Here in Canada, in about 1982, I loaded up some camping gear on my dirt bike and road up to the top of a mountain. I'd been up there before and there was an A frame cabin up there. It was built by the local ski club as a winter warming cabin. .. In the summer, nobody ever thought of staying in it except me. .. I stayed over night and it was amazingly beautiful. .. After that, I started camping up in the mountains 30 nights / year. .. I did animal tracking and ate wild berries, read books etc. .. Now that I'm too old to camp, the mountains are full of people having fun. .. From the Native people here, I learned to talk to wild animals. That's another story.

Well, shiver me timbers - @8:50 you turned into a disembodied spirit! How in the heck did they get building materials (besides stone) and furnishings way out there for the Bothy? 🤔 Strange that there were also other people out there! 😲
Did you not see the service road he was walking on through the majority of the start of this video? Did you miss the part where he said this was a decommissioned dam? And lack the critical thinking to follow along that _massive earth moving projects_ as such require large vehicles for hauling and construction? And continued maintenance for the waterworks infrastructure? 🙄
there is an excellent little book all about the building of the dam and the people who built it,the narrow gauge railway laid to bring in building materils etc very readable its titled "stone & steam in the black mountains" by David Tipper@@lucasottens8506

That's a gorgeous area. It's nice how it goes from forested to sort of craggy high plains.
It's surprising that dam is less than 100 years. In my are anything that big with cut stone is going to be 160 years at least.
@@HanzBlitz-i8t It's possible that the whole area was forested before the dam was built. I don't know for sure though.
@@80skidoutdoors-00 It does have a bit of a strip mine appearance or from logging.

@80skidoutdoors-00 Very much so. Look forward to making my way through your back catalogue.
@@JimmyPeaTV It's a short back catalogue lol, I only started this channel in September. I did another Bothy in the Highlands to start with that you might like 👍
@@80skidoutdoors-00 I'm hoping to join the RUclips ranks myself mate. I'm disabled and thought my hiking days were over, but looking to do my own thing and show others that with a bit of kit modification a day hike is still possible 😉👍
@JimmyPeaTV Sounds awesome! Good luck mate 👍
Nice little dogs
It's a nice location, 20 years ago, when fishing the reservoir we always had lunch in the bothy when raining
Looked cosy in there though.

@@Minnesotaqueen1969 Thank you
If you have to blame someone, it's always Pete. It's him who contaminated the reservoir again. Goddamn Pete!
Nice place. What sleeping bag did you use !?

Hey from Texas USA & like your little furry friends
Well, shiver me timbers - @8:50 you turned into a disembodied spirit! How in the heck did they get building materials (besides stone) and furnishings way out there for the Bothy? 🤔 Strange that there were also other people out there! 😲
Probably used a land rover
Did you not see the service road he was walking on through the majority of the start of this video?
Did you miss the part where he said this was a decommissioned dam? And lack the critical thinking to follow along that _massive earth moving projects_ as such require large vehicles for hauling and construction? And continued maintenance for the waterworks infrastructure?
🙄
there is an excellent little book all about the building of the dam and the people who built it,the narrow gauge railway laid to bring in building materils etc very readable its titled
