  • Today I am taking you guys sailing on my 31ft sailboat all the way to an Island! We got rained on, stopped for fuel, and had great wind for about half the trip! It is my first time sailing this boat to Catalina Island! I build a rocker stopper along the way which will help the boat be less rocky at night! My pups will also be joining me for this sail as well as a camera man. I will be showing you guys the complete sail over, which we averaged 4 knots while we were under sail power. We also grabbed some ballon’s on the way and we saw a huge oil tanker! Once we get to Catalina we chat with the harbor patrol and grab a mooring for the evening! I’ll also be showing you guys how I get the mooring on the boat and how it holds the boat in place! It was a beautiful day after 9 hours of sailing we finally made it to Catalina! Thankfully everything went as planned for this trip! Thanks so much for watching, I hope to see you join in on the fun by hitting that subscribe button! In the next video I’m going to be anchoring my boat in Catalina, catching some fish, and snorkeling! It's going to be awesome! If you made it to the bottom of the description, please leave me a comment and let me know because I will respond to you!

Very well put together I enjoyed watching. Good looking too ⛵️. I want to do this as well but I think Florida and the Bahamas. Tacoma is to dreary among other things. Good luck I’ll keep watching! You got that mooring ball so easy! I had a catalina 25 and bringing it in to dinner key mooring field in miami was the stuff of nightmares. It was as packed as a walmart parking lot and missing the ball had you running to the stern and pulling off magic tricks so as not to hit another boat. I finally just started staying at the stern and grabbing the ball from there then walking it forward.

    Just wanted to say my first sailboat from San Diego bought it in Vancouver 34 ft no radar nor no radar reflector single engine Yanmar when coming around West Van close to Bowen Island at around midnight the wind died down very dark and I went to the bow a freighter from Squamish was coming directly in front close call. AIS, Radar is important never without them now. Also crossed the wake from a container ship that was steaming out from Vancouver saw it on my radar from 5 mile setting. The wake though it was one third of a mile when created by the ship when I crossed it in my 34 ft wooden fishing boat created such a shake hit it at a 45 degree angle only about 2-3 ft high the power in that small wave was tremendous in my heavy wooden. Take care.

      @@daveholley2156 We have a butcher at our local grocery store. I'll have to see if he knows what it is and cut some up for me. The bottom part of the sirloin shouldn't get much of a work out, I bet it's tender.

    Use your boat hook to undo the lazy jack from the battens, so you won’t have to struggle bringing the sail up and down a few times…or, you can just slack the leeward lazy jack when raising the sail..

  • @timnoneya811
    @timnoneya811 2 года назад +1

    Try dropping and securing your lazy jacks right before you hoist the main. that way they wont snag on your battens and risk damaging your main sail. I sailed down from seattle and have been running back and forth between long beach and cat harbor. if you see a Baba 40 named Decatur that's me.

    Christa, I am new to sailing and just bought a 27 ft Hunter 1981. Not a bad boat but not as nice as yours. I also am in DP Harbor. I noticed that you have a backup electric motor, an EPROPULSION 1.0. How does that work out for you? enough power to motor into the harbor with the usual late afternoon prevailing westerlies? Also, how long can you run the motor at whatever speed works for you? I am considering adding one to my sailboat for emergency use. 5 miles max before my LIFEPO4 100 amp/hour battery dies? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Al

    How do you know when the sail is at its proper tension on the wind & I noticed some sort of small medical device attached to your body! What is that medical device? Your channel is fun to watch since I live close & walk the harbor every day!

    • @CaptainChrista
      @CaptainChrista  2 года назад +1

      There are sail ties and tells and based on the direction of the wind you place your sails at a different point of sail! The harbor is a beautiful walk!
