To me this is not a sad song. Yeah, it's about dying and some regret about decisions made in life, but at the same time it affirms a life that was lived to the fullest. Tt also makes it very clear that life goes on even without us, and that even in death our presence is always felt. Great lyrics and catchy melody.
I lost my wife of 32 years summer 2018. When I'm sad and miss her, I come to this song, usually on a Sunday like today. Love you and miss you Sue, until next Sunday.
Only because it was a simpler, better time. It seemed as if time moved slower back then. You didn't have cell phones to distract you; one had time for building friendships.

I'm fighting stage 4 cancer, I'm also a war vetran this song hit home very close to home I lost friends in the war and to cancer, this a wonderful song the words match the name there is a time for every thing death, life, happiness, sadness, to all those that can relate to this song like I myself can my heart go out to each and every one of you.
As a strong believer that there is life after death, this is a song [even if filled great sadness] that we will carry on in our hearts, in our souls for eternity as it will transcend time and space. To all the people who have lost their loved ones in their lifetime, have faith because it is the only force that gives us hope, that drives us forward along our life's journey. I firmly believe that we will reunite one day in God's Kingdom for everlasting life. Do not despair, we are here on Earth for only a brief passage in time like a spec of dust. To all the people that have been diagnosed and are stricken with a terminal disease, have faith that there are greater things waiting for you in God's Kingdom. My heart and compassion pours out along with my prayers for all of you. May God bless you all. I have lost many family members and friends along my life's journey, but I have faith and refuse to believe that we turn into dust and nothing more.
We played this at my mother's funeral. Just over 13 weeks ago my brothers and I was told our mother had days rather than weeks to live, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I want people to know what a brave, strong amazing warrior she was, she fought a very tough battle just to stay with us as long as she could. She was amazingly brave. we will all miss her dearly, there is now a huge void in our lives.
Jesus called your mum to help him papier a place for you and your brother to be back with your mum once again and this time it will be for ever (Just believe in God) i promise he won't let you down.
I sure do miss the 70s, 80s and 90s. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
I'm a terminally ill single mother. I wrote this song down for my baby to listen to when he turns 16. Good God, boy, you make me feel alive even when it hurts.

I lost my soulmate and my daughter within the same few months this was one of their favorite songs and I lost them over 25 years ago and I still miss them with all my heart , I love you two and soon we will be reunited again as a family once again
I am truely sorry to hear this. I hope you can find peace and move on. This song is just crazy heart breaking. It was the funeral song of my grandpa and always brings me to tears
The times were tumultuous. Much hate, love and death. The music brings all of us for our own reasons. Let it bring what you need. Don't judge anyone else for their needs and memories. ♥️
At 64 I realize just how fortunate it is to have a good life, good health, good job, good friends and most importantly having a soulmate that shared their life with you. If you have these things, thank God everyday. I never thought it could be that hard to these simple things.
RIP, Robbie. I will never forget the day I came home from work, you were there, with a note on the coffee table with this song title. I said, "oh! I know this song!" and you said, "you need to listen to it again." and just two months later...you passed away from this life. I miss you so much. Til we meet again--always and forever--your Princess
"I am a 54-year old (male) & it still gets me emotional as to where I cry". "Even if I try NOT to cry I get overcome with sad emotions through past sad life events I have experienced".
My friend died at 23. We'd met at around 5yrs old. His grandpa called us David and Jonathan, not knowing who was the the naughty one. We shared girlfriends, and life. I'll always miss him and none can ever take his place. I miss my friend, brother, Gavin. It's impossible to reflect on the friendship we had for the short time we had had together. Of one can grasp the meaning of true friendship it could be possible,😢
I was born in the early 60s and today's music don't come close to what I grew up with and still listen to it today. 60s 70s 80s was and still is the best music ever played including country, rock and every other genre of music.
Hell yea, even country was cool back then, give me some Coe any day over the crap they push today. And don't get me started on Zappa, I'll write a block text no will read. So many greats.
This song makes me recall a girl that I went to school with. Pam and I went to Junior High and High School together. She lived 3 houses from me and we would walk home together. She thought of me as the brother she never had. I loved her dearly but she was a year older than me and much more mature. She was lost to cancer several years ago but I still think of her often.
Jill King I blame Partridge Family songs turning me into Rock n Roll junkie, I was crazy about Rock Music, Stones, Zeppelin, Alice Cooper. In High School a Teacher got Allman Brothers to play for us. Funny because it was a Catholic School. It was funny in Buffalo, NY almost every band opened saying HELLO BUFFALO. That Buffalo called SNOW CAPITAL OF USA because of 1977 Blizzard. I get it we got 19 feet of snow that winter. City & Schools closed 3 weeks. We only got Visitors because Niagara Falls is close. Even now we average 10 feet from Lake Erie. Always WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO
Just lost my sister 2 best friends weeks apart. Omg this song still hits. Took down Christmas decorations over it. No words hurt. Love to all who are hurting
This record really does hit home to us 55+ year olds. And for many different reasons. For me, it reminds me of my useless drunken dad and my poor dear downtrodden mother who had to put up with his shit. He was pathetic and i wish i could get him out of my head. Love you mum.
Busyboy 42 Learn to let that shit go. How you might ask? Ask yourself and be honest; what purpose does it serve to allow him to occupy your head space? What good are you getting from this? You're holding onto something that's slowly stealing the light in your life. Last but not least and the hardest; FORGIVE HIM. You're not doing it for him, you're doing it for your own sake! You don't need to put yourself through this any longer. Be compassionate, to yourself. Peace
I'm lost in the 60's and 70's music, i also love the 50's music, these are the best era's ever filled with great songs and great talent. I lived the 60's and 70's and i'm so glad i got to experience this.
I remember when Seasons in the Sun came out. It was a great song, sad and somber, but still a fun song to listen to and sing along to. I was 13. Now, at age 62, I can’t help but be reminded of the people I grew up with, over the years, who are no longer here. To the journey. I still love this song.
Seasons in the Sun" is the story of a dying man, bidding farewell to loved ones who have shared his life. ... With the money he made from this song, Jacks purchased a boat, which he christened "Seasons in the Sun." He began sailing up and down the west coast of Alaska and Canada, and had some revelations along the way.
In my youth I thought it was a song about suicide and the final message left. Over the years, and after suffering the loss of my parents, sister and too many friends, I understand it for what it is. A heartfelt message of love from a dying person or to a dying person.
I relate to this at a deep and very emotional level, the fist part a friendship of 40 years. The second goodbye Michelle a tribute to my sister lost to covid. I will be with her soon this will be played at my funeral as well as Disturbeds sound of silence. I am being hounded by authorities because of my decision but all is good happy with my choice of songs.
Turned 63 today, 20 Dec 2024. Remember when this was in the charts as a young teen. Now I'm looking back on a life mostly spent. How I'd love to live my teen years again they were so good. Secodary school, trust worthy friends, scouts and my first girlfriend. Lost touch with it all when I joined the RAN.

***** jonathan holland Thanks even though he was my Ex Husband He was Always there for Me and My son he raised from age 6 Which is now 20.....He played this song all the time and is Very Fitting to Losing him! Ironic RIP BIG GUY!!!! With a HEART OF GOLD!
When I was younger, I always played this song because it has a lot of meaning to it. I still listen to it because the words and music is so nice. I loved the 70s.
My adoptive sister came into our family when I was 9-1/2 years old and she was 10 just like in the song. From that day forward we did everything together, yes we climbed hills and trees, skinned our hearts and skinned our knees - all of that. We were best friends. We got married the very same month but moved to different cities and lived very different lives. She made some life choices that she regretted, and in a sense did become the black sheep of the family, but her good heart was never diminished. She died way too young of Covid, and left a world that had wounded her but some people who really loved her. We went through a lot together, and I miss her so much.
@Griffith Williams wish I could go back to my childhood and enjoy the music we listened to on black and white tv They were the good old days. Take care my friend
This song was an oldie even then! First recorded in French as Le Moribond ( The Dying Man) by writer Jacque Brel in 1961. Singer/songwriter Rod McKuen wrote the English lyrics and had the first English recording that same year. Here: ruclips.net/video/y0mGzfdUJ1U/видео.html
David Leaney DL, I am sorry for your loss. I was also there in the 70’s and remember people thinking this song was ‘cheesy’. Natural I guess as we were young and going to live forever. As the years go by and we accumulate life experience, it takes on new meaning. It sounds as if you were fortunate to have found a life partner with which to share and build memories. Although all things must end hopefully these memories will last. May you be well.
@@pspicer777 Thank you for your extremely kind words, however I feel bad that I may have unintentionally mislead you. We first met at about the age of 11 and started dating until we left school at 16 then due to work commitments we drifted apart, occasionally meeting up at parties, school reunions ect. Eventually marrying other people, then in 2008 both having failed marriages we got together and married in 2009. Sadly she passed away in 2016 with a brain tumour. I should never have let her slip through my fingers all those years ago. Please forgive me for misleading you.
David Leaney DL, your story as you have filled it out is truely wonderful. Full of rich life experiences ... it might be that without the intermediate experiences, you and your wife would not have had the synergies that existed in your marriage. One will never know for sure, but it does sound as if you were able to find true love and partnership in the time you had together. Very few do. A life lived to the best of ones ability, although imperfect, needs no apology. Be well DL.
Sorry my friend.. :( May she Rest in peace. I can relate.. lost one of my best friends 2,5 years ago at the age of 25 due to an accicdent.. and this was one of his favourite songs and was played at his funeral too. This song gets me everytime..
Lost my high school, first love after 4 years to a brain stem tumor in 1977. I have been happily married for 36 years, but honestly not a day goes by I don't think of him and miss him. Thankfully, my husband gets it. God Bless you and words pass, memories are permanent.
Don't worry too much... There are many people that have a very fond memory of our first true loves......I still think of one early love, and how it still affects me after so many decades have gone by. (Even though to this day she stays in a loveless and sad relationship.) The times of great music with meanings that we don't have these days, makes us go back in time to when we were young, and our love was young and fresh too. Life is too short I must say....
I beg to differ but the hardest part of getting old is getting old!!
What's 'old'?
It used to be so easy getting old. Now it is more painful and difficult. Some body parts are brand new while others are ancient.
mais c est la seule façon de ne pas mourir jeune
HELLO FRANK...... , I also beg to differ. The hardest part of getting old for me was the school of hard knocks. SERIOUSLY. NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

God bless you mate
Very sorry for your loss. Big hugs
Men often hurt more with loss, even though people expect men to be stoic and not mourn as much. My heart goes out to you.
So Sorry for your loss
I just love this song, reminds me of a better simpler time in life 🥰
Reminds me of my childhood
God I sure miss those magical years, we had joy we had fun
Only because it was a simpler, better time. It seemed as if time moved slower back then. You didn't have cell phones to distract you; one had time for building friendships.

we're the same age I was 7 in 1972 and I can remember this song, and all the others we had gifted to us in the 70's by artists with true talent.
I was born overseas in 67 on military base.
Born in 1966. 5 years ago I was in the Duke hospital saying my final goodbyes to my youngest son who had been hit by a driver who left the scene three days before. We have since moved away from the Durham, NC area because of the the pain was just no longer safe for us.
We truly do love and miss you our Son and your brother is lost without you. Our lives will never be the same!

Wow so deep but true nonetheless

Hell yea, even country was cool back then, give me some Coe any day over the crap they push today. And don't get me started on Zappa, I'll write a block text no will read. So many greats.
They always took their music so serious. They would never have gotten that good if they hadn't! They got it the hard way; they earned it!

Do you know that it is fact Jacques Brel who created it:

Learn to let that shit go. Peace

Oh that's good,good for him,a brilliant song🙏🙏🙏
Yes
In my youth I thought it was a song about suicide and the final message left. Over the years, and after suffering the loss of my parents, sister and too many friends, I understand it for what it is. A heartfelt message of love from a dying person or to a dying person.
I relate to this at a deep and very emotional level, the fist part a friendship of 40 years. The second goodbye Michelle a tribute to my sister lost to covid. I will be with her soon this will be played at my funeral as well as Disturbeds sound of silence. I am being hounded by authorities because of my decision but all is good happy with my choice of songs.
I hope whenever someone talks about this song and the times they had, I hope they have an amazing story!

Hello Marie, how's everything going with you?
Dear Jesus, what has happened to the World Soul that we don't have music like this anymore?
❤
Dear Jesus was forgotten.
Listening to covid sucks, love the oldies I'm 61, they will never get old in my eyes

This song was an oldie even then! First recorded in French as Le Moribond ( The Dying Man) by writer Jacque Brel in 1961. Singer/songwriter Rod McKuen wrote the English lyrics and had the first English recording that same year.

Be well DL.

There are many people that have a very fond memory of our first true loves......I still think of one early love, and how it still affects me after so many decades have gone by. (Even though to this day she stays in a loveless and sad relationship.)
