For me, School of Rock is the quintessential feel-good movie
Absolutely!
Sister Act 2 was better 🤷♂️
I watched it recently, and I credit my amazing childhood to that movie alone.
ABSOLUTELY my fav film of all time
mean girls and school of rock are my top 2 for sure
if you watch this video backwards he actually just recommends tenet 5 times
bro i know appearance doesn't matter but those long wavy locks of yours are fucking glorious
thanks for the good vid
Charlie I was just going to comment something about this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Jack’s hair like that and it looks really good
Agreed.
No jack howard video is complete without a mention of tenet.
I’m fairly certain that The Martian fills that incredibly niche little crevice of ‘feel-good disaster movies’ and I adore every second of it.
i agree. the martian's screenplay is so underated honestly. While most sci fi movies have boring exposition, the martian made it quite hilarious!
I think it’s the disco music ngl
I've listened to the entire 10 hour audiobook of the martian at least 10 times. Hard recommend, it is even better than the film somehow.
@@EightTobiins the book is so good! I was also surprised at how detailed it is from a scientific view point. Do you happen to know other books similar to that? I need recommendations
@@arunmunagala8333 ugh, no not really. I'm obsessed with it and I really haven't found anything to match it for me! I will say the art of fielding is another one of my favourite books I've read multiple times. It's about sports and it's sadder, but damn if it doesn't hit me in the feels and make me want to re-read it. Plus there are the classic sci-fi ones like enders game and of COURSE hitchhikers guide to the galaxy (and all the other books in the collection)
The films:
1. 0:54 Palm Springs (has Andy Samberg - about a guy and a girl are stuck in a time loop)
2. 1:37 The American President (not an old stuffy political drama) (special sneaky recommendation: When Harry met Sally)
3. 2:41 Booksmart (sounds like a sweet movie, directed out of shit by Olivia Wilde)
4. 3:50 Logan Lucky (has the bond guy & adam driver and there's people who don't know what they're doing, heisty)
5. 5:13 Big Fish (A story about stories)
Not every hero wears “the hero outfit”! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you, @MiaRuna!
Almost Famous and About Time are probably my ultimate feel good movies.
about time is SO good and its just so lovely!
AHHHHHH nobody ever talks about Almost Famous and it’s my favorite movie ever so thank you
About Time is wonderful.
Big Fish, to me, is a love letter to storytelling, to cinema.
Big Fish makes me snot cry. But in a good way. But in a very snotty way.
Also have been thinking of rewatching Palm Springs and this made that a tonight thing.
Booksmart and Palm Springs are two movies I keep coming back to again and again. My personal favorite feel-good movie is Crazy, Stupid Love. It’s just too good and David Lindhagen is such a good name to curse on a bad day.
Crazy , Stupid Love for sure is one of the movies I've rewatched the most. I need a David Lindhagen quote from the movie on a t-shirt!
jack is slowly transforming into steven spielberg and i am personally happy to encourage this quarantine lewk
I absolutely love Chef. First time I saw it and the many rewatches after. Just the mix of beautiful food, music and the story of the dad and son, makes me feel like it's summer :)
Agree!👍
I love Chef too! It’s a film where good things keep happening and there’s barely any conflict. Love it.
Watched Pride (2014) last night and it's absolutely beautiful. I'm literally still feeling the warmth in my heart from it.
I have 3 feel good movies that tread between comforting and tragically cathartic:
-Pride & Prejudice (2005), it's just comforting like a warm hug. It's a basic but beautiful movie and idk I think an underrated component of it is that it captures the chaos of having sisters in a very authentic way. I like it better as a movie than as an adaptation, and have rewatched it a million times.
-Vai (2019), which is hard to explain but was the first film I ever saw that reflected something true about being an Indigenous woman back to me, I saw it in 2019 at a film festival with some friends and we bawled the entire time
-the OG Muppets Movie, maybe my sense of humor is broken (?) but it's a delight every time
Matthew Macfadyen walking through that misty field with that beautiful soundtrack playing is like the epitome of comfort imo hahaha
can i just say, we are in agreement on your thoughts about andy samberg's face.
Just watched booksmart off of your recommendation, absolutely LOVED it, what a fantastic movie!! thank you
Big Fish is one of my favorite movies ever. Thank you for the love for Big Fish Jack
I looked at the video on my recommended, and my mind just went...'Palm Springs.' and as I hovered over the thumbnail, that exact movie appears. Great minds.
Post-watching all of The West Wing, I really gotta get on watching An American President. *My* go to feel-good movie (and I'll say it a thousand times) is The Way, Way Back. I just love it so much. Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph, Steve Carrell - it's just the sweetest film. Fuck it, might go watch it now.
Been watching your content for years, thanks for the recs!
If you haven't seen the Disney Pixar film Soul yet please give it a go! I felt really seen through experiencing that movie and it was so nice to watch a gorgeous animated joint that tackles such huge abstract concepts. The way scary serious themes of purpose and meaning are unwound through that medium is poetry. There is no romance in Soul but I fell in love!
I love “The way way back”. It’s so wonderful!😍
Literally scouring RUclips for feel good movies and this comes up in my feed. Thank you, Jack Howard!
Love all of this - simple and to the point and sweet. Great vid!
Thank you, Jack. Genuinely! I needed a list like this!
Literally saw that Booksmart was on Netflix earlier today; I was contemplating watching it tonight and that's been fully cemented now!
Oh this was just lovely and feel-goody. Thank you!
not entirely sure these all count as "feel-good" but they make me ... feel ... good? alright well:
the princess bride. just a classic. peter falk? yes please.
jojo rabbit. a weird one to call "heartwarming" but that resolution at the end with heroes by bowie just really simply lovely
isle of dogs? i just like dogs to be honest
fantastic mr fox. again. just pretty lovely to be honest. the film itself just feels warm.
and another weird one: hot fuzz?? i love the connection edgar wright creates between you and the characters in an absolutely stupid movie, there was no need to make me cry with the scene of danny and nick arguing by the car in the red light
(please do come back to this on the podcast, loved this week's ep :D)
Jack, I’m watching Booksmart now and it’s indeed awesome and uplifting - thanks for the rec!
super appreciate this video, I am genuinely so excited to check out the films on the list I haven't seen.
This is exactly what I needed right now thank you
I have literally just watched Zodiac for the first time and this comes up. Thanks for the perfectly timed video.
Edit: Great I'm now going to watch logan lucky on prime!
Whenever I had a sick day growing up I would always watch Shallow Hal. Idk why but something about watching Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow whilst I was curled up on the sofa eating tomato soup was the only thing that could make me feel better.
No Paddington? Oh, Jack. How could you?
Listen to the Kermode On Film podcast :)
@@JackHoward You're on the Kermode on Film podcast? Should have mentioned :)
@@deffonotluke Ha!
Great timing. I've been using your recos to decide what to watch with my partner. I'm about done with thrillers tbh. Thanks for doing these!
My comfort movies:
Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Hercules, The Lizzie McGuire movie, La La Land, Paddington, Mama Mia 2, When Harry met Sally, toy story 3, The breakfast club, Roma, about time, The nice guys
Eddie the Eagle is my go-to feel good movie!
Yes! Palm Springs!!! I’ve watched it like two dozen times and is such a good comfort film you can go back to often. there are so many good little Easter eggs, so you notice something different every time 🥳🥰
I pretty much only watch 'feel good films' so rlly appreciate this list 💞
You and your videos are so charming! You are the best Jack.
Thank you so much for recommending Palm Springs...music on repeat!
I watched booksmart last night after you suggested it in another video and i absolutely love it
Always a good day when there a Jack Howard video to watch 🥰
Scott Pilgrim is 100% on my list
Some of my favorite feel-good movies are: Crazy, Stupid Love; Lalaland; Ferris Bueller's day off; The Breakfast Club; Sing Street; Love actually, and The Lego Batman Movie
For me, Studio Ghibli films are my go-to feel good movies. Very warm feelings whenever I get the chance to watch them.
Except Cave of the fireflies, ultimate feel bad movie
My neighbour Totoro will forever be my favorite film, nothing else can compair
@@somersetjones eh, to be honest, Grave of the Fireflies didn't affect me that much. I know a lot of people who say they cry their eyes out every time. And, I can see why. I mean war time is terrible and I felt bad for the main character and his sister, but I didn't find the story compelling and had a hard time relating with the main character.
@@justaglassbutterfly7989 it's a great one ^^
Happy Birthday Jack.
The way way back, Chef, October Sky - definitely recommend these
Literally discussing Booksmart last night with my housemates (its my choice for my birthday film night) and i described it as Suoerbad, but you don't laugh at the characters. You laugh with them, because this film makes you love them.
You already got me at the 45th sec with that “Bazzinga”! 😃🤓 I totally love TBBT, and of course, Sheldon! ❤️🥸
1st of all: yeah, it was already worthy it! I haven’t seen BOOKSMART! 😳😳
Well, JACK: I just came across your channel, cause I was exactly looking for something to warm my heart a little and I have no idea at all of how on Earth I ended up here in your video... but guess what?? It’s exactly what I needed!!! 🤩🤩🥳🥳
Tks a bunch and my warmest regards, here from Brazil!
You just reminded me to watch booksmart and it didn't disappoint. A real feel good watch and funny too. Also loved palm springs
Watched Logan Lucky during the first Lockdown, was absolutely brilliant
I loved Palm Springs! Had no idea what to expect as a friend brought it round for a movie night, and honestly couldn’t predict where it was going at any point, but laughed the whole way through! It does make you think afterwards, too!
LOVE that you included Logan Lucky, that's one of my freakin FAVES!!!
Damn i've been meaning to watch Booksmart but i didn't know it's considered a feelgood film. Guess i really have to watch it now....
My feelgood recommendations off the top of my head are Little Miss Sunshine and Coco. While LMS especially can be heartbreaking at times i just can't watch these without having a big dumb grin on my face as soon as the credits roll
I've not seen a single one of these, looking forward to making my way through them.
LOVE feel-good/slice-of-life stuff.
Not a movie, but Ted Lasso was the most feel good thing I have watched in a long time. I found myself literally grinning through the whole thing.
Big Fish is my favorite Tim Burton film too!! happy to see it getting some love
thanks for the video, FilmBoyWhoTellsYouAboutWhatFilmsAreGood!! i'm the person who hasn't seen booksmart yet but given my city has JUST gone into lockdown (after 10 months of no community transmission 🙃) i think it's finally time to watch it
nothing could make my sunday night better than a new Jack Video
Amelie , when Harry met Sally , Sleepless in Seattle , The before trilogy .... My comfort movies 😍
Lovely content as always Jack ❤️
I finally watched booksmart thanks to this video and it's genuinely now one of my all time favourite films!
I absolutely love big fish. Cried for hours after watching it for the first time, such a beautiful story
Okay I just have to add: The American President is partially what inspired Aaron Sorkin to write The West Wing, which is one of my favorite series of all time.
Also if you need a feel-good series, please watch West Wing. I absolutely love it.
I have weekly film nights with my best friend in the USA over FaceTime. We both need this, thank you!
i haven't seen Booksmart and now I'm going to watch it tonight, so thanks for that, Jack !!
I watched Book smart last night and I thank you greatly for bringing it into my life cause i think its my new favourite.
I watched Palm springs and instantly wanted to watch it again & I completely agree love the crazy concept of being stuck in a time loop and doing nothing with it.... Feels a bit close to home atm
I just saw Palm Springs yesterday and i loved it!
Great recommendations and really clever placement of the Surfshark sponsor ;)
You got me to watch book smart when you first talked about it and I went into that expecting to be not really be paying attention and it was fantastic you DEFFO Have to give this a go
Paddington 2 is essentially a warm hug in film form
i went into this expecting to find something new to watch (and i think i did) but ended up tearing up at the snippets of the big fish trailer (it is my absolute favourite film of all times). thank you for a great list!
Palm Springs was so wonderful I finally got around to watching it and it was so brilliant
Ohhh I'm definitely gonna rewatch Big Fish tonight. Thanks for reminding me that that masterpiece exists!
My go to feel good films are The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Hector and the Search for Happiness. I always get the good sigh when watching them
Was hoping for a list of films to watch, turns out I've seen all of these already but they are BRILLIANT
Needed this so badly
Hi there filmboy, loved this video and the podcast. My personal additions to the makes you feel all gooey inside list would be This Is Where I Leave You and Alan Partridge Alpha Papa. Thanks for the recs, Big Fish is one of my most watched and quoted films and I look forward to checking out Logan Lucky
Big Fish!!! I'm happy this is on here, it's one of my all time favourites!
My favorite feel good movie is ✨Unicorn Store✨. Watching it feels comforting, like a warm cup of tea during a winter storm or something. It's on Netflix worldwide I think :)
I absolutely adore Logan Lucky, glad you've given it some love. Great video as per
Love the family dynamics in Logan Lucky so much, mine might be Matilda, Labyrinth and maybe Little Miss Sunshine, re watching my childhood favourite makes me feel good
There’s a film called Fly Away Home that is one of my go to feel good, heartwarming picks.
I love how much you love Book Smart. Fully support.
The Big Fish Musical is one of my fave musicals as well and shows a lot of the emotion perfectly
Just checking back to tell you that this video inspired by to finally watch Booksmart today after seeing this, and holy SMOKES i am in loveeeeeeeeeee
Big Fish is probably my favourite film of all time, can’t wait to go and binge the rest later
Palm Springs was incredible! I completely agree with Andy, he just knows how to make a film warmly. The aesthetic & location was also awesome!
Something about Paddington 2 hits me on every single emotional level. I cry at the end EVERY TIME.
Must watch.
People have always judged me for saying Big Fish is in my top 10 films of all time, but it’s just so heartwarming. I’ve also rewatched Palm Springs throughout lockdown. Whenever lockdown gets particularly tough it cheers me right up. The podcast had mms also been great to listen to through lockdown, love the lists, the longer the better.
You've Got Mail and Moulin Rouge are my top two feel good movies!! I'll definitely have to give Booksmart a try
how did you know I needed this
Mine are:
Blues Brothers
My neighbour Totoro
Erin Brokovich
Bridget Joans Diary
Love Actually
my quintessential feel good movie is singin in the rain, in fact it’s my favorite movie of all time. every time i watch it i get a big stupid smile on my face that stays there the entire time. i’d also say jojo rabbit is a heartwarming film that is hilarious and tore me to shreds. and the most heartwarming show i could think to recommend is ted lasso on appletv+; it’s the definition of a feel-good show imo
I watched Logan Lucky on your recommendation and I have to say it's become one of my favourite films. The perfect heist film with heart.
Getting my flatmates to watch Booksmart was nerve wrecking moment. One of my top movies of all time - had to hold my tongue the whole way through watching it with them as I can quote the entire film.
Happy to report, they ADORED it.
Priceless (2006) with Audrey Tautou, beautiful film stock and lovely French time in gorgeous locations!
