Anytime John sings I'm in Paradise....one of my all time favourites. Beautiful song written by Ross Wilson who originally wrote it for himself and his own band Mondo Rock and it had a very mild success. But then he gave it to John who blew the roof off with it. Ross jokes about how much money he now makes from it.

I read one of the reasons he wasn’t big in the U.S. was because the record labels couldn’t ‘pigeon hole’ him into a certain genre of music so they weren’t interested in him.
Later John also chose not to push the U.S market because of all the promotional stuff/travelling he would have to do with a young family. There’s an interview out there somewhere where he says it. Might have been with Roy and HG but I can’t quite remember.
Great reaction as usual. I’m glad so many Americans can now discover what they missed out on. It’s never too late to find your favourite singer.

Hey mate thanks for doing my request. It was my mum's favorite song, she was lucky to see john 3-4 times during his career. They just do not make music like this anymore, it has been written very well and performed to perfection by John and his band.
From what i hear John wanted to stay in Australia because he did not want to put the pressure of traveling on his wife and kids. Like the outstanding human John is his family comes first and his fans here in Australia have been blessed to have him perform for so long. Thanks again.

John was signed to another manager. He insisted John be called Johnny and wear suits at 18. Then he had to sing songs that made old ladies take him to number one and 10 year olds. It was not cool to like him but he has always been polite and kind. Then that manager put him into stage productions and even a Pantomime. I used to hate those when I was little and my Mother dragged me to see them, she liked them. He even put him in things like Pippin.
John was off the music scene for about 7 years I think. His best friend became his manager and he wanted people to see the real John. He did that with the Whispering Jack Album and before that no one here or in America would sign him. So Glenn and John made it themselves. Glenn Wheatley changed how we listen to music in Australia and he changed radio stations with FM. After they made that album no one would play or listen to it. John said in an Interview in his first 25 years with number one hits. He only made money for the last five but Whispering Jack shut them all up. John sang so many songs with meanings,I think mine would be Burn For You.

His music will live for generations especially in this country

All the songs from John's vast performances are still relevant today. I believe he moves so many people because he commits to the song heart and soul. The emotions are real, the passion is real. But mostly he connects on such a deeper level to the audiences than just about any other performers. He is the ultimate entertainer. John did tour a little overseas...but we are so far away and in those days flights etc were 24 hours or more. He toured with Little River Band in the US. I'm just glad that we have so much footage of his performances to share with great 'reactors' like your good self

I can remember him in the 70's and then as the lead singer for The Little River Band hence why he often sings "When The War Is Over" in concert. The Little River Band, you may have heard of them? They had the most played song on US radio with Reminiscing and many other songs. The original members of LRB, not the cover band that still tours the US, when lead singer and one of the song writers, Glenn Shorrock left, he was replaced by John Farnham for a few years. So John knew how arduous the constant touring grind and being far away from your loved ones, and the toll that it took. When he quit the band, he was happy to tour solo when he wanted, sing and record the songs that he wanted, and not be too far from family. I suppose you know he is recovering from having having a cancerous growth removed from his jaw. May not sing again, but prior to the op. he was still capable of singing at his best aged in his 70s.

America is very insular. Especially in the 70’s 80’s. By the time the US was even remotely curious about other countries music, John was already in his late 30’s. He was shopped around over there but all the record companies said he was too old. So John’s manager mortgaged his house to finance ‘Whispering Jack’
