Vigo Mortensen tiene acento de Argentina. Ha vivido en el pasado allí y vuelve bastante seguido. Incluso tiene hábitos y gustos propios de Argentina como la locura por el fútbol y es hincha de San Lorenzo de Almagro.
Te felicito. Soy de Latinoamerica, un pais que tuvo estrechas relaciones con US voy a practicar mi ingles, because of the Panama Canal. Ive heard the second or third generation latin descendants dont speak Spanish because previously the latinos were discriminated for speaking the language and their parents didnt teach them. Nowadays is the opposite, Spanish is very popular speacially with the media, singers, actors, etc., and maybe they regret not.being able to speak it. I believe that with the internet they realized that we are about 600 million including Africa New Guinea. Es triste lo que pasaba.xque hablar un idioma siempre es importante, pero los nativos se incomodan y les parece que estas hablando de ellos. El español es un idioma que tiene raices antiguas del latin, bien estructurado, con muchos ganadores de premios Nobel, y es realmente.tonto es prejuicio que se tenia.
Un único detalle, en el minuto 9:20, cuando Camila dice: Quería escribir una canción, porque lo sentí en mi corazón. El uso de “lo” es correcto, pues se refiere a que sintió un sentimiento (masculino). Este uso de “lo sentí” es raro pero congruente. El uso de “la” sugeriría que sintió la canción en su corazón, pero no es común en el español. ¡Excelente video, saludos desde México!

It's okay to have an accent. In actuality, we ALL have accents, no matter the language (this includes native speakers). If you're learning a new language, you can always focus on dialect/accent later! Naturally, you will begin to speak like the people you surround yourself with. Happy language learning!
Thank you so much for this. I've always been focusing on trying to do accents like Mexican or Dominican or Cuban, but this really helps.
The youtuber super Holly hasn't accent, actually she speaks spanish perfectly, she Is from USA
personally i always get the accent down first. i find it mad easy to learn accents. i don’t know if it’s actually difficult for people or if they just don’t be trying… 🤷🏾♂️
@@farahtheegreat1605, I would just focus on speaking. As a native Spanish speaker who grew up with Mexican parents, when I moved to Chile I picked up a Chilean accent. Then traveling around South America I started picking up other accents throughout the region by total accent just by using common words used in that country. Ex: Perú, Bolivia, Uruguay, Argentina, etc.
What we mean by accent is, your pronunciation and how you learned the alphabet

Vigo Mortensen, was born in NY.
The family moved to Venezuela, then Denmark, and eventually settled in Argentina. They lived successively in the provinces of Córdoba, Chaco, and Buenos Aires. Mortensen attended primary school and acquired a fluent proficiency in Spanish while his father managed poultry farms and ranches. At the age of 11 yrs ols moved back to USA. His accent is 💯 % from Argentina (and yes, he doesn't pronounce the s at the end, something very common in Argentina not all the time but a lot)

Edit out the misused big terms lady / ms and love (that only reflect me the only Lady / Ms / Mrs etc and the only lovable / loved / lovely being) and the misused Zodiac related term Gemini - all womyn are the exact opposite of lady/ms/other big terms, and the word like should be used instead of love!

P.S: Camila didn't have any error, when she said "Lo sentí en mi corazon" she didn't mean that she felt the song in her heart but that she had a feeling (Like she felt that feeling in her heart not the song).

Everyone in the world has an accent. EVERYONE. I have a lot of respect people who go out of their way to learn another language other than their own native one. It shows their respect for that culture, and I value so much their effort and dedication to learning it, even if their pronunciation is not the best.

I loved what you said at the end of this video. I am half American and half Mexican and don’t speak Spanish. I am very self conscious about my accent and didn’t think I would ever feel comfortable enough to try but here I am, putting my best foot forward, and I WILL be fluent one day. ❤
I kind of relate to you! I am also half American half Mexican, I was fortunate enough to grow up bilingual (and I'm talking equally fluent in both languages) ... but I got a lot of "teasing" from my Mexican side of the family about my pronunciation (having an "American" accent) and the occasional slipup with spelling/grammar (keep in mind I was a literal child and wasn't learning Spanish formally, only through speaking with my mother, so I was bound to mess up every once in a while). Because of that I grew up with a lot of anxiety over making a mistake or not sounding "Spanish" enough, despite literally being half Hispanic lol. I'm trying to get over it since being bilingual in the U.S. is seen as such a valuable skill, but the fear of messing up is still there. Here's to us working to overcome our insecurities and reclaim that part of ourselves!

@@hnicholeTHIS! I am half Cuban and half American. Like the OP, I’m not only self conscious of my accent, I also did not growing up speaking Spanish. Thank you for speaking up because not all of us who were raised by Hispanic parents grow up speaking the language. And it doesn’t make us any less Hispanic than someone who grew up speaking Spanish. Heritage can be passed down in many forms, not just through language.
@@MariaJackson100 100%! Being half and half is such a unique situation and I don't know anyone else irl who is like me. It's hard feeling like I'm not truly a part of either culture, like I'm neither a "real" American nor a "real" Hispanic. It's one of those things where if you're not part of the club, you'll never get it, so I love coming across other people like you on the internet who are like me!
When Camilla said “lo” she was referring to the feeling (sentimiento) which in fact it’s masculine.

As a native Spanish speaker, Camilla speaks Spanish the best.
I have had several native Spanish speakers, including my cousin from Colombia, say that knowing Spanish is more important than having a perfect accent. They themselves speak English with a Spanish accent and they always will. Being able to communicate is the most important thing.
Nativising one's accent is a fun thing to try, especially for those interested in linguistics. It reopens a skill that most of us lose in early childhood: the direct perception of sounds independent of phonemes in languages.

I natively speak Spanish and have a really weird accent in English so people don’t believe I am hispanic😢.
This is definitely true but we've all seen countless examples of people mocking others' accents and none of us enjoy being mocked.
I dont know why I watched this. I dont even speak spanish but what you said at the end about not being ashamed that you cant speak your ancestor language, really hit home. I was that one kid growing up around other kids who could speak their/my parents language while I struggled. I remember being so insecure about it. It didnt help when other kids and EVEN THEIR PARENTS would force me in such an aggressive manner to speak their language even when they could clearly see that I was uncomfortable, further ratifying my shyness. If someone like you had spoken to me at a young age about the importance of learning, I doubt I would have had such a bad relationship with my ancestors language.
If this resonates with you and you are still young, ignore those assholes, get away from them immediately. Those people may seem like the answer to improving your skills, but trust me, being further away will actually improve it more! At least it did for me😊
Will Smith was pretty good for someone that might not speak Spanish frequently. He was very clear and had good pronunciation.

Hola! Solo quería comentar que no hay "malos" acentos. Cuando un extranjero aprende nuestro idioma es normal que se note su acento, pero no es nada malo y lo entendemos perfectamente. Nunca tengáis miedo o vergüenza de hablar por tener acento 🙂

9:18 nate! En este caso, decir "lo" está bien dicho, ya que muchos hispanohablantes nos referimos a ello como si fuera algo en lo que estuvimos inspirados al hacerlo. Por ejemplo podemos reescribirlo y expresarlo de otra manera:
Suponiendo que nos ha pasado un suceso importante en nuestras vidas, y entonces es tan importante que ese evento lo queremos usar como motivación para inspirarnos.
"Me sentí inspirado por ello porque "lo" sentía en mi corazón, así que por eso hice la canción".
Espero sea un ejemplo sencillo de entender 😅 saludos

Learning spanish in school is so much different from actually learning it by visiting a spanish speaking country, you actually learn more and faster by being in that country surrounded by native spanish speakers. Also some spanish countries have their own dialects, so you might pick up some spanish words but being in the spanish country you get to learn their own dialects as well not just the universal spanish language.
In Spain we have 5 official languages, besides the different accents ☺

I especially like the message that you had towards the end of the video encouraging Latinos born or raised in the U.S. to not be ashamed of speaking Spanish and to keep trying to learn . Even though we might have an accent, the most important thing is that we are trying. Thank you for that!
The problem is not being ashamed for the language itself, in this case Spanish, the problem is that Spanish speaking parents who don not teach Spanish to their kids are ashamed of their status as immigrants or that they have manual, hard labor jobs and they think that has to do with their language.
My family has lost Spanish over the generations. My parents grew up speaking texmex spanglish they were ashamed of so they never passed it on. Their parents before that grew up in times when Spanish was outlawed in schools (in Texas). It was never a priority bcs the expectation was to assimilate to prevent hardship for the next generation. It didn't help that at the time it was being purpoted that teaching your kids Spanish along with English would hurt their brain development (a sentiment that some are afraid of even today). I'm the only one out of my generation in the family who is trying to learn Spanish. It shouldn't be as hard as it is, but I become easily humiliated and demoralized bcs I often come across people online making fun of people like me. It's a shame that's hard to shake.
I grew up bilingual but over the years I lost a lot of the ability to speak it correctly. I can understand it way more than I can speak it and I feel as if even my accent has taken a small toll. Sin embargo I’m studying the language much more deeply now and I aim to be able to write and understand it completely before I work on my accent and speaking.
And i don’t want to start a comment war but some of the shame some of us feel honestly comes from how many Native Mexicans make fun of us or call us gringos and even pochos (the word itself isn’t bad, but they use it in rude contexts) Like I get being proud of your nationality and language but it’s literally not our fault we grew up in an English speaking country and calling us whitewashed or making fun of our Spanish/accents (especially when they also get made fun of for their English) is just rude. Even if we grow up speaking Spanish alot of us lose our fluency over the years.

I'm also trying improve my speaking and being immersed in the language for years has helped me improve my accent fast and I'm grateful for that but looking back it's too bad I was shamed and became too embarrassed to practice when I was younger. Nate, el acento de Viggo al igual que Anya Taylor-Joy es de Argentina. Ellos vivieron muchos años aca, asique ese es el acento que escuchas. El acento español es muy distinto al nuestro e incluso algunos modismos como el "voseo". Te sugiero que busques algunos videos para comparar los acentos argentino y español y que te sirvan para enriquecer tu español. Saludos desde Neuquen, Argentina! 🔵⚪🔵
A lo mejor lo confundió con el acento español andaluz ya que tenemos algunas cosillas similares como aspirar las eses al final de las palabras. Aun así ambos acentos son inconfundibles para nosotros los nativos puede que para un no nativo les sea más difícil 😅
Viggo se fue como a los 8 y nunca más volvió hasta grande, eso es lo que más me sorprende de él. Al chabón lo escuchás hablar y literalmente parece el vecino de tu tía que nunca se alejó 30km de su casa jajajaja increíble

Very cool video and your Spanish is outstanding! As a native Spanish speaker (Dominican), I instantly heard your distinct Mexican accent, which is one of my favorites to listen to. Viggo Mortensen spent a long time in Argentina which I heard immediately when he pronounced "Yo" like "Sho". Props to all of the people for trying to speak Spanish, which is so beautiful in its diversity.
"Lo sentí en mi corazón" is completely correct in this context. Camila Cabello speaks perfect Spanish.

Thanks for letting us know! I find it odd that a non-native speaker would be telling us what’s used properly and what isn’t (in this context). Even if you’re fluent in a language that’s not your mother tongue, you’re bound to make a mistake somewhere. No hate to Nate though.

Lo sentí en mi corazón = Sentí eso en mi corazón = Sentí en mi corazón que quería hacer una canción.
Ese "lo" es el pronombre neutro, del cual apenas queda rastro en el español actual.
Al escuchar a Camila Cabello me ha parecido nativa 100%.
No quisiera decir que es correcto o incorrecto porque en el lenguaje es muy subjetivo. Sin embargo, decir "Lo sentí en mi corazón." es un pleonasmo, y esto se considera un vicio del lenguaje. Es obvio que si lo sintió, fue en su corazón, ya que es imposible que lo sienta en el corazón de alguien más. La expresión idónea sería "Lo sentí en el corazón."
Aún así, muchos países tienen muy arraigado estos vicios en el habla y no se escuchan mal en ciertos contextos.
@@ajh.4131 I get what you're saying but think about how "poorly" or "incorrectly" many native English speakers speak: "ME and HIM went to the store." "Neither one of them ARE ready." "The weather in both New York and New Jersey ARE cold." The same common errors happen with native Spanish speakers, and someone (like Nate) who spent years in the academic study of the language will have ears that are sensitive to these errors while native speakers are used to hearing them.
It's a little like having a grandma who is a retired English teacher!!
Just in case, when Camila Cabello said "LO sentía en mi corazón" she has to say "LO" because she is not talking directly about the song "la canción" which has the female article "la", but she was talking about "Hacer una canción" and it's weird and difficult, but when you talk about something gender neutral like "hacer algo" you have to use the male article "LO" like in "hacerlo", so you have to use "lo" in this case. IE: "quiero enseñarle las groserías colombianas a Nate, en serio LO digo :3".

Anyone who attempts to learn a language is A+ in my book. I don't care how well you can speak it or how good your accent is or if you mess up most of the time; its a beautiful connection you can start to feel with another people and another culture even if you can only just barely say a few things. This even happens on a smaller scale if you just learn a couple of sentences - everyone should be doing this.

No habla de la canción, habla del sentimiento que la llevó a hacer la canción, por eso está bien el "lo", si hablara de la canción, estaría hablando del objeto directo y si sería "la sentí"
De acuerdo. Aún cuando Nate dice que es un error, hubiera sonado muy feo si decía "la". No habria sonado como una nativa. En realidad sonó bien tal cual lo dijo. Nuestro oído nativo lo aprueba 😂

I've always been ashamed to speak my dad's language (Italian) with my relatives because I'm not fluent and have a strong accent. but it's such a silly thing to worry about since people are (mostly) very happy if you try to speak to them and it doesn't matter if you have an accent or not!😊

Viggo speaks perfect spanish. If I talked to him in spanish with my eyes closed there would be no way for me to know that he is not native from Argentina.

I’m a high school student in the US and I’m currently in my second year of Spanish. I found this video because I wanted to see how much Spanish I can understand and I’m surprised that I could somewhat understand what they were saying without the subtitles.
My opinion is that the goal for learning languages is to be able to understand and to be understood by many other people, and not to compete about the language level. 😉
In the first place of course. But for some and for me it is a goal to get to a level where you are comfortable with the language and can understand natives (who usually talk really fast and use slang or colloquial phrases)
Depends on the person! Everyone has different language goals.
Some people make it a competition. Just like native English speakers make fun of non-native speakers for their accents and their poor pronunciation, the same is true for the inverse.
Luka's Spanish was interesting because, while it sounded very good to my ears, his basketball vocabulary is probably associated with a particular language, perhaps his native language (Slovene?) or even English. My bilingual coworker for example always does math in Spanish even when he's speaking in English. It's easy to forget that becoming fluent in another language doesn't mean you know all of the vocabulary you know in your native language!
Luka spent a lot of time playing for Spain’s basketball team as a kid and to me it sounds very authentic. Also I feel like some sports vocabulary can be kinda confusing haha
It is more than that . Even if you know the numbers and names of math therms in English , if you have learned math in Spanish , your brain works better with the Spanish words .

I have to say that you're doing a great job, so big shout to you for helping others to understand our beautiful language. Didn't know so many celebrities actually did speak Spanish, among other languages. That's super interesting. Como brasileiro, falamos o português e gosto muito de assistir vídeos de gringo conversando em espanhol e italiano. Como sou autodidata, aprendi espanhol e italiano, acho muito interessante a similaridade das línguas latinas.

Camila Cabello habla perfectamente el español, yo no escuché ningún error en nada de lo que dijo. Y de hecho sí utilizó el pronombre correcto al decir "lo sentí en mi corazón" :)

@Luna Midori Sano Davila No es que no hable como nativa, es que su madre es cubana y su padre es mexicano, ella vive en EE,UU desde los 7 y solo se comunicaba en español con ellos, por eso tiene un acento neutro porque es la mezcla de 2 acentos (el mexicano y el cubano)
@@williamroberti no es un acento neutro, una cosa es acento marcado, otra distinta el acento neutro, el acento neutro es cuando no se distingue de dónde es la persona que lo habla, para producciones audiovisuales, noticieros, eventos, etc. Y por ello se debe ser claro, y que no se perciba un acento regional en específico, y sonar "más elegantes", y formales. Los latinos no hablamos español neutro en nuestro diario vivir, pues todos tenemos regionalismos, y al hablarlo con fluidez y sin un discurso preparado no hablamos un perfecto español, como sucede con el acento neutro. El acento marcado, que en este caso es el de Camila, como el de la mayoría que lo hablan bien pero no lo dominan o no lo practican seguido, es cuando la persona se esfuerza demasiado por pronunciar bien una palabra, entonces no se escucha natural, además de que quien tiene acentos marcado piensa demasiado en que decir y como pronunciarlo, y eso impide que haya fluidez.

Genial vídeo. Como único detalle, cuando Camila dice así LO sentía en mi corazón, está perfectamente dicho. No se refiere a que sentía la canción como tal, en ese caso sí sería LA sentía, sino al hecho de escribir una canción en español (se trata de una omisión).
Ejemplo en el que se usaría LA:
Me gustó mucho la canción, LA sentía como si fuese escrita por mi.
Ejemplo con LO:
Compuse esta canción triste en escala menor, porque así fue como LO sentía.
PD: el hecho de que sea capaz de en esta situación decir LO de manera correcta, denota que tiene nivel nativo de español.

En español "¿Como está ?" no esta mal, de echo "¿Cómo está?" se usa para referirte de manera más respetuosa hacia una persona.
"¿Cómo estás?" se utiliza en un ambiente más familiar por así decirlo.
Creo que se refiere a que se "come" (o no pronuncia) la S al final de "estás" y la A se pronuncia más abierta. Es muy común en el sur de España no pronunciar las consonantes finales, al igual que pasa en algunos sitios de Hispano América, como en Argentina.

In Spanish, when we want to say someone speaks "quietly" decimos: "habla bajito" en vez de, 'callado'. The term 'callado;' refers to when someone is either shy/introvert (el es callado), or simply when someone it is just being quiet and not saying much.

You should really learn Spanish your missing out a lot by not knowing it. It really comes in handy in terms of business, travelling to Latin America and within your own community.
@@lutfisksoppa2122 I see "comprehensive input" being thrown around like solution for everything but it really isn't. If you understand what's being said/written but struggle speaking then you don't need any more input, this is a sign that you had too much input and your comprehension skills are too high compared to the level at which you can speak. -- This might be good or bad depending on what you want to achieve. If your goal is to communicate in the language then this is kinda bad and what you need is not more input (because that's how you got here in first place) but actually producing some output be it translating, speaking with natives, taking conversation classes or perhaps just reading out loud.
There's no shame in taking spanish classes as a latino!
there's something that a lot of native Spanish speakers do and that is omit the subject when talking. instead of camila saying, "sentí el sentimiento en el corazón." she omitted the subject, in this case 'el sentimiento' and she substituted it with 'lo' which in Spanish is a neutral article. "lo sentí en el corazón" is a correct sentence with the subject being omitted. she's not talking about the song (la canción) she's talking about the sentiment, what she felt (el sentimiento).

The subject in that sentence is "yo", not "sentimiento", which actually is the direct object. In this case, "lo" is a masculine direct object pronoun; it's not neutral 😊
@@18EPC i’m a native spanish speaker who did all her schooling in spanish. there’s such a thing as “sujeto omitido” which is what i was commenting on. the word “lo” can and is considered a collective neutral, which is what i meant and it’s how camilla used it in her sentence.

Como nativa de la lengua española puedo decirles, con toda honestidad, que el hecho de que estudien e intenten hablar nuestro idioma siempre se percibe como algo positivo. Además, no hay cosa más sexy que escuchar el español con acento extranjero.

I felt that so deep😭 my grandma didn’t teach her children and now we suffer with not understanding or speaking it. Congrats on your awesome Spanish. I moved to Canada at a very young age from Cuba. My Spanish became very shaky but in my business I came across a lot of Latinos. So I made a conscious effort to improve my mother tongue. It has been very beneficial for me over the years. And of course Spanish music is the best.
To go back to 9:35 you said she made a mistake about saying LO instead of LA you're actually incorrect, she said lo senti en mi corazon... she was referring to her feelings her "sentimiento" therefore she said it correctly.

Como una nativa del idioma español se siente hermoso que los extranjeros se interesen en nuestro idioma sin importar el acento que tengan, muy contrario a lo que he percibido de los nativos de habla inglesa que se molestan o fingen no entenderte solamente porque saben que hablas español 🤷♀️ creo que el solo hecho de hablar un idioma ajeno es motivo de respeto y admiración.
Me gusta mucho el consejo que le diste a las personas al final del video. Es hermoso aprender idiomas, porque habre las puertas a mucho conocimiento en esta vida.

Accents make you interesting! I teach high school Spanish and sometimes my Spanish isn't perfect because I grew up in south Texas and my parents didn't speak proper Spanish...but I always tell my parents as long as I'm getting the point across that's all that really matters!

Se entiende el mensaje que quiere dar cada uno, yo creo que con eso es suficiente para decir que su manejo del lenguaje está bien. Eso es algo bueno del español, si alguien habla sin cumplir exactamente con todas las reglas gramaticales, o sin pronunciación perfecta, de todas maneras hay palabras clave que hacen que le puedas entender sin problema. Algo que, a la inversa, al menos a mí no me pasa con el inglés. Si pronuncio ligeramente mal una palabra, es probable que no se me entienda nada.
PD: me encantó el tono de Viggo, es indistinguible de un argentino.
I was absolutely stunned with Viggo Mortensen's Spanish. It is through and through Spanish from Rio de la Plata. I'm not from there myself, but like probably a lot of Latinos who grew up with certain TV media, we are very aware to it. It has the characteristic phoneme /ʃ/ for the Y and LL, as well as S-supression common in a lot of other areas of Spanish, the use of vos for the second person singular. If I didn't know who he was and I heard him on the street, I would not distinguish him from a native speaker tbh. Absolutely amazing.
Just looked up he actually grew up in Argentina, he was there until he was 11, so yes, of course he has a native fluency! It certainly took me by surprise haha

Muchas personas del este de Europa tienen una habilidad sorprendente para aprender lenguas extranjeras y creo que porque tienen una gama de fonemas bastante grande en sus lenguas nativas, además de que su estructura gramatical es más compleja que las lenguas occidentales. Algo adicional es que muchos conservan la mística y disciplina de aprendizaje de las antiguas sociedades socialistas donde la educación era muy estricta.
Luka Doncic, esloveno, llegó a España a los trece años, donde se quedó a jugar con el Real Madrid (baloncesto) hasta que se fue a la NBA con 17-18 años. Kristaps Porzingis, letón (no eslavo; aunque también hay muchos de etnia rusa en Letonia y por lo tanto eslavos), jugo durante varios años baloncesto profesional en España antes de marcharse a la NBA. Por lo tanto, es en España donde ambos aprendieron el Español. El compañero de equipo mencionado en el vídeo con quien también hablan en español para que no se enteren los contrarios, es el portorriqueño JJ Barea. Otro baloncestista de la NBA que habla perfectamente español, porque se crió en España, en Málaga concretamente, es Domantas Sabonis, el hijo del legendario jugador Lituano Arvydas Sabonis. Serge Ibaka, igualmente que aunque es congolés, jugó en España un tiempo, se nacionalizó y jugó con la selección española. Luego futbolistas hay muchísimos que aprendieron español porque jugaron muchos años allá. Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane, Benzema, etc.
Soy una maestra retirada, enseñé español por 20 años. Lo hablas muy bien y recuerda que todos tenemos acentos. Yo vengo de una isla bien pequeña donde dependiendo de la ciudad de la que venimos, hablamos con un acento diferente!

Pronunciation is more important than the accent, everyone has an accent, that is nothing to be ashamed of.
I'm trying to learn too. I feel the vast majority of people will be kind, understanding, and empathetic considering for many the reverse is true, and they may have had to learn *English* as a second language. They may even politely correct you so you can learn. Sure, you might encounter some jerks, but try not to let that hold you back.
Soo true with feeling shame/embarrassment about not knowing Spanish for people who have Latin ancestry. I’m half Puerto Rican and just started seriously studying Spanish again….been making my dad practice with me even if I feel embarrassed. Just subscribed :)

Me encantó tu video! El acento de Viggo Mortensen es Argentino, ya que su niñez la pasó allá. El español es muy variado y los dialectos regionales lo hacen todavia más interesante, porque los sustantivos pueden tener significados diferentes dependiendo del país en el que el hablante se ubique.
