I cannot stress this enough. Watch James Acaster’s stand up show ‘Repetoire’. Incredibly clever
I 100% agree. My favourite comedian by far-- super clever and hilarious.
Karoline Buhl UGH I LOVE THAT SHOW
K and E and a T and a T, E and an R and an I N G...
IT'S MY FAVOURITE THING EVER
People kept recommending it to me and I kept putting it off. Eventually buckled in to the pressure and now I'm a fan for life. What a great bit of stand up.

Thank you this is why I scrolled down to find this list
I really havent seen a single one of these
Thanks. I hoped someone had done this. Even though I have time this video is a complete waste to me.
I've seen most of the films on this list with a few exceptions
Prisoners is a really heavy watch. Good movie, I’d recommend to watch in the right mindset
I think Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in john mulaney and the sack lunch bunch is probably HIS BEST WORK
imo K jake was just himself there
There is music here, music there, music music everywhere 😂
Bro just put a damn list you talk too damn much lo e it but its annoying after a while🙄🤙
Excuse me, but did you SEE The Day After Tomorrow?!
😉
For sure.
About Time is available on Netflix and a really sweet story about time travel and cherishing your time and the people in your life
About Time gets me every single time ahhhhh
genuinely cry every time i watch it
one of my favorite movies of all time! the relationship between the dad and the son is so wholesome and lovely and that movie always makes me cry no matter how many times i watch it
Also Domhnall Gleeson kills in it.
imma watch
every time u were like "somebody here hasn't watched this" it was me. i watched 2 films in 2019. 2. no i haven't seen jaws or oceans 11
Luca, I'm almost jealous. You get to experience them for the first time.
@@JackHoward maybe i'll ignore my art coursework and have a film watching day :)
The only film on this list I've seen is Perks. Only Perks. I'm pretty sure I can COUNT the number of films I've seen
@@rosiepenguin i've seen perks! don't remember it tho bc it was at 3am and i'd been awake for like 3 days lol
I need to know, what were the 2 films??
10/10 bi lighting in this video
I'm surprised you didn't mention Daniel Sloss when talking about comedy specials, he seems right up your alley. He has two comedy specials up on Netflix called Jigsaw and Dark, I very much recommend them, although they require a "proper watch", but if I could only recommend you one of his comedy specials, I would recommend X, it's on HBO and I genuinely think all men should see it.
Erika Balogh yessss one of the best stand ups I’ve seen
YES
Couldn't. Agree. More. Possibly my favourite comedian out on the circuit at the moment. I got to see X live at the fringe festival, and it was a complete experience. So glad I did.
YES! X was amazing!
I want to watch X so badly, but I don't think it's available on the danish HBO site :(((
Proud of myself. I've seen exactly NONE of these recommendations...
Take this opportunity to tick a few off the list :) Whatever jumps out to you!
easy a?? perks of being a wallflower?? wow where have u been
Not even ladybird??? Come on Lauren! Saoirse Ronan is waiting for ya 😌
Where was Harry potter
I'm the opposite, I had seen pretty much everything on his list xD
Another TV series recommendation : Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (it's so good)
Niyati Shah Yes!
Just finished season 1. Super cool
there’s a series??? shit i love the books,, I’m gonna look it up right away!!
It’s in my top 5 shows of all time, I wish there was more :(
Can’t believe you managed to upload this the actual second that I started thinking what should I watch next 😂
Literally same, I was just about to ask people and then boom Jack
The stand up comedy section was seriously lacking some James Acaster!
Astyn Webb yesssss
Wad just gonna say
SPAG. BOWL.
Bo Burnham aswell
And some Daniel Sloss
Singing *my Corona* to the tune of My Sharona by The Knack
fran rose MY MY MY MY
All day long 😂
I just wanna thank Jack for educating us while we're in quarantine lol
To anyone looking to the comments for second opinions: I can vouch for jack and dean of all trades I've seen it all the way through probably 3/4 times lmao
My recommendation to you is Dark. Mind blowing storyline; beautiful cinematography; sensational soundtrack; unbelievable casting. What else could you ask for?
I've been meaning to get round to that one
Love this show
This show is incredible!!!!
SO GOOD
@@JackHoward you NEEED to watch it
Stand up comedy-wise, please watch Hasan Minhaj's homecoming king! It is so underrated and unique, one of those shows that makes you think and sucker punches you with a joke.
homecoming king is like HOME
was the mask of zorro just everyone’s sexual awakening then
looks like it
Allegedly there’s a bunny statuette hidden in every episode of Inside No. 9 - if you’re looking for more time to kill, find them all!
The Perks of being a wallflower is literally my favorite movie I always recommend it 🖤✨
yes! i found a "all about me" paper from 5th grade!!! and i put perks as my favorite movie!! damn 11 yr old me had TASTE
then again i prolly didnt actually understand all of it and also i prolly should have had more parenting growing up... haha
Same! I love the book so much too. The ending made me cry when I first watched it and the poem in the book made me cry too. The mix of joy and sorrow I felt watching it. I could rant for ages about how much I love it. (Especially the music).
MsRaffie underrated brilliance.
I can’t stop watching James Acaster’s Repertoire
Love the bisexual lighting! Also I haven't watched Jaws nor Ocean's Eleven and being a film student I should probably change that
Blocked and reported
@@JackHoward :(
Sam Manson I’m the same :(
“Bisexual lighting” lmfao
omg same boat!! hahaha
In the 'proper watch' category I ABSOLUTELY recommend 'DARK' on Netflix - a fantastic, cerebral foreign language series set against an 80s conspiracy background
When I was in University, my group watched Enemy, Prisoners, and Nightcrawler one after the other. We all became massive Jake Gyllenhaal fans. Also, we all pronounced his name differently and got into an argument until we watched THAT clip on Conan :).
0:20 idk why but the way you transitioned this really made me giggle
THANK YOU for mentioning ‘flowers.’ such a devastatingly beautiful and emotional show, criminally underrated.
I think James Acaster's repertoire is my favourite stand up ever. Definitely check it out if you haven't!
Great recommendations! I’m so glad you put Inside No 9 on there - my favourite TV show and vastly under-appreciated. I would also recommend James Acaster’s “Repertoire” for stand-up: it’s a 4 part series of stand-up specials that are super smart and super funny, they link together behind a fictional situation he’s been in (being an undercover cop, doing jury duty). HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Repertoire IS truly excellent.
So happy to see someone recommending Lovesick! It’s one of my favourite shows, and I feel like no one is watching it! Brilliant as always, Jack!
I love how you've split them into categories. I find it tough sometimes to pay attention to films (I find it tiring? not having anything else to do) and often get criticized for it ("why can't you just sit and watch something?"). So thanks for splitting them into categories so I know at least beforehand how much energy I need to put into each viewing. Cheers Jack! 💙
What Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It’s hilarious with great story telling and a very interesting story
So glad you mentioned perks of being a wallflower and 50/50 - love having a laugh and a cry at the same time
i love hearing people who are passionate about film and tv , talk about film and tv, it makes me feel so happy??
I think you'd like Daniel Sloss' stand up so here is my recommendation, under your recommendations... He has two live shows on netflix, puzzle specifically I love so much
Perks of Being A Wallflower is my all time favourite film that for some reason not a lot of people have seen and I have no idea why. Got a wide range of actors in it, a great story and just a feel good (most of the time) film that has an amazing soundtrack and makes you cry ❤️
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie recommendation video that’s mentioned Jaws before so THANK YOU. A fucking masterpiece and it frustrates me to no end when people I know refuse to watch it/pass it off as a ‘shark attack film’. The scene at night talking about their scars...gets me EVERY TIME
Loving this groovy lighting in the background
Okay but can we talk about how in The Mask of Zorro, whenever there’s an explosion or action, they just throw in some jaguar sounds?? It’s the best lol
yes yes yes yes yes jack talking about movies and shows is my fave type of jack content
cannot stress how amazing inside no. 9 and flowers actually is
I adore that everyone’s coming together to help us all stay sane during this time, so cheers for this Jack.
i was so surprised when you brought up the perks of being a wallflower, it’s my favourite film of all time for the characters and i feel more people need to watch it
yesssss, all of your videos are just so GOOD! consistency is nice to see at times like these
I'll be back soon :)
Thank you! 🙌 I'm a pharmacy student and haven't had free time like this in ages so I didn't know where to begin on Netflix.
Ha, just made a video with only travel movies but now I've gone through all of those and I needed some other good movies. Glad I've found this channel!
Jack I cannot thank you enough for this I was so bored and could not even begin to pick something from the wide selection we have so thanks!
Mask of Zorro I still have on VHS but was one I grew up watching regularly, back when you only watched what you had on video again and again and again. Such a good movie!
Love this! Thank youu Jack! 😇 Exactly what I needed and some solid recommendations there, especially basing it off the ones I have seen and loved that made the list! x
As always, Jack's film advice is the only film advice I will follow. Putting these on the list 👌
I remember fondly binging jack and dean of all traits
Thanks for this, Jack! Definitely love some of the picks on this list already. I’m 22 and had the same experience watching Lost in Translation maybe 5 years ago? Will definitely have to rewatch it now and see how I’ve changed in regard to it.
Thanks for the recommendations, I gotta be honest I haven’t watched Jaws yet so I’ll get onto that.
Wishing you the best Jack!
I just watched Perks of Being a Wallflower yesterday! Happy isolation film binging!
For the live comedy section you could also watch James Acaster Repertoire
Little fires everywhere is a BRILLIANT series to keep up with. Best series I've watched in a while! It's a brilliant series that revolves around two completely opposite families and the underlying reminder that one of the families ends up with their house burnt to ashes...
I already rewatched oceans 11. It’s one of my favorite movies to just go back to and watch over and over
My favourite easy watch will forever be Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Amazing cast, great genre mash, banging soundtrack.
As someone who wants to study film in September at college, this was really handy. Going to be watching these all over summer and self isolation 😂
I am so happy to see someone who appreciates the perks of being a wallflower. It’s so good and the author wrote the film’s screenplay so it is very accurate to the book (which makes me sob EVERY SINGLE TIME)
i have to get on to watching these! thanks so much for these, love this video jack!
Your accent is immensely comforting to me, thanks for this
wheyyy! glad you mentioned inside no 9!
I don’t know if you did it on purpose but that little bit for Nightcrawler about “a car crash you can’t help but watch” was just *chefs kiss*
Also I remember seeing The Social Network in theaters when it first came out and little 12-year-old me’s mind was completely blown
I actually gasped when you said Perks of Weing a Wallflower. It's so underrated so i never thought it would pop up here. It' s my favourite movie! Watching it with the cast commentary makes me cry even more.
I'm SO glad you're recommending Annihilation! It is such an underrated movie. It's definitely one of those films you can watch several times and always find something new. I love it.
I'm rewatching of Jack and Dean of All Trades then! Nobody can stop me!
Currently making my way through this list, havent seen any of these movies before. Loving it
thank you thank you thank you for mentioning flowers!!!! i absolutely adore that show and think it's criminally underappreciated, i urge everyone to watch it please
thanks for the inspiration! i can always rely on your recommendations :)
Jaws is arguably my favourite film. It’s so layered and fantastic- really recommend it. The music in it- the whole film- iconic. Went and saw a live orchestra while watching it- omg.
I’ve been NEEDING this mate, thank you so much
Another good film for the easy watch category is Begin Again (with Keira Knightly and Mark Ruffalo). Just a really feel good film with a great soundtrack that doesn’t overly rely on romance or comedy for its good vibes. Very chill, fun watch :)
this is so helpful tysm omg
Finally someone talking about Prisoners !!! I've watched it like probably 6 times. Everything is perfect, acting, directing, story, music just all around a 10/10.
No Bo Burnham recommendation? Anyone? Not just me right?
Oh you're not alone. I was quite surprised when he didn't mention Bo.
same here, especially when he wasn't in the "smart comedy" section
It's super interesting for me to see how your opinion about stuff I've seen coincides or differs from me. I think that's what I get the most out of your channel, just hearing a thoughtful and analytical series of opinions that I'm interested to hear. So, thanks!
i've watched so few of these so i am so keen to experience some new things for the first time
I still come back to jack and dean of all trades to this day. Amazing if ask me. If you Have alot of time on your hands its a must watch
The perks of being a wallflower is one of my all time favourites! I also love The blind side and The book of Henry, both are really amazing films that really make me emotional at times. Which the best kinds of films should in my opinion!
I would definitely recommend 'Simon Amstell - Set Free'. The right amount of vulnerability and pure sincerity that makes it more than just a stand up show.
also, Flowers is the best tv show I have ever watched, so so so so beautiful in a quite sad way.
You should do film commentary and react videos of singular films at the time, would be really interesting to see your opinions on specific scenes and shots!!
I'm so glad flowers and inside number nine were on this list, also I watched the social network the other day! That soundtrack 👌👌
JACK!!!! Missed youuuuuu
Perks of Being A Wallflower was a good movie, but the book was out of this world! Granted I haven't read it since it was about 15-16 but it's such an important story for people of that age, I will force my kids to read it and everyone at that age. It's a timeless tale of awkward teenage years and navigating your way and finding yourself through a generally really shitty time.
My list is nice and full now so thank you! I’d recommend Daniel Sloss’s comedy shows on Netflix, particularly Jigsaw, he talks about some very thought provoking stuff whilst keeping it pretty light hearted
i've seen all of these several times. they're the movies you keep coming back to because you know you won't be disappointed. tried and true :)
Good to see Extras getting a mention! I know it’s not exactly fashionable right now but I just finished rewatching it for about the sixth time and it’s still as hilarious as ever!
okay how did i not know we had the same favorite movie and very similar opinions on a lot of the movies you mentioned..
thank you for your service, jack x
thanks! i've been having a hard time finding movies worth watching. here, i'll drop a movie recommendation myself! Carol (2015). it's lesbian romance, drama. honestly, i hate romance, but this one, this one was something different. what drove me to watch it was because i read somewhere that the film really captured the emotion and atmosphere throughout the film. during the whole duration of the film, i felt like i was floating through space, with the faint worry of suddenly falling back to earth, that worry grows as the 'problem' becomes more prominent. then, at the end of the film, that worry disappears and i finally feel light floating through space. does that explain it? i dont know. but here; the film made me feel like i could relate to what the characters were going through and i love it, i really do.
just needed to explain it somehow, the movie really made me feel things, it was weird.
edit: i dont know if it's still on netflix :((
Jack and Dean of all trades is awesome. Seriously quality work. Was great to watch.
Thank you Rose
@@JackHoward Kinda wish I had waited to watch it now during quarantine than back then putting my assignments on hold. Not that I'd mind re-watching them. It still seems so fresh.
I dont know why but I feel like theres a missing episode of Marv and Emma rocking prison and a serious of iconic escape plans that actually fail in the end. Like Marv just chilling in prison, making friends and Emma has to pull her aside to make sure she's still in on their plan but their escape plans fail anyway and Emma's just like "eh. Prisons fine." And Marv's still happy cos she's got a great routine going on there.
Anyways. Stay quarantined. Keep safe.
Your categories are ~exactly~ right
love sick getting a shoutout caught me by surprise it's one of my favourite tv comedies!
More people need to watch Simon Amstell's specials he is amazing
i just watched erin brockovich again the other day after remembering the time i watched it in a high school law class. it’s SUCH a good movie! i’d watch it again right now!
thanks for telling me Jaws is on Netflix, was meaning to watch that one but didn't know it was on there.
Bless your soul for recommending _The Mask of Zorro_ . Love that film and it brings really fond memories in the forefront of my mind. ❤️
Thank you so much for suggesting Mike Birbigila. I’m having a hard time with my post traumatic stress disorder after thy e birth of my daughter and I cannot sleep as due the the lockdown my pharmacist cannot get my night meds ordered and yet I’m laughing so hard about the truth and hilarity of this! Wouldn’t have found it without you!!
Isn’t it just outstanding? All the best to you and your new daughter, Hannah!
Cool, I'll check out some of these!
Thank you! Really good recommendations!
I love this video!! like such good vibes :D
