      MJ Page there is something about the pace and tone of his voice that is therapeutic. I do not know him personally, not his face or age, but he is in my heart for all the nights I would have gone without sleep if not for his beautiful videos. Through the pandemic lockdown, the illness and death of my Charlie, my beloved grandchildren moving away; I watch and rewatch them. I am so grateful that we have them. I'm hopeful that your anxiety will calm. Many blessings to you MJ.

    Another lovely walk along the water is so very soothing, even if you don't find valuable relics, considering eye of the beholder and all that. Amazing to me is how the early industrializations stand silent of their own accord, being torn down by only roots and ivy.
    I often wonder how you keep track of all the projects you have in store; how you compartmentalize them without going mad (although I hear the best people are.)
    Seems lately details/projects I once called up at a moment's notice, are becoming overwhelming to just think about.
    There's a secret to it, I know...and you have conquered it.👍🏻

    It might take a bit of effort, but if you really wanted the mill trolly cart, you could tie a rope to it and drag it up to the top of the embankment. And perhaps a large wagon or wheelbarrow could help move it to the car. Would be neate to see you restore it, though.

    Happy New Year and many salutations Tom another soothing video. That ceramic insulator was a wonderful find I’m sorry you lost it bet it was what I call a oh doy moment.😮 hate it I’m sure you’ll find another some other time. Interesting pieces of old machine everything is as made so solid back in the past. Time and slow moving currents haven’t completely deteriorated the metal. I to live the flashes of lights and ripples in water. I used to I’ve near the river and loved to watch the flashes of light on the little minnows as they passed by. I had a neighbor with a domestic duck and a wild mallard bred with it and their babies loved to go floating downstream. They looked very strange intend. I’m sorry the invasive plants have taken over your UK waterways. I think in another you said our crayfish had somehow invaded there too somehow. We call them crawdads here. Be glad y’all don’t have kudzu that stuff just takes over everything .

    Because they were broken, they look different, but those insulators are all standard number 1 style ones. They are the shippams pot of the insulator world basically, so I wouldn't mourn them either unless they had odd markings. The smaller version of that style called a "queens" pattern is nicer. I have covid currently which is awful, but your videos are always soothing. If I ever get to Yorkshire, I'll help you lug some mill carts out. I like that flotation chamber too. That "brazing torch would make a good Star Wars blaster!

    • @tom_burleigh

      Star Wars blaster is a very cool idea, thanks Richard. Thanks also for the confirmation that the insulators weren't especially special. I hope you're starting to feel better, and that you aren't left with any long lasting symptoms.
      I doubt the mill cart is still there now, the river has been 1.5m higher than usual in the last few days, easily enough to carry it off downstream.... but, I'm sure there'll be finds I'll need help getting out again. 🙂

    Did you use a new piece of music in the background of this video? There was a piece I didn't recognize.
    It's a lovely river for wading. Too bad it wasn't more full of finds for you.

    The float reminded me of the dual carburetors on my MG. I had an MGBGT in germany and it had dual carburetors. I could sit and watch water flow over stones in a river for hours.

    I was going to say it looked like you had the components to make a steampunk lamp with the insulator as a base, the brass heater part as a stem, and the brass car part float as the shade for the bulb. Darn, too bad the insulator got dropped but stuff happens. It would have been neat to be able to make a lamp from the items all found from the same trip. Typing this as I am watching the video so maybe you will find another insulator farther down the stream.

    always super photography, your location is beautiful, my rivers are somewhat dry, but we do have one or two that are not, but because of venomous snakes would not go in them. I had one not long ago creeping up my stair, nasty viper, but I like snakes, it was more scared of me, it slithered away to our Baranco, which is Spanish for ditch, ours is meters high, but when the rain comes you can hear the water rushing by. And attracts mosquitos and toads.

    Tom! I confess I lay down very tired at the end of the day to watch(finally) the video, and the river sound mixed with your voice and guitar music soothed me so badly I was semi sleeping by the end of it!

    I was wondering if you could share some form o contact with me, as I was working in a little project you inspired me and wanted to share with you, if it interests you of course :)

    Talking of arches and mills, depends what type of mill? Or what it did, some mills as you probably know due to the industrial revolution turned to steam power, maybe it was where they had the turbines to turn the mill wheel, I´m only guessing, have no clue, maybe it was just decorative...

    Tom, thank you again for the lovely video. Looking at these rivers, I don't remember seeing turtles and it looks like a perfect place for them....do you not have turtles/terrapins there?

    • @tom_burleigh
      @tom_burleigh  2 года назад +1

      No, I don't think there are any freshwater turtles or terrapins native to the UK. There are ocean turtles that visit the coast. Plenty of other wildlife to see though, I watched a mink hunting recently. 🙂

    • @desertrose2059
      @desertrose2059 2 года назад +1

      @@tom_burleigh Thanks, I did not know that. I wonder why no freshwater turtles there. Do you have raccoons or possums?

    • @tom_burleigh
      @tom_burleigh  2 года назад

      @@desertrose2059 No, we have Foxes, probably the closest in behaviour to raccoons, nothing quite like possums. We also have Badgers, Rabbits, Hares, Pine Martens, Mink, Polecats, Wild Boar, and Otters.
      There was once a terrapin (the European Pond Terrapin), that was native to the UK, but it went extinct here about 8000 years ago, when the climate cooled, interrupting their egg incubation. They still live in much of Europe. The UK has lost quite a few native species, largely because of humans draining marshes, cutting down forests, and over hunting. We're only now starting to try to change some of the changed places back.
