- Meter Gauge MG trains NFR . Watch India's most dangerous and scenic Rail road in interior Assam .METER GAUGE TRAIN (MG) ON YDM4 Locomotive, North East Frontier , NFR.This is one of the most adventurous, scenic , most beautiful and the most risky Meter Gauge Rail Road of the Indian Railways - North East Frontier Zone located in the Indian State of Assam.

This was one of the terrains which I wanted to explore since ages and luck finally struck me when its high time for the section to undergo Broad Gauge Conversion . Never the late I made it .
The video will justify why this section is known as the most beautiful stretch, how ever what is so risky about this Section ?
There are two kinds of risk that one can encounter in this section.
The first one being frequent Land slides which can leave your train stranded in the midst of the dense forests for several hours or even days until restoration. The terrain receives the highest rain fall round the year. The road connectivity is very poor and is not easily accessible from the Rail route.
The second one being a major risk with the presence of local insurgent - terrorist groups living deep inside the forests who often tend to harm the travelers and Railway authorities .
There have been several instances from the recent past that these activist groups have opened fire at a approaching train, brutally killing people on board the train for valuables and money, kidnapping the Security Personnel's , bomb blasts on moving trains, blowing off Railway tracks , vandalizing railway property and many more such devastating incidents . This is one of the main reasons why the tourists fear to explore this dangerous section .
With extreme risk surrounding this corridor, I still dared to take a chance to explore this section . The most daring and the thrilling part of this trip was Foot plating all alone on the YDM-4 Locomotive in the dense forests and ghats sections. I bet this journey was the most memorable & thrilling one I've ever had in my life so far.
The video is shot on board the Lumdning - Silchar - Lumding Barak Valley Express. The video covers the scenic spots from River Dyang , Haflong hill, Jatinga ,Harangajao & Barak River. Hope you enjoy the North East.

We missed so so much..
Thank you so much for this video.
This is the beauty of North East. I'm from Tripura I even don't remember how many times I travelled through this way..my uncle is a Loco Pilot(Train Driver) he is stationed in Badarpur Jn Assam I travelled many times with him at locos and the scene is just amazing..
but now broaudgauge railway service
started so now train not going through this way but you can still see the old MG track from new BG track.new BG track is not as beautiful as MG but still beautiful..
How can I go there from guwahati?
India's Northeast is really beautiful and definitely a place to explore.. Good that this government is taking taking steps to bring northeast more limelight.
Thanks for the video :)
The video brought back my memories of 1982 December when I was working at first job as a probationary officer in State Bank of India, Haflong. Its the mist wonderful place I have ever see in India.
Thank you so much for sharing your memories , its indeed a HeaveN on Earth !
I don't know whether I'll be able to visit North India or not. But thanks for sharing the eye soothing video of Northern Eastern Railways. The scenery, the people and and vegetation made me smile.
Unfortunately...its not world heritage site...otherwise,indian rly wouldnt have that power to stop this service...like DHR is running to its full glory till date...the locals have not much interested in saving their heritage...nobody even raise their voice to declare world heritage site earlier...now, its gone, rly line is removed...its history now...long live british engineering
This is very bad news. Four mountain railways are preserved in India. This one by its exceptional character merited to be it.
Very sad,,,,it should be declared as world heritage site.
Truth ... If it was preserved then we could have seen an active MG line
But now replaced by BG system, it still follows the same route more or less.
This video is extraordinary. What a beautiful railway line with bridges and tunnels. Locomotive engines roar. The tormented landscape is grandiose, angles of view are perfect and the colors are beautiful. The reddish brown of passenger cars contrasts with the richness of the greens of the vegetation. You make me dream that I live in France 7100 km from you. I like the Indian railways with a clear preference for the metric gauge. The YDM 4 diesel locomotives and Jessop passenger cars are incomparably beautiful. Thank you so much for making us enjoy this trip.
Super awesome....
Brilliant capture...!!
Amazing railway video one of the best that I watched on web !
I have travelled by this route a number of times during my childhood and the last time was in the year 1996. Every journey has been a breathtaking experience. It is extremely sad that the Indian Railways have simply abandoned this route. At least to keep alive the amazing uniqueness of the route, some portion could be restored and maintained as a relic of bygone years.
Lovely I really missing my childhood when I love the chugging of these YDM4 Locos 👌😍
The views are of Dima Hasao district of Assam.

I might never see such a spectacular train route maybe, in my life, fearing all the naxal issues there. After 4:40, the blue sky and green hills were just awesome. Thanks for this video
Welcome & Thank You so much for watching !
Krishnan RV there is no naxal issues in north east man!!!!
Not naxal movement....no naxals in NE like mentioned in the comment above...they're all separatist struggles

Very well documented. You have done justice to the beauty. Thanks.
Very beautiful nature views in journey.. YDM4 locos are superb...
FYI, this railway line was constructed during British Indian times, 1898 to 1903. So, its > 100 years old. Now, this meter gauge line is no longer operational and is being replaced with the broad gauge line

Very interesting. My father worked as station master at Tista Junction on the East Bengal Railway 1944-45 when the US Army Transportation Corps operated the line. I always have wanted to see this railroad and the country side.
