This video brings back sweet-sad memories! Southern Railway had a beautiful ~ 750 km long metre gauge section. The first 150 km of the route till Villupuram was electrified, and the lovely Hitachi-Mitsubishi-Toshiba YAM1 electric locos which I think were unique to the Chennai Egmore -south MG route, hauled the trains at a brisk pace till there. From Villupuram the YDM 4 diesel locos took over! Then came the iconic Vaigai Express during late seventies. What a train it was! Beautiful yellow-green livery, including the YDM 4 loco. It was given a diesel loco from start to finish, to avoid loco switching at Villupuram. Top speed 105 kmph! Did a round trip from Madurai to Chennai and back on the same day, covering some 900 km. The thrill of travelling by that train is unmatched to this day! I don't get so much pleasure even while travelling by the Vandebharat express now!
Bahut dukhi ho rha YDM4 ko iss tarah dekh ke jaise yeh Hume pukar rhe he, jo bolo YDM4 ki chugging Sound kafi jabardast hoti he hum ise kabhi nhi bhulenge ☺️☺️☺️😍😍💖💖

Change is sometimes difficult but you get yourself a new car and move on... What becomes obsolete is often wrapped in memories... Great video...shukria...
These wonderful Locos with distinctive start up and running sound brought smile into everyone. I have thoroughly enjoyed these YDM locos esp. in their super fast speed of 110 kmph. in TN's Vaigai express. Now the memory is in Ooty Coonoor line where YDM 4 will live for long. Change to broad gauge is inevitable as goods can be transported w/o break and people can travel all over India in one train. Thanks for this nice video.
OMG.. There's something in this scenery background which is forcing me to visit this place.. Less populated.. Green environment.. Clean air.. Loved it.. Such a silent place...
Really Mark? Most probably you must had driven the engines outside India. Where are you from, by the way. You have been extremely fortunate. So, happy memories 😊😊. But I feel sorry for these engines that they have been removed nearly totally 😣😣.
In the next 5 to 10 years, The train coaches which we have at present will be very hard to find, as Several Indian trains are going to be replaced by 'train 18' and 'train 20'. Even though these new trains will be much better, I will be missing the present blue trains 😢
It needs a lot of money. And Indian Railways will run Broad Gauge in future. Because Broad Gauge can carry Trucks, Buses and Army Tanks on its Flat Bed wagons. Also Broad Gauge is faster and supports higher Axle Load.

In the 80's & early 90's the fastest (super-fast & mail) MG trains were pulled by the YDMs.... The Vaigai & Pallavan express trains of the 80's were green & gold liveried, 9-10 coach MG super-fasts, pulled by a similar liveried Golden Rock YDM4, that covered the 480 km between Chennai-Egmore & Thiruchi / Madurai in the SAME time that a BG version (pulled by a WAP7 / WDP4D) takes today.... That's actually quite amazing. The train would maintain 100-105 kph for long stretches of what was then a single-MG single, unelectrified line past Chengalpet.. In the North-West, the Ashram Express (Ahmedabad-Delhi), the Suryanagari Express (Ahmedabad-Jodhpur), and the Pink City Express (Delhi-Jaipur) were similar colorful & fast trains.... The Ashram (17 coaches, Twin YDM's) had 2-3 stops along an entire 15 hour journey of 950km.

Finally Indians should stop fucking ..
Fortunately, these are not completely vanished yet. It is in use in our Bangladesh Railways fleet as class 2800, working from 1996 onward. Though, within some time, these will be vanished from our fleet too.

I agree with you . All I am saying is please look at all other electrified railway line poles all around in INDIA and everywhere in the whole world.
