I was 11. But i remember this song! I still love it!
I was 7 ,but I remember my mom dancing to it. I love this song. I'm now 52 . I love 70 and 80 and 90s
I was born in 82 but I love 70s music.
I bought the vinyl 45 record in 1978 when I heard this song on the radio and played it often, I really like Nick Gilder voice
Oh I loved this song!! My friends and I had some of the best times while this song was playing. Partying on cheap weed, beer and pop pov vodka! This brought back good memories! Those were the days!!! How innocent our generation X was🤪
I was 12 in '78..I used to think it was a female till I got older. 70's and 80's were great times.
Tina Kirby
I always thought that too it was a girl 👧🏼
Have you ever heard him sing Roxy Roller when he was in Sweeney Todd . It was released in 1975 . For several years I thought he was a girl after hearing that .
I'm the same age. I agree the 70's and 80's were the best times growing up. No internet or smartphones but it didn't matter. We enjoyed what we had, and we had the best tv, music and movies of all time. Thanks to technology we can enjoy all the great music and tv shows we had then anytime online.
I just found right now that it's not sung by a female after all these years. Mind blown.
I was fifteen in 1978 and loved this song but still do.
I was 14 when I bought the 45 of this song in Two Guys. Still great after all these years.
WOW!! From So.Jersey, there was a Two Guys on the White Horse Pike,Barrington!!
I was 10 when this was a hit. This song really sums up the late 70’s for me. Even now when I hear this, it’s like being teleported back to the fall of ‘78 in my room. Laying around me are various records, including Cheap Trick at Budokan, the first Van Halen album, the first Cars album, Blondie Parallel Lines, Ramones Road To Ruin, and Some Girls by the Stones. Star Wars posters on the walls.
It’s a really nice feeling.
Haha funny same here, I won a Star Wars poster playing checkers n it was on my wall n of course very similar songs u mentioned n more
that's a special feeling
I’m 51 now this song is the sh*t
We are the same age and I agree with you!!
Same with me, but KISS posters and blacklist posters. I was 14
I WAS TWENTY AND YES IT WAS THE TIME OF MY LIFE. YOU CAN'T FIND THIS TALENT WE HAD ANYMORE ❤❤❤
I was 12 in 78 and had his poster on my wall..God I miss doing that The 80s music mind blowing. I still play them all at 56
One of the songs that defined the era of the late 70's. I can remember it when it first came out. Aging myself. Pre-cell phone, pre-internet and even pre-personal computer (give or take a few years).
A GREAT FUCKI'N TIME TO BE YOUNG !!! { in the bay area} I was 15 when this now classic hit !! Timeless tune !
Me too.lol
feathered bangs, roll on lip gloss, loves baby soft cologne, high rise jordash jeans and a freakiing tube top, cruising in my 69 mach 1. junior year in high school,, talking to our friends about when we were going to 'do it' with our boyfriends lol
We must say Gender Challanged now
@Timothy Moran The album it was on was "City Nights", released in June of 1978. This song went to number 1 on the charts here in the US in either August or September of '78, I forget which.
2020 and this tune still has my ear 🎧
I was 8 when this came out, & it made me want to grow up faster. It made me think of bright lights, adventures and some day having someone who thought I was amazing. Times were simpler than.
❤❤😘❤️👍
Classic song
woke up this morning(5-10-24)with this song in my head.
I was in middle school in 1978 I was 14years old those were some of the best days of my life I wish I could go back to those days
I was 12
Me too!!
I got up the other day with this song in my head. Hadn't heard it decades and always thought a woman was singing! I was 9 years old when I first heard this song. I miss the 80s music.
I seen him back in 78 when he opened up for Foreigner..wow I'm aging myself but that was the good years.. I snuck out to the concert at 14.. Dane County colisium
hi,how are you doing?
This is so weird I'm 54 and heard this song maybe a few times in my life. I woke up 10 minutes ago with the song in my mind.
I love his voice! This song came out when I was 14 and I loved it. I'd go back to the 70s any day.
It never ages! ❤
I was 9 yrs old still remembering this hit
Nick...looking GREAT in 2023!!!
Looks(a bit) like Tom Petty!!
Over 40 years since I heard this song. Thank you
Thank you Nick you said you would & you did & never forget your sweet smile as I was eating my petite hamburgers at enricos sidewalk cafe on Broadway in san Francisco love forever
Frances whom you wrote song for ❤
I was 11 in 1978 .. This song was the jam!!!! Me and my friends used to dance to this song!!!
❤😂😊 Cool! I was 11 also!!😅
..I kid you not,I CAN REMEMBER BEING THREE YEARS OLD,hearing this tune for the first time and thinking to myself.."OH YEAH,THAT'S A HIT." Still funky after ALL THESE YEARS..😎
i do believe you...
Ah that’s music and scents too, they take us right back ♥️ I believe you too!
100% I believe you. I love it.
I have memories dating back to when I was one year old, confirmed by my parents, so I totally believe you.
My whole life of loving and singing this song just now learning it’s a MAN 😳 singing
takes me back to Friday nights as a teenager. Always put this on the jukebox in fish & chip shop
I'm just turned 59 this year and I used to sing this when I was 30 to 48yrs old at Karaoke. Loved this song since I first heard it. When I used to sing it everyone asked, "why am I singing a chick tune." I told them it's a guy singing it. Was surprised no one new that. Never did know he was Canadian and that's great. I'm a Canadian.
Canada, land of the Guess Who 👍 ahhh the United States👎 they are what we wish we could be, 😁😁😁😭😭
The bass and beat tho 😅 hella delicious.. born ‘69.. radio play.. still love this song in 2023 ❤
I once had to sing this song at school for the whole week when walking in the hallways, why I did that I was bored and had nothing else to sing, I probably would have been singing love is a battlefield because that is my favorite song but I was sad because my crush was away all week!
Fun times long gone
Yep me too roller skating miss them days😊😊
Yep, just good feeling rock and roll right there! He and his band are at Rockin The Fields of Minnedosa this weekend. I am certain they will put on a marvelous show. 71 years old, can you believe it? Still putting on great performances and wanting to do the concerts at 71 is AWESOME!!!
Takes me back to my roller skating days
I was a stage hand setting up and tearing down when Nick Guilder & Sweeney Todd played the clubs and high schools in Vancouver in the 70s...
Best music ever 70s and 80s !
I was 8 years old when this came out...I remember getting this single for my best friend on her birthday...
They were in this rack at Payless for 10 cents back then. You just brought back a lot of memories
I was in Jr. High when this hit #1. I'd go to the local restaurant for lunchtime. Play pinball and hear this song everyday.
Very under rated pop writer. Incredible range as far as vocals. Met him several times when I was opening for him. He's quiet He's also very funny in dry way. True Canadian trail blazer. He opened doors for bands like Streetheart..lover boy and Brian Adams to name a few. I've always had a connection to him. I played my junior high dance when I was in grade 8. I remember playing Electric Love. Times were cool. I appreciate Nick Glider and his band. The hooks are endless. The band was extremely creative and tasty shown in such songs as Catch 22, You Really Rock Me and of course Roxy Roller. Lots of great memories growing up. Wish we didn't have to😁
As the saying goes Way more fun being 20 in the 70’s than being 70 in the 20’s 😂😂😂
We used to dance to this with our mom when we were kids while we laughed..
I was 16 great times in those days keep on rocken ❤❤❤
I remember this when it was brand new. As a dad my kids heard me play the song they love it as well
This came out when I was a young girl, and I bought the 45 because I wanted this in my ear all the time. Hot guy in the video.
I saw him perform this on TV when it was brand new, and I loved it right away. Catchy tune with a cool bass line. I can't remember if it was on Don Kirshner, Saturday Night Live, or Fridays.
Same here! We were all singing that line, 'Hot child in the city. Running wild and lookin' pretty'.
Happy 4th of July 2024!😍🇺🇸🎉❤️🤍💙
I’ve always loved this song❣️ This is the first time I’ve watched the video. I always thought this was a female singer.😳
That bass with his voice is killer.
the 70's, a hot sexy decade.
Yeah it was , a wonderful experience ✨🎉🥳🎊
❤😘❤️👍
Love this tune, I love the 60s and 70s
Great song from 1978
I always knew he was a guy even though I was only about 12. He’s a mix of Tom Petty and Bowie, he should have been massive, he has the talent and the charisma. Great guy, l love this.
I still love this song!
Perfect mix voice tone plus melody
Music from those days so much better.. all of it..
YEEES, my song still rocks in the 2019!!
R.I.P mom🎉🎉❤🎉😊😢
Never gets old
CLARISSA PIZZA
Probably one of the most underrated singers , his music is hard to find online , his greatest hits is his only stuff on Spotify
Hard to find cause he was a one hit wonder
So hard.
He’s playing some shows again with his band Sweeney Todd in the Vancouver area. You tube the band and you will see some if their recent performances Still great.
@@darthdennis6681 Two hit wonder.

1978 Classic!
Great year
I was getting ready to graduate in '78 when this song hit the airwaves....
❤️Memories of the old AM radio’s . This song was always on when we were out 1:13 driving ❤️
He nails it
EXPLAINS MEGAMIND
Nick had the whole sexy androgynous thing going for him (whether he was aware of it or not) & from my memory, was one of the first to do it. Great song & at my young age at the time, remembered that it always felt a little “forbidden.”
Bowie was the first.
@@andysmith6218 Yes, it was Bowie and Marc Bolan. But by the time when Nick was singing that song in 78, glam rock had went under. I understand Nick came from the early 70's glam era, but I was surprised Nick and the song made it up the charts in the the late 70. Because Nick was still being androgynous and most of his songs including that one had sounded very much glam.
@@andysmith6218 Bowie was the most famous example (of the ‘androgynous’ look), but I wouldn’t say he was the first. Before him there was Little Richard. However yeah, Bowie kind of perfected it.
That's the year I came to London to study at the age of 18. 10cc's "I am not in love" was top 1 on the Capital Radio Top 500, second was "Bridge over troubled water".
I was in high school when this came out it was a giant hit.
Everyone is disclosing their ages, how mature we are !?
No way!
You guys are crazy
I was only 12 too and I knew!!
I knew that was a boy singing
Yeaaaahhhh
Baby
♥️♥️♥️♥️😍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
hi,how are you doing?
Nick Gilder wrote a lot of hits for other artists.
Besides his own two hits, he’s only written two charting hits for other artists (Scandal and Pat Benatar). It’s an accomplishment, but I wouldn’t really call that “a lot”.
If he wrote any other hit songs that I’m overlooking, please let me know.
I didn’t know that 😊
@@Shikta-poobah67he wrote sonic the hedgehog , in an elevator, under the influence of coricidin
@@filramilFascinating.
This is how I remember him like this, he played at are school gym years back.
Nicholas Gilder, one of the alltime bests, along with this one of my alltime favorites all these decades
loved it from that great year of hits 1978
This was a smash hit song for Nick it reached number one on Billboard pop singles chart in the fall of 1978 Nick's other hit song of note The Warrior a top ten song recorded by Patti Smyth in 1984.
Mindhunter brought me to this song. Nice.
This cutie pie. ❤
I was 4 when this came out. But I remember family members playing it. All I remember was the lyrics: Hot child in the city and tune/beat..but it stuck in my head. It was constantly in my head and it me ages to find it.
It was on the radio constantly back then
70’s pop...my favorite
Because it was the best.
This music brings back good memories from the day 💯👍
Tori is... I don't even have words, kind of reminiscent of when I first heard Anne Murray
I love Nick Gilder❤️
Classic ❤
This was an odd one performance-wise. Huge hit in North America (number 1 in both the US and Canada) while in his native UK it completely failed to chart, despite featuring on the main music programme of the day. That was a rare honour for a track which hadn't yet charted.
Big hit in Australia & New Zealand too.
That was fantastic!
I wasn’t even a thought when this song came out.
My friend just sent me this song and I’m 40 and hearing it for the first time 😆
Omigosh! His voice! I'm so confused but happy!...
• One • I think he’s a bit confused also
Loved this song! I was in first grade with this one! It was so popular!
Yeah this is a great song, but he was also the producer for Pat Benatar and Patti Smythe. Not too shabby.
Wow!! I didn't know that. That is interesting. Honestly
I'm 53 and just learned ots a guy singing it.i was about the same age when it came out.
I had in on 45 when it first came out; great song.
13 yrs old. When I first heard this. Cruising through, Lookout Mountain Tennessee. Family vacation.
What a hit!!
