The Best Snorkeling! + Anchoring My Sailboat!

  • Today I am taking you guys snorkeling at the Kelp Forest in Avalon, Catalina Island. The amount of fish I saw was crazy! After snorkeling I go ashore to get some ice and see a bit of the town. After spending a day in Avalon I leave the mooring and sail 3 nautical miles to a place called Whites Landing where I anchor at this Island for the first time! It was an awesome experience but it came with a few difficulties and I now know I have some broken equipment that I will need to fix! I build a rocker stopper and set it up which will help the boat be less rocky at night! My pups will also be joining me for a swim ashore after we dinghy over to a small bouy, tied up and jumped off! I let the pups run around for a bit and chase some birds, then swam back to the dinghy to head back to the boat. I also show you guys how I take showers on the boat and shower the pups! After showering I make some dinner and decide to fish for the rest of the evening where I caught an absurd amount of fish. Thanks so much for watching, I hope to see you join in on the fun by hitting that subscribe button! In the next video I’m going to be doing some more snorkeling, sailing to Two harbors, and getting a Mooring in Emerald Bay. It's going to be awesome! If you made it to the bottom of the description, please leave me a comment and let me know because I will respond to you!

    Hi, I just found you. I have been sailing for the last three years. I am up and down the West coast. I am now doing Catalina. You do an Amazing job on your videos. I know all the places you are going too and learning a lot from you. Thank You. I just added stabilizers to my sail boat. It is so much fun to be doing this. I feel that you and I are going through the same learning process as we go. Yes we are blessed and I am thinking on sharing my experiences with others . Hopefully I can get people to come out and join me and see and feel if this is a life or hobby for them. What you are doing with your adorable dogs, I am doing it with my cat Sophie. I would like for her to swim with me. I don't think that will ever happen. You make the waters around Catalina feel warm. Last week i was in Avalon and isthmus. The water is freezing. Ill have to get tougher. Take care.

    Love the channel. Invest in lithium! You get so much bang for your buck and need less batteries bc you can use more of the capacity of each battery. They’re getting cheaper everyday. Also being a solo sailor id recommend on putting a windlass switch at the helm that way you can raise/lower your windlass from the helm super convenient and cheap. Looking forward to the next video.

    Thanks for the video! As a sailor and a woman, I admire you taking on solo sailing. It’s not as easy as you make it look! Good job explaining to your audience as you’re doing stuff. One suggestion is to mark your chain so you easily know the depth. I learned to sail as a kid on a lake. Wonderful summer memories! How did you get into sailing? I’m 55 now but still have my dream to own a sailboat some day.

    Christa, I’m enjoying your videos and wish you all my and joy of sailing.
    With regard to anchoring without a working depth meter do as sailors did from early, tie a weight to a line and drop it to the sea floor. The line will show the wet mark and you can estimate pretty accurately by measuring the wet part of the line once you have retrieved it by assuming that for you, one arms length, arm to arm across your chest, is 5 feet. It’s accurate enough to know whether you’re in 30 feet or 50 feet.
    Good luck, fair winds and happy sailing. From an old sailor.

    Young lady some windlasses you can put rode in. Yours is one that you cannot. They make portable depth finders for kayaks that are handheld. 50.00. Good to have on board for back up. I would be a little concerned about your batteries going that low, especially having a solar panel. Your fridge must be the culprit or your batteries are close to failing.

    • @CaptainChrista
      @CaptainChrista  Год назад +1
