Im working full time as a plumbing estimator while also pursuing my fashion design for disabled people dreams. The keys are patience, having a mentor, and pouncing when the time is right.

I really clicked on the "dont quit your day job". I strongly believe in this motto of being patient in growth. Nothing is really instant. One thing I got from working on my dreams on the side, is the liberation of being able to express myself creatively. I enjoy my day job more because of the fact that I have an outlet. So those words are gold.

We loved this episode. Our favorite part was at 32:10 when Daymond says, "Everybody says you need a patent, but a trademark is more valuable than a patent... patents can get around, but you can't create another Nike." Trademarks can last forever whereas patents have a 20 year limit. Great stuff!

Basically what I'm getting form this video is successful takes time, sweat and tears. Also to never take short cuts when running a business such as taking loans but instead have the work ethic and patients to put your own money into your business.

It sound logical now that it has been said but I never thought of Marie or a Daymond having to constantly reinvent themselves, I thought once you have arrived that's it! How naive, the challenges never end and I am oh so cool with that!

Biggest takeaway: When Daymond said "Networking is one of the most powerful ways to extend your brand!" So good! Definitely reminds me that networking needs to be apart of building my business.

  • @tshworldwide

Biggest takeway for me is how I see a shift in online products. For years, freemium models were the range. Now, big names like Daymond are playing in the space of on-demand-for-a-fee. The pendulum is swinging in the other direction with moves like these. All of us need to take note.
Marie, you are indeed one of my most favorite people on the planet. Thanks for showing up to the world in your unique and big way, sharing your gift with the rest of us.

I love Marie. Been following for years. Have to say, this was one of the best, real, raw interviews I've listened to. My 21-year-old daughter is now stepping out to start her own brand (takin' after her momma), and I just forwarded this to her. I hope to be listening/watching her one day on an interview like this!
Thank you Marie (and team) for bringing such amazing resources, people and inspiration to the world. And, thank your Daymond just as much!

"Success is access." And trademarking is better than a patent. Those are the 2 big things that stood out for me. I've never wanted to be "rich" even when I envision being a NewYork best author. I do want my story heard, and I want my children to know that even though I was a single full-time Mom I kept going. However, I do desire the ability should I choose, to experience all the things life has to offer without restriction. I believe being "rich" is a state of mind. And I am always going the extra mile to prove that to myself.

Hi Marie and Daymond! This episode was right on time. Today, I came to my day job feeling disappointed and unfulfilled. On days like today, I do feel like quitting. Then I heard your conversation about sticking with the plan and financing it with my day job, and I was like, "OK, I can do this." I also loved the conversation about working on my business for the right reasons. I think we all want to be successful, or "stars" as Daymond put it. However, what resonated with me is that being a star not what motivated him to learn about industrial sewing machines, rather it is the idea of making customers feel good when they wear his clothes. Thank you both for such a great conversation. All the best!

Hi Na'Shawn, the Founder of Blue Heron Studios. I wanted to thank you both for this great interview and wonderful exchange. I don't quite have to words to express how this interview help push me forward. I too had Thyroid Cancer, but had to have all of mine removed. It is rare for black men like ourselves to get even such a unique condition, but I'm extremely happy knowing that you are successful still and happy Daymond. Being diagnosed since 23 for 5 years now has been a struggle, but it has taught me a lot too. You two are the positivity and truth the world needs more of. What I took out of this interview that most impacted me was to get around like-minded people, go to the new generation of bars, gas stations, barbershops, which are social media, and network. I loved how he said he may not give the referral to his cousin or friend who is what that person needs because he has an emotional reason not to, so, therefore, he will give the referral to someone he just met or saw on his social media. Interesting!
