The full moon over the waves is an exceptional shot. We recently lived in Texas for 11 yrs but cancer left me behind 5 yrs ago. The beach warmed my heart and flooded my mind with many memories. Thanks for the memories!!
I lived in Houston for many years, but now live on a farm in the country. Seeing those familiar freeways and remembering the treacherous traffic brought such a wave of anxiety I was shocked. I had told myself "never again" and now its cast in cement. You are braver than me, by a long shot!
I knew I recognized that beach. You look more comfortable driving the new truck. Looking good Slim. I know I have said this before but I am loving the goatee. I think it is all the white you have now to. One handsome man. Skyline shots were picturesque. Thank you. Hugs!
Always a pleasure to catch a new Slim episode! We are full time RV travelers and try to avoid major cities and their gridlocks if possible. We will travel out of our way to do so. Atlanta, Houston and Dallas are major headaches! Glad you made it to South Padre. We are headed that route next winter ourselves then up to CA, OR and WA as winter recedes. It's a wonderful life traveling!
October 17, 2024 Maryland, USA: I continue to enjoy your journey's everywhere. One thing to mention although your days are long driving, I am very impressed with how you are dressed and presentable. Always your t-shirts appear to be always pressed, jeans to shorts just really casual but presentable. Thank you for visiting the lower 48. My family on dad's side is from Pickering, Ontario which I hope to visit a historic store for the Wise Family. Thank you again for wonderful visits. Stay safe and well.
Another excellent video, sitting on my couch waiting for the cab to take to the bus station. Bus to Calgary, plane to Vancouver, Taipei, Hanoi and then Danang. Vietnam for 72 days bought a motorbike and will hit the entire country plus Cambodia and Laos.
Welcome back to Texas! Really have enjoyed watching all your videos since I discovered them recently . When I started watching, you were already in New Brunswick. Found out through earlier videos that you lived in Alberta. Quick story: we had a little house fire in 2019. We have some folks in town that moved here from Edmonton Alberta a few years ago. Some of their good friends from Edmonton had their big camper trailer down here. The truck that they pulled it with broke down and was not repairable. They could not afford to buy a truck here with the exchange rates I’m guessing. They wanted up, renting a U-Haul and took their stuff back up north. However, they left their travel trailer here in MountPleasant for us to live in as temporary housing while the house was being repaired. Our friends here in town would later sell that travel trailer for them. Kind people exist all over our globe, and we were blessed by this family from Edmonton. I hope your trip is wonderful and that you run into some more wonderful people while you’re here. Kris Mt P, TX
I spent many weekends at South Padre Island and many Spring breaks. I grew up in a small town "Los Fresno's about 15 miles from there. Miss South Padre.❤
Good morning from Godley Texas, when I head out to camp I have my map app set to NO INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. Takes a little longer, but it's less stressful and you get to visit small towns.
Sylvia, I think you misinterpeted my travels. I do take the secondary roads most of the time, however Houston was a rare exception which can be hard to get around as it is so huge. Now passed, I can now enjoy those roads less traveled! SP
Good video Slim, I really enjoy your travels. Your truck is holding up well and I agree that trying to go the free route has its drawbacks, and as I get older washrooms are a big one.
Many years ago I was crawling across west Texas during a night time snow fall on I10. Road was icy, my 75 Firebird with fat tires did not like it, I could only crawl at 15MPH without slipping and sliding. A huge Winnebago RV passed me at high speed. A mile ahead, the highway turned, the Big Winny didn't! 😮 He was on his side as I passed him by, a Texas Trooper already onscene. I made it where I was going. 😊 Being a Native Floridian, I still, decades later, hate driving on snow and ice. Give me sand and mud any day! 😅
Love your videos and envy your ability to travel. You are living a life so many of us would love to do. Thank you for taking us along. We promise not to anoy you so keep the videos coming. Stay safe. Also love your easy going nature.
@@SlimPotatohead Thank you Slim , I would not miss a video that you put out. Thank you for taking us along on your travels. I look forward to every video from you. 👍💯
Next time you want some coast camping in Texas try Bolivar flats. It is wide, calm, lots of birds and ships. There is a free part and part you need a $10 annual permit for. Also near is anahuac national wildlife sanctuary. There is a drive around a pond, shoveler pond that is full of birds in the winter and alligators when it is warm. Also free.
Used to spend a lot of time out there. Agreed it is very beautiful with the birds. The sunsets can be quite stunning with the sun setting through the smog of Houston to the west.
Happy safe travels! As an RN I have seen the results of reckless drivers and the results of those who were victims of such drivers. Stay safe and ignore those think otherwise!
Hello Slim loving your travels, I never liked driving in the big cities and the freeways especially.. The beach there is awesome..thank you for sharing!
That tunnel you showed yourself driving through at the start of the video is my hometown. I live in the Mobile and Baldwin County Alabama area. You're welcome back anytime.
That was some nature video ! Sunsets, waves, shore birds, night sky moon, and fog. The fisherman in the fog was a nice shot. I took my maiden trip out to full time this year. Talking to others about those flocks of speeding drivers and the anxiety . They passed on to me To be the Rock the River flows Around . A zen- ner. state of mind I guess. I treasure the tips my fellow travelers share with me .
Well atleast you went through my state again although I live in north west Louisiana off I 20 lol wish I could have waved at you passing by have a safe trip
Hello Slim. As fellow Maritimers, we usually leave about mid December and find ourselves passing through Houston about 1 in the morning right around Christmas. Traffic is not so bad that at time of day . We have spent time on Padrae Island, at the Corpus Cristi end. Yes, the high tide got a little close at times, and the salt air left quite a nasty film on our van. But we weren't shoveling snow , so we were happy. Really enjoyed your video, and we will try the Brownsville end next time. All the best, Ben
Love the ocean. The beach never gets old because it's different each day. Safe travels Slim on your trip out West to warmer temps. Enjoy and stay well.
Too cool to see you in my neighborhood (South Padre Island). Sorry the weather wasn't cooperating. Hope you will be back soon one day. I know that drive takes forever to get here. Safe travels.
What beautiful sunsets! I'm glad you didn't get stuck in the beach sand. That would've been terrible after sitting in all that traffic. Where are you going next, Slim? Maybe Arizona 🤷♀️. Enjoy wherever you travel. May the good Lord keep you safe 🙏.
It's never a wise idea for any RUclipsr to state where they are going, only where they were. Yes, there have been stalking incidents involving RUclipsrs in the past ... until they smartened up.
Lived in Corpus Christi a while. Spent time on that very beach with family…enjoyed the waves, the sun and the stiff breeze. My wife loved it. I avoid driving through Houston…at all cost. When I saw that beef sandwich I thought you had made a big change in your veggie diet. Then you explained, heh, heh…. Good mantra, “Freedom is not always free”. Yep, a car wash after the beach camp is a must. Safe and sound travels, from East Tennessee.
I first discovered your channel when you were on north padre island. I’ve stayed with your channel ever since. I’m glad you’re doing well. I’ve enjoyed your Cabin rehab I’m glad you took a break from the remodel and got away for a bit. Stay safe stay healthy
Oh !!! man !!! you are so close to Boca chica SpaceX launch facility 😲 ...I hope you went there..in April of 2021 I was boondocking there for two nights... right at the beach....by the rocket .... Never forget that experience... Sunset with the rocket in the picture 😜 ...!!!! Fantastic...
WOW! You have made it a long way since last video! You certainly needed a little rest on the beautiful sea shore! Can't wait to see where you end up next! Perhaps Big Bend?! Long drive! We took 6 days pulling our 26 ft trailer from Southern Ontario to Benson AZ! Safe travels, Slim!
I learned to drive in I94 in Detroit so I understand the traffic and the crazy roads. I will get to Texas on of these days. I will go back roads whenever I can. Enjoy your videos.
As someone who grew up in Houston and now living across country, I always tell ppl coming back home to Houston, gives me the chance to get the old driving skills back in check. If you can navigate Houston freeways/traffic you can drive anywhere. The only place worse is Naples Italy.
Well hello, glad to see you left winter behind. We spent a lot of time in Texas over the years, Padre Island as well. We boondocked there but then stayed in a park in Weslaco, it was central and we toured all over until we went back west to arizona . You brought back many memories for us. Then back to alberta to springtime.
I waved at you when you went by! Since I was in the Waco area you probably didn't see me, but I waved anyway! Enjoy your drive, and may the weather Gods be in your favor.

I know the anxiety. I lived there for 10 years. I’m convinced the traffic and commuting aged me 10 extra years.
Grew up in Dickinson. The traffic through Houston is terrifying. Glad to live 4 hours away from that mess.
