The current PAL livery is almost 40 years old but still is relevant today and looks really good. There is something about its simplicity that makes it really pleasing to the eye.

The plane actually still exists but mostly its for cargo planes
Never ride in Pal Boeing 747 400 but I rode in Delta Airlines Boeing 747 400 from the Philippines to Usa since 2013 akala ko Pal lang ang nagretire ng kanilang B 747 pero yun pala maging ang ibang airlines gaya ng Delta,United,Klm at probably British Airways ayun niretire na din nila yung kanilang B 747 ang meron nalang na B 747 as passenger plane palagay ko lufthansa kaso B 747 800 naman yun ibang 747 ginagamit nalang as cargo plane gaya ng Cargolux or Ups mga ganun sayang maganda pa naman ang 747 lalo na yung pagkadesign yan ang gusto sa 747 may 2nd floor sayang rinetire daw kasi luma na at malakas daw sa gas may tinanong ako isang pilot kasi sa airport ako nagwowork eh bilang aircraft cabin cleaner kaya ayun nakakalungkot pero kailangan talaga iretire.

The Short 360-300 was called Sunriser during those days. First plane I rode when I was a kid back in the 80s.
Here's one fun fact: Philippine Airlines actually had a hand in the establishment of Japan Airlines, when it leased a DC-3, later to be named "Kinsei" for that airline to start up its operations.
PAL planes look so neat compared to others here at Changi Airport.
I'm still mad about the retirement of the 747-400
as well as the A340
Very sad but PAL had plans to retire then as they got more fuel efficienct aircraft.
But why did they retire the 747 tho? Does more seats/more passengers= more profit?
747 is too old and not fuel efficient
Maintenance is the reason why they had to retire since it operates four engines
@@madaviation7013 Wait cant boeing just use their modern technolodgy and make a super fuel efficent boeing 747? After all they are almost done makeing the 777X So why not use the tech from the 777X to make the new 747 aircraft And that the 747 will stay with us for longer and since the 747 has lots of seats the airline can get lots of profits from the seats/passengers while also saving money so its a win win for the airline.
Thank you retired fleets PAL.. Memories remain.. You gave happiness to those voyagers landed and take off.. All are safety.. We love PAL..
Nice video; thanks for sharing. I grew up in Manila in the 50s, and the pictures of both the Viscount and the DC-3 bring back many fond memories: the Viscount between Manila and Hong Kong; the DC-3 from Manila to Baguio. (At that time, PAL had put all their international routes except for the Hong Kong run in abeyance; and as a kid, I found the descent into Baguio to be thrilling.)

Im lucky i flew my first a340 of pal before it retired we were supposed to have an a330 back to manila from bangkok but its a full flight so we upgraded to an a340 in 2018

Not just in Southeast Asia, but in Asia as a whole. Hell, Japan Airlines actually owes its existence to PAL, when it leased a DC-3 to JAL to start up its operations.

There is an error in this list as to the years of service . The DC 10 retired in 1996 . I flew on that aircraft regularly in the 1980,s and early 90,s .
Any way I just saw someone else corrected it.

Well I do not know exactly where all PAL aircraft go to retire but if some were going to be sold it would be cheaper than the original price PAL got it
Except for a few planes, usually PAL does not buy planes. They lease them. Many of the planes of PAL today are leased from airline companies like Singapore Airlines and other big airlines who continuously upgrade their fleets, and lease out their older planes to "smaller" airlines. Some PAL planes I know were scrapped like the BAC 111 which was gutted and sold for junk.

@@madaviation7013 Some of them is just left to rot, just see PAL 747 in an Airplane Junkyard, Sam Chui had pictures of a non-existent rotted, no logo PAL B747-200 or 300.

it was actually part of the fleet! I didnt know that sorry for that not being included here. but I think PAL only had a small amount of them thought and some were probaly leases

Philippine Airlines don't necessarily need a 737 MAX and a320 neo at the moment because the A320 ceo and a321 neos are sufficient on the short-mid haul routes at the moment. They could order either one of them if demand gets higher
