KUDOS to the pilots who took control of this flight. Superb landing!
Why Filipino pilots are very good in smooth landing? I hope they don't have rough salaries!

Philippine pilot is the best.
Thank God! 😭
CHICKEN ADOBO WITH RICE 🍚!!.. 🤣✌🏻
Thank god they are all safe!!.. 🙏🏻
GO PHILIPPINE AIRLINES!!!!!!!!
@sablo75 Blown tires is a result of a debris from the runway being runned over by the plane upon its take off. Not the fault of local aero mechanics...
PAL pilots one of the best in the airline industry!!!!!
Which is somehow true :P
Mabuhay Pilipinas :D
Great! Thanks for the information! PAL should be flown by Filipino pilots (I think).
TOUCHDOWN!!!!
FACT: Filipino pilots are considered as ONE of the BEST pilots in the world. They go through intensive training, they practice at short runways to name one is Honolulu International Airport...the best ones
@stobodort Aug. 27 Saturday Morning (Manila Time). According to one of the passengers on board PR102, pilot didn't announce that the 747's having landing gear problems (surprisingly, Anabelle Rama was on the flight). Passengers knew something went wrong when they saw fire trucks and paramedics on the runway.
after setting the main gear down it looks like held the nose up to help slow down
nice job by the pilot
+david lewis good thing Boeing designed this aircraft smartly
actually they did that not to slow down the aircraft but because they reported that gear to be malfunctioned. they lit the light up so that the ground crew can see it and report to the pilots if it really is broken. they report back to him that its ok, so they touch it to the ground. i believe they can slow the aircraft with using reverse thrust im not 100% sure because im not a pilot.
I am sad here because they replaced this plane, JUSTICE FOR PHILIPPINE AIRLINES 747
GOOSEBUMPS! THanks to the pilots' presence of mind!
for me the most amazing pal pilots did was that cocpit bombing in 1995 that pal pilots were able to land safely in okinawa I belived even though part of the plane was disable
I was on this flight, but I was only 6 so I hardly knew what was going on, but my cousins and siblings were scared to death.
whoever that pilot is..... job well done for your unbelievable skills...passenger's safety really relies on you....
FILIPINOS ARE WELL-TRAINED !! :))
Kudos to all Filipino pilots.
The Difference of PAL's involvement in LAX
B747 : Landing Gear
B777 : Engine
Philippines 102 is safe good job! the pride of the flag carrier!
thanks GOD ligtas lahat sila .
GoodJob the best pinoy pilots!:)
galing yung pilot kahit pilipino kami :3
SHET.. that's very nice... :D
we are very proud to be a Filipino!!imagine you save 420 lives?i want to congratulate the captain for a job well done.even they getting a rough salaries. We are still concern on the safety of our people.not for money...:)
@sablo75 uu! kasi pinoy sya hehehe! pilot din po ako, pero masyado pa kong malayo sa mga narating ng mga airline pilots natin.. nakaka inspire lng mka panuod ng mga ganito.. ^^, Great job CAPT. EFREN ENVERGA!
Good job proud pilipino
sana naman matapos na ang problema ng PAL/ Palea...i salute all pilots and crew members of our nation's flag carrier...
@heartbleedsgreen Nobody announced it to the passengers who were on the plane, and to the waiting passengers at LAX like us (who had to wait around 12 hours for this).
Ang galling ng pilots
@HeroshiKurashiwa your'e partly correct when you said we have good pilots. we may.. or may not.. but again, FAA does not only look at pilot skills in judging category. there's kind of planes used, new or factory refreshed, etc. and standards an airline should pass (does ISO sound familiar to you?). Google "British Travel Advisory Website" and look for Philippines. Under travel summary, read Bullet 5. British Gov't is warning their people to avoid flying with Philippine-certified airlines
@bucai1315 - Finally! Someone who uses their brain than their mouth when making comments. Some people won't just get what you just said.
Well what would you expect? FILIPINO Pilots are the best. Filipino ang pinakamatalinong tao sa mundo. that's very TRUE
Registration : RP-C7473
The plane involved was PAL's last 747 to be retired
@rapamano Just so you know, too; there are no foreigners on the PAL's roster of pilots.
Fact "most of ph airlines pilots are former well trained ph air force" :)
magaling ang mga pilots natin.... napaganda take off and landing....
Dko alm kung nasusunod pa ba to ngayon. Ang balita ko po kasi dito sa pinas bago ka maging commercial airliner pilot at bgo paswelduhin ay kailangan mong magkaroon ng 1500 flying hours samantala ang sa amerika ay 250 flying hours lng
I always fly PAL from YVR to Manila.. Besides typhoon delays, all flights have been awesome and smooth. Great job by the pilot here!
