Have always preferred Charge Point stations. So far every fast charging station I have charged at has Chademo and always works.

In my two years of Tesla ownership, I've done a lot of trouble-free Level 2 AC charging on ChargePoint chargers at hotels and retail stores using my trusty NACS to J1776 adapter. It will be nice to leave the adapter in my frunk in the future.

Walter @ The Network Architect just reported that ChargePoint has installed TWENTY-SEVEN (27) NEW chargers THIS WEEK. Bravo to CP. 👊👍

ChargePoint was the first public charging provider I ever plugged into -14 years ago. It's good that we're moving toward connector standards, although I can predict that their stalls will now be more occupied by Teslas than ever before.

I have had good experiences with ChargePoint, mainly level 2, but the fact that they aren't responsible for servicing them tends to make me stay away. You never know what you will get and there is no accountability. It's just the individual location problem. Not a fan of that model.

You stole my question (charging older Teslas) Francie, nice job. I am not convinced it is a software issue or else it would probably would have been addressed OTA already. But nice thinking until all manufacturers switch to NACS ports.

Has this been physically tested with a Cybertruck that has a clearance issue with the fender and the currently available adapters.

Will this "void or challenge" the warranty of Tesla, Rivians and Fords, like you suggested on your last podcast about aftermarket adaptors for Tesla Superchargers?

I like the name “omni port” but I feel like this will not age well based on their current level 2 units and how they wear 😅

This just seems like a ChargePoint Ad with their “Solution” looking for a Problem. People will still have to carry their own adapter if these aren’t installed everywhere.

Are these going to show up on the Tesla navigation apps in the cars? Would be good to see if Tesla's can navigate to them and precondition and be part of the travel plan where it fits.

They are great until they break and then when you call CP customer service you are SOL because it is not CP’s problem thanks to the CP business model. I have been nearly stranded many times (in my 2015 e-Golf) and have stayed away from CP DCFC as much as possible. Even when CP owns the DCFC station , as they do in CA thanks to state funded DCFC corridor charging, the customer service people give the same tired “CP doesn’t own the station” answer. So frustrating.
Have an interview with CP about why they can’t have high reliability at DCFC stations in CA that CP owns, please.

When can we ditch all these stupid apps and just tap with a credit card like a gas station?

ChargePoint has a negative image problem because so many of the operators who install them do not fund repairs. These dispensers remain broken or poorly performing and EV drivers blame ChargePoint because that’s the only name we see.

Built in obsolence...50% of all vehicles are Teslas...Still have to monkey with a clutzy app...
Another point of failure...Not plug and charge...

Until Tesla builds these stations into the navigation, the majority of Chargepoint’s actual customers will drive non-Teslas. Also this is the same concept as Magic Dock which seems to work well with Tesla. A near term benefit is also that these cables are 500 amp liquid cooled cables while NACS non-Tesla cables currently max out at 400 amps.

Why are you limiting yourself with just Tesla? There are so many slower chargepoint dc unit closer to urban and sit down dining amenities.

I don’t see any advantage for AC charging because every Tesla is equipped with a J1772 adapter and all Tesla owners know how to use it. But, this is handy for CCS DC Fast chargers.
Retrofits will be rare due to ChargePoint’s horrible sales model. Very few of their customers will buy the retrofit because there’s no return on their investment. I’ve run into so many broken or very poorly working CP dispensers and operator refuses to fix it.

Charge-Point Level-2 destination charges are easy to use when they are working. But here in Reno, Nevada,
there are no Charge-Point Level-3 Fast Chargers for public use. BUMMER.

This is great so drivers don't accidently leave the charger without returning the adapter they borrowed.
