My husband. Grew up POOR. Now he wants something to show for his work. Buys a motorcycle without saving for it. Its fun being the B in the relationship when it comes to finances.
That sick feeling she said she feels when doing bills is fear. I used to have that feeling. I actually just needed to buy fuel for heating my house and got that sick feeling again but went through my finances and realized I had more than enough. That sick feeling went away. Fear is abated when you take control of your finances I stead of your finances controlling you.
He really ticked me off when he kept referring to using a credit card for Paris. You don't get it I thought Gail would only give them 4,000 for that remark xs 2
**Edit** Gail says at the end it was already cooked into their debt repayment. Im thinking she locked it down on something. That pissed me off too. But I'm thinking that's why Gail gave them the full 5K she KNEW come hell or high water they were going to Paris - the wife did say on the ice that Paris is for a family thing so I'm guessing it's a pretty important event. If they're willing to shun their new lessons (not using credit and saving instead) and make that trip priority 1 over their fun trips (Mexico and Florida). At least that's what I'm thinking.
I think that maybe the producers made her give them the 5k. I read somewhere that one of the reasons she stopped making these shows was because she was forced to give more money that she thought was fair- which defeats the object.
I’m surprised Gail gave them the whole $5k after dude said he wanted to put his Paris trip on a credit card! 🤦🏾♀️Why they’re not renting out the basement; or better yet, live in the basement and rent out the upper apartment to get more rent money, is beyond me! They’re a cute couple though. They seem really in love!
They can't rent out the house. It isn't safe to legally rent. There is no railing on the stairs and there is unfinished work everywhere. It would be a legal/safety nightmare.
i was stressing yesterday when i had to take cash out on my cc since my debit was stolen and i had to pay for daycare and they just taking whole trips on credit 🥴
What i love is when they say i work hard .but when they see the debt they are in.all the laughing and joking turn around. Well no more joking and the smile are gone.
Three major trips in one year? Wow, this couple does not make a lot of money. There’s really no reason why they haven’t put in a rod in that closet I mean how long can that take?
They were making a very decent income for here in Canada 16-17 years ago (when this episode was filmed). Today they would probably be earning twice that (incomes have had to go up a lot in that time). Now there is no such thing as affordable houses here. Everything is over $1m.
Just realized that if someone fell and hurt themselves, they would have been sued. Do they even have insurance on the house? It looks like she and her parents have too much faith in Shannon! That railing should have been fixed first and her parents should have taken a more active role. Where will they live if they actually manage to flip the house?
I'd be pissed if I invested and the people turning it around quickly unpacked and stayed in the property why not unpack bare minimum and store the rest somewhere else.
I suspect it was partly for the emotional relief it would give this couple, and again, staging the home for resale will have to be done anyway - homes sell quicker and for a better price if properly staged for the buyers to view.
@@k.s.k.7721 Yeah. They would need to stage it anyway and other than their personal photos, the rest of what they did is helpful for selling. The blinds and closet rod and artwork on the walls will all make the place look better to buyers.
My understanding was that they were going to pay off mortgage while the investors(parents) invested the down payment. They were to continue to live there until the work done but they weren't getting anything finished. I'm surprised Gail didn't make them do the unfinished projects to put their house on the market. I wonder what that house is worth now. The RE market went down in 2008 but since went steadily up. They should have bought the house themselves & rented basement. Stop doing things like eating/drinking out and stupid purchases (but I'm speaking from 20/20 hindsight... we all make mistakes lol)
I hope people don't take contractors words at face value any more. Multiply everything by 3. 3 months and $50 000 estimate becomes 9 months and $15 0000. Get used to it.
Airbnb comes with additional fees, like keeping the place clean as wel as the rest of the house so the guests could use it. Broke people shouldn’t be landlords lol
I suggest they simply KEEP the home. I despise parents who use their kids to make money, like his did. My junior high crush has CFS and his DAD makes HIM do all of the work on flipping HIS homes for him-just like here. All so THEY save $15,000 in labor costs.
When i heard how much she makes as a teacher i get upset when i think how teachers complain they arent getting paid enough, because i make 10,000 dollars a year, with barely enough to save. And i had to get help to get a mortgage.
Please stop undervaluing teachers. The profession requires a bachelors and a master’s degree which many school districts don’t pay for. Next teaching 65-120 students everyday is not easy. Next administration tasks that require you to take work home. Essentially working 60-80 hours a week. So no teachers aren’t paid enough.
I don’t see how it’s “ I make less then you so you can’t complain” and not “ both of us need to be paid what we are worth” like …it’s not the suffering Olympics here people.
Teachers in Canada make more than their counterparts in the US. When you factor out location, education and experience, Canadian teachers make at least 2 times more than American teachers.
I getta kick out people who think they deserve everything they want 'cause we work hard.' Don't they realize pretty much everybody works hard?
They probably think everyone spends like they do.
No impulse control

Threw an actual fit when I told him we bought mortgage insurance though.

Amen to that Judy, I am trying my best to take control now while binging this show (for free of course lol)
They’re adorable- wishing them well!
As an American I would GLADLY give up a trip to Florida for a trip to Paris or anywhere overseas😂
The motivation for paying off debt is that you will actually keep that money on payday, not just pass that money on to a debtor.
Good lord, they are absolute children!
Even after cutting expenses and bringing in more money, they’re still living close to the edge.
Lol Gail is the OG "b****, you live like this!" Meme

9:41 It's serious business when Gail admits that even she.....can't balance this couple's monthly budget!
By not having an OK place to live, as Gail pointed out they maybe escaping it by leaving on vacation!

Who wants to bet they didn’t use some or all of that check on their trip?

It he was working hard, that house would be almost done!
They seem very entitled and childish. Living with in your means is part of being an adult.
The 4 over 5 plan sounds like a dream. I wish we had that in the U.S.!
This couple did not deserve that $5000. cheque.

Lovely fun loving couple 😊 who learnt some valuable lessons from the fabulous Gail 👍👍

Here in Canada you absolutely are required to have home insurance if there is a mortgage - so yes, they would have insurance.
I'd be pissed if I invested and the people turning it around quickly unpacked and stayed in the property why not unpack bare minimum and store the rest somewhere else.
I thought the same thing, not to mention taking so long to finish and get it on the market.

Entitlement is a hell of a drug
Hasn't it crossed their minds that the trips will still be there next year, in two, five, ten years? They actually could wait a bit?
Christine Butler Dionne and Shannon clearly don't know the difference between need and want.
One major trip every five years is more reasonable, and only if they can afford it without using debt.
Plus, their trips are the travel equivalent of dinner at Chili’s - expensive, predictable, and really nothing to brag about.
Yes another great success. 🍷🌷🐦🌞
Cute couple
Cute couple! 🙂 They make me smile. They should not take any trips at all, though. No way. Put money on the mortgage.
Save your money and stop telling yourself you deserved to be in debt because you want a vacation. Insanity
😬3 trips in one year? Sound like trust fund babies.
Wait til these guys have kids and not every dollar is disposable income

Very good question. Is he a licensed contractor, at least?
when he said he never paid a bill 😮
the remaining rennovation bugdet was $1200??
He did all of the work for the house, and I think he is more realistic than her. She seems very sheltered from reality :O
plus it will help them sale later
In America we have been conditioned to spend. It’s a shame but true.
You're right, though this particular show is Canadian.
