In 1968, he co-wrote "Sugar, Sugar" for The Archies. The song was No. 1 for four weeks and in 1969 was certified "Record of the Year" by the RIAA.
Kim has also recorded under the stage name Baron Longfellow since the mid 1980s
Man this song brings back memories. I was 24. Summer. Nam was three years behind me, and I was partying like a madman. I wore my 8 track out on this song. Had a 67 Mustang. Ahhh youth. Enjoy every day my friends
Right on,and thank you for your service brother 😎✌️🇺🇸
Thank you for your service !
Yes! No matter what, keep yourself alive until you can retire. I wake up every day and thank God that somehow, some way I made it to paradise. 🍹 The only thing that I ever wanted to own was my time.

Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐
May he walk with you forever 💖
Way to go my friend. Stay young and live free
Congratulations 🎊
Andy Kim voice always reminded me of Neil Diamond, both are great voices.
I never noticed until now that he does sound like Neil Diamond. I actually think that's who I thought sung it.
I always thought so too
Looks like him to
I thought this was a Neil Diamond song since it came out when I was young until about a year or two ago when I tried to find it and discovered this guy
Yesssss
I'm an 80's kid and love that era of music. It's music from the 70's that comes in a close second. Both these decades have the best and most memorable music.
The 60s were pretty good too! 👌
@@skippy7208 lots of good music in the 60's too!!
The 70's was the era of simply great music. Wish we had more of it now.
That’s for sure the more the merrier please go back in time very romantic
That's because today's music is all Africa all the time.
@@tarstarkusz an age braging bout diversity but in reality there is less diversity😆 back then u would hear diff kinds of genres now a days it's almost always all the same tune😅
@@m_san_d Don't forget, there was Motown back then. So it's not like black music wasn't around and didn't get much respect. I own many Motown 45s to this day.
But today, we get the opposite of that. We get all Africa, all the time. It's awful if you don't like rap, which I don't.
@@tarstarkusz aye
I remember this..loved it I'm 63 and could still dance to it.
Incomparable🎶Is this your favorite song?

5 years after your post, let me know if you get this! 61 here and thinking at my tender age back then how much this song had my head bobbing, feet tapping and singing in my head. At some point back then, I started falling in love with the ladies singing background because they sounded so sexy!
I am a 58 years old man and when I hear this song feel like I am 20 years old. Love it so much

I was born in 1960 and even as a very young child, I absolutely loved this era of music. The absolute best.
Im 60 ALSO , THE 70s were the BIG BOMB 4 SURE

1963 here, have loved this song forever!!!! I miss good music, lyrics that mean something not just noise and cussing!!!!! Kids today have no idea sadly...
Born in 1932. Blast this song in the nursing home every day.
transistor radio under my pillow, child of the 70's, it was a golden time!
I remember those times!
It was the best! I had a little Sony transistor that lived under my pillow way back then. Love the 70's
I was the same, I had a little radio under my pillow and used to listen to it in bed every night and fall asleep with it on. would wake up about 5am and radio still playing. Worst thing was, having to get up 2 hours later for school. When I think back now, they were the happiest days of my life.

Wish life was like the 70's now.
Pretty sure the Vietnamese wouldn't want to live through the bloody 70'S again
You got that right 👍. Oh, how I miss growing up in that era.

Love this song, another example of why the 70's was the best era in music!!
60s to 80s yea or nay
cant beat the music from the 70s. Such great memories
That's when singers had to be very talented, because there was no Autotune. Now music is just plain crap.

1970s music is the greatest music ever made
The first time I heard this song I thought it was Neil Diamond. I just assumed he was behind this timeless classic. One of my favorites. Always has been always will be.

I said the same thing on another video version of this song!
Same for me
Yes,sounds like Him,till this day had no clue who sings.....
I thought it was Neil Diamond as well, thought there was a mistake in the name!! Beautiful song.
Back when music was music!! Love this song!! Brings back many memories!
this is a perfect example of a perfect song, perfectly sung and perfectly performance.
The female has THE voice and carries the song at the end.
I am 66 years old and this music brings back memories when I was in high school the most beautiful music I ever heard and I love every bit of it
Sings like neil diamond, looks like englebert humperdink. Both great singers!!
So I'm at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show that follows the Chuckwagon Races last night (July 13, 2018) and the announcer says 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Andy Kim', and he's lifted onto the stage from a sunken platform singing 'Rock Me Gently', I almost choked on my funnel cake. Everybody was singing along and having a great time. As this is one of my all time favourite songs of my childhood, I was having an 'out of body' experience. Still can't believe it... he followed up with 'Sugar Sugar' and asked us all to sing along (like he had to ask) everyone was on their feet!
Lmao... That's great.. I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS STILL ALIVE..
I'd love to see a video of him singing the 2 songs in2108.
Why'd I, ever, leave Calgary?! Love the story; thanks, for sharing it!
Roz Ficatch
Lol that’s hilarious Roz if I knew what funnel cake was 😂but great song. Never knew he was responsible for Sugar Sugar.
What an amazing blessing!!!
Born in 1964 I grew up in the 70's ohhh to have a time machine, this was music, pure and authentic. I miss it dearly ✌

I can't believe I still remember all the words to this song. I was 13 when it came out.
I was 12 when this song came out and am surprised that I can still remember the words like it was yesterday.

Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
Great song !🎶
Even more so when you see who is dancing with the young girl, at the very start of the video. Rather puts
the songs lyrics into a different perspective.
Yes, that really did give me the chills!
@@kenrunciman8706I spotted that too, and thought the same as I read the lyrics!

Finding a Gem of a song that you have not heard for 50 years is like seeing an old friend you haven't seen in a long time ⌚ ❣️
Best song I have ever heard! I love it. I grew up in the 70’s and I still love all my 60’s,70’s, and 80’s music forever the best, I wish everything would go back to those good old days.
One of the great songs to come out of the seventies. I always found the rhythms very hypnotic.
I have said it so many times before, I LOVE this song. Two thumbs up
Hello dear,how are you doing?
I was born in 1969 and came to age in the 80's and early 90's. I could never understand when I was young why my parents always listened to 50's music, I just thought they were old and didn't know better. Now I understand, music is about remembering a time in your life and soliciting a feeling that has been lost only to be rekindled by a familiar tune. Often I use this music as a therapy session when life gets hard, it takes me back to a simpler time when music was such a large part of my life and I was carefree. My car radio is usually on 80's on 8 or 90's on 9 and guess what? My kids just think I'm old and don't know any better.
MrSpicoli21 right on, man!
I was born in 1972 and I think gen x actually were very lucky as far as music, TV etc.We had all the old stuff from the 50s and 60s still being played on the radio as well as decent music in the 80s and 90s. I do feel like music died in the late 90s. The feel became very commercial and fake in every genre. I feel old now but thank the Lord we have Sirius XM.
Born in '61 and can't count how many times I've said what you've said in your post. I was a kid when these songs were playing on the radio. Your kids will probably be saying the same thing in twenty years.
I was born in 1969 also.ive always loved the oldies like this as well as the good ole 80's!
I WAS 16 IN 1969. THOSE WERE SOME GREAT TIMES 4 ALL THESE SONGS. THE SONGS TODAY DON'T EVEN MAKE SENSE.
I was born 1 year later Becky. I agree with you. We really had the best songs in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. Musicians like the Eagles, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Seger etc.saved the ‘80’s & ‘90’s. JMO. To each his own. It was a great time to be alive & the music was magical!! Ya’ had to be there to understand.🤘🏽Long Live Rock!!
Incomparable! Is this your favorite song?
This is one of my favorites, I love it so much, I can listen to it all day long ❤️
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
This brings back so many great memories of my late older sister. We shared a room, and she had a 45 record of this song. We played it on a loop and turned into disco mamas!
WOW! I remember when I was in Junior High School and this song was so popular. I wish that they would write more songs like this but I guess that is how history is made. Thank you for placing this song on the 70's list. Rock On!!!
The female background singer absolutely crushes it, especially at the end. From the 3:00 mark on, Andy gets out of the way and it's HER song.
That's Carol Carmichael, aka Carol Parks, whose like way with the exultant choruses you will also recall from her backing vocals on the Albert Hammond hit from 1972 "It Never Rains in Southern California".
This man can!!Raise a glass to awesome mid 70s music!
What a beautiful song, if I heard it several times back in 1974 when I was a high school student, some tears have come to the listener when I remember my youth, how time has passed, nothing to do Andy Kim was a great musician of the decade from the 70s, thanks for uploading it to youtube
Born in 1963,this song played at the roller skating rink and it brings back such wonderful memories ♥ ❤ 💖 I love this song!🙂🤗😘💗💗💗

I wish I was born back in the 40's so I could have lived my prime years in the 60's,70's and 80's. Today's music and way of life is just sad. The times back then seemed so much nicer then today. I get my mom who was born in the 60's to tell me her stories she has from growing up in those decades. I'll take this age of music any day over the crap we have today. I need a time machine!
You should have been born in 1950. Thirteen years old and the Beatles were in the charts - Rolling Stones etc - to me the best music ever was the sixties - simple and very evocative now.
i hear that loud and clear.today is just sad...PERIOD
ryan slaes I lived the 60 and 70s it was great, loved the music. There was some bad times too. The music got us thru it. Im 61 years old now, I listen to 60s & 70s music every day. Peace.
ryan slaes- Maybe you should watch Midnight In Paris. About a man who wished he lived in the 1920s. I was a teen during the 70s, and hated it. There's no way I'd go back. Of course, most people tend to enjoy their youth. I didn't. But don't regret it, because I'm glad to have learned how to be happy in the here and now.
Yes sir, they were good times and better music to me, born in "56. Todays music is just too fast and meaningless to me. Oh those oldies.
I can't believe I've lived so long without ever hearing this song until today. I just stumbled upon it & I had no idea what I was missing out on. My god, what a brilliant pop song. Great voice. Love it, love it, love it!
Memories will never be forgotten with this great song, Thank you! 👍

Still listening to it all these years later. Great song.
I was a 19 year old United States Marine back in 1974, when this was a hit. And so in love with my cute blonde haired, brown eyed girlfriend.
I am 60 now and I have always loved this song!
Sweet innocence's emotion here God please help us find this simple time again ......
I agree. Robin Thicke would never sing something like this. He's too sex-obsessed to sing a song about love.
JayDon Proud Catholic this coming from person who belong to rape religion that rape and murder indigenous people.

best music ever back in the 70's
Olimpo 2016 I went from Partridge Family music to Rolling Stones Led Zeppelin Alice Copper Allman Brothers Lynyrd Skynyrd. I nicknamed Mick Jagger ( A ROOSTER ON ACID ) cause of his energy on stage. It was cool Lynyrd Skynyrd came to Buffalo, NY I like some 70s Bands are still playing. ZZ Top played at our County Fair. That Buffalo called SNOW CAPITAL OF USA because of 1977 Blizzard. Such a brilliant songwriter and performer. Falling down a rabbit hole of his tunes after accidentally finding the Choir! Choir! Choir! performance of Sugar Sugar by The Archies where they got Andy Kim to sing and record it with them for the 50th anniversary of the song just a couple of years ago. Andy is in his '70s and still sounds phenomenal! If you haven't heard it yet, definitely find it on here and give it a listen. So beautiful! 😍
I loved Sugar, Sugar back in the day.
I'm 66 and still young! I recall dancing to this classic in discos in UK! Pop music has changed so much, some of today's is fabulous, it will be seen as a classic in years to come, but for now these are our classics!
This song brings back memories of hot summer nights spent listening to the radio because I couldn't sleep. Those were the days....
Hello dear, how are you doing, how is the weather over there?
Close my eyes and listening to this classic gem sure takes me back to the summer of 1974.
Why oh why isn't there a better video for one of my favourite songs of all time... 'Rock Me Gently'... just does something to me. It came on the radio the other day when driving... and I was in complete euphoria!

What a trip down memory lane! Seems like 1974 was yesterday! Where has the time gone?✌️
Sept 2024... I'm in a pub. A lass standing near us says to her fella "take it easy...don't you know" then it went inaudible. That was it, song went in my head. Lyrics came flooding back.
Marched to the jukebox, it came on instantly. Louder than the randoms it plays for free.
I tell you, when the first "baby baby" kicks in early in the song, the whole pub was singing along.
It kickstarted an epic afternoon of classic 70s songs being played on the jukebox. One of my favourite afternoons, I had to post about it 😁
cool story thanks for sharing i remember in 97 pub over here in australia they had a massive big jukebox at the back in garden lounge id always play led zepplin rock an roll it would echo through the pub the old guys didnt like it i thought f it its a brilliant song but yeh your story sounds great

I never knew who sang this amazing song and I also never heard it enough times on oldies radio. When I have heard it I've always loved it. Songs like this are precious and I never get tired of them. Love is the most important thing in the world especially in these terrifying times it's good to hear music that is made to soothe and uplift.
Songs like this are precious to me as well, so as soon as I got the chance I burned a CD played it over and over again. Now my adult children appreciate as I did! Generations will have the opportunity to know good music when they hear it! The least i can do :)

I hear this and I'm suddenly 7 years old, perched in the back "rumble seat" of our big blue 1972 Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon as we head from our home in Easton PA to spend the day with family in Syosset NY. The radio's tuned to WABC "77" with the legendary Dan Ingram as Mom hauls ass across the GWB like Mario Andretti, with all us kids jamming to this song, bobbing our heads and singing at the tops of our lungs like pint-sized rock stars...
