We got a VF8 plus from the same dealer less than a month ago and we are at version 18 on our software. We love it, getting the home charger installed tomorrow.
This was so nice in a number of ways… Mainly just that these folks sniffed out the brand, did some research and made their own decisions and managed to roar trip it with no major issues. So many people will have the same experience. They just need to get in an EV and try it. 👍🏻 Thanks again Francie for another great Episode
Love Larry and Judy from Francie’s podcast then in January, and even more so now for your honest and constructive feedback. Glad your VF8 is almost glitchy free. Yes the latest update Firmware FRS 9.6.1.18 on my VF8 saved user settings. My VinFast navigation also missing the voice, and Alexa won’t close all windows.
Judy and Larry were great and they both seem very intelligent and it's awesome they were willing to try something new. Very good information on their experience and with each bit of information Francie was gushing more and more over her missing Vinfast. A dealer opened up near me and I checked out the vehicle about a month ago it was pretty cool.
I just love seeing some variety in EVs. I’m getting to drive VF 9 on Thursday so I’m looking forward to that Hopefully they can get OTA‘s working and continue with the updates to refine things.
The main thing is to just give new Vinfast a chance by test-driving it as Vinfast is really client oriented and willing to listen to its customers and improve the car as much and as quick as possible. Vinfast is a part of the bigger group and they are there to stay. Vinfast is the first high-tech brand of Vietnam so the Vinfast owner promises to take all his effort and money to develop his cars and put Vietnam on the world technological map. Their car development philosophy is to make their car EV but to look as ICE car as much as possible. And it is proved in a very short time.
To Judy and Larry: -to still enjoy sunroof during the rain, you’d have to disable auto windshield wipers which defeats the purpose of wipers during the rain. Hopefully, they’ll address this with updates. -VF native navi system doesnt hv voice anymore. Initially, it did have voice aka “hey vinfast”. After some updates, VF decided to only keep alexa for voice command. Either google maps or carplay would do the job for voice guidance. -every car manufacture advertises their 100% range, so it’s the norm that VF advertises thay way. -i find that using Auto AC is more efficient, and the fan doesnt run as loud with both of my VF8s. All you’d need to do is adjusting temp, fan speed will auto adjust. -9.6.1.18’s lane keep assist setting is saved whether you set it to warning or off. -agree. Canadian folks do have sw update quicker than us. -remote control: might be a signal issue. Here in CA, i could climate control/lock/unlock car. Btw, there is a newer mobile app version 1.6.30 Good advice Judy for EV-potential buyers.
This was nice to hear from them again! To Larry's point about "full charge range" vs real world usability, I hope we move away from EPA rated range someday and just use efficiency. Then, if you want to know range times it by usable battery capacity. This is how we talk about gas cars and changing that has been a stumbling block for EVs. This also means automakers need to be transparent about battery capacities (gross and net) just like they are currently about fuel tank sizes.
Francie, how about some more interviews with VF and other EV owners, from various demographics? It is an additional dimension to EV ownership, that mere facts and figures can't convey on their own. Plus it's conducive to your interviewing style.
I have a VF8 Plus in Canada 🇨🇦 with ..15 version that came OTA. But had to nudge the service center first. Also renamed to Pho-Mobile 😊 and got all the perks as an early adopter. I drove the ECO as a loaner when my car was there for the 12v battery “recalibration “ and it is night and day compared with the Plus version. Still little annoying things that software should resolve. Just wish they are quicker to release improvements. That will help the brand. One thing I noticed with the sound system and Apple CarPlay. The equalizer needs to reset by going to the settings>sound icon. You get the better sound coming out. Also agree with the navigation feature. No voice prompts is not acceptable. The iOS app with remote controls need serious improvements. Which is possible to be a factor of the car “sleeping” and not connected to the internet. 1 pedal driving is a must and I don’t like to keep on creep mode. Regen could have a more aggressive setting #4 , enabling 1 pedal driving experience.
I have BMW X3 as well. My current problem with my car is that if the Auto Stop/Start is on my car just stranded at the stop when the light is back on with "Transmission failure" message. It causes people behind me and myself annoyed and is dangerous sometime. And I get annoyed also because this failure turn on the "Engine alert" light. I have then to manually shift to D to move. The dealer said there is no fix for that so I have to try to remember to turn Auto Stop/Start off. Unfortunately only a transmission error made me remember to turn off this Auto Stop/Start feature.
It will take another 10 years for the startup Vinfast to prove the stability and technological prowess of the world's top three companies, Hyundai and Toyota. Customers are not lab rats.
For the range at different speeds discussion. I think the biggest test would be how many hours it takes to go 500 miles. One car sticking to the speed limit, one 5 over, one 10 over, and one 15 over. Who gets there first. As a sidenote it would be interesting to see the range at the speeds, and if that is in line with the arrival order.
All EVs have Regen, I thought maybe she meant one pedal but all new EVs have that now too. Wishing for more range is understandable, but it reminds me of people that want the Chevy bolt to charge faster and have longer range and look prettier, it can't be all those things and be a bolt and be cheap.
100% on my Equinox rs is 342 miles so I expect to get about 300 on the first charge of a road trip. 260 ish at 80% so likely 200 or less going down to less than 20% which I try not to do. So the bottom line its getting better each year and each new model at age 75 I need to stop every two or three hours anyway or I will rust
Sounds like a great car if you don't plan on having any passengers. Looks like they got a 2 star crash rating for frontal impact crashes. But hey, who minds a few hospital bills for you passengers. It's just a flesh wound. 😉
We love your videos and podcast, Francie. But your friend Kyle's negativity towards Vinfast exposed his racist nature. In fact, many of those intense negative reviews of Vinfast VF8 have been made by those whose racist nature speaks louder than their comments about Vinfast. We've unsubscribed Out of Spec channel (by Kyle) because of it.
BEIJING - Chinese electric car company Xpeng on Tuesday announced that its mass-market brand Mona will start selling some models for less than $17,000. The basic version of the Mona M03 electric coupe will be listed at 119,800 yuan ($16,812), with a driving range of 515 kilometers (320 miles) and some parking assist features. A version of the Mona M03 with the more advanced “Max” driver assist features and a driving range of 580 kilometers will sell for 155,800 yuan.
