Homeworld is such a flop. It was expected to be bad...but THIS bad ? I think you really have no rivals right now, made best Space RTS, .....for memory of Homeworld
Look more and more like it according to the reviews. Any old time player doesn't want to touch it with a ten feet poll. I guess the franchise ends with 2nd game like with DoW2.
Damn, this is how "Care and Love" looks like. The downfall of Homeworld is painful, but from the ashes of its "Spirit" new opportunities rise. I will gladly support these fellas once it releases as early access and provide feedback.

a real RTS has base building, exanding etc included and not just tactical combat so i refuse to call games like homeworld or this "RTS" since it has just a small part of it and is rather tactical than strategic, sadly !

I am glad we agree. On both games :) I guess both HW and DoW ended up stopping by the second game. Some things are just too advanced for AAA developers of today to build on.
I was initially really excited for Homeworld 3 of course, but after i realized its developed by Blackbird, who don't even know how to create a proper skirmish AI (in Deserts of Kharak), i was cautious. Now i'm excited for this game instead.

To some extent. Yes. They both have the ship and space station building elements but Starminer is more about survival and building while Era One is more about strategy and tactical combat in space.

I'm sooooooooo pumped for this game. So many wishlist points "I hope it has x, y, and z.. oh wait, it DOES!". Even LATERAL ENGINES!!!! Probably the only things I didn't see are more infrastructure for the weapon systems (eg magazines for guns, prismatic lenses for lasers, cooling systems etc) to optimise them, and maybe offset normal balancing by demanding more design requirements.

@@perafilozof Actually I have heard of these, I've been closely looking at soil and Ephemeris and I have talked with the devs of both. It's impressive that soils game engine was completely written from scratch by one person. Truly an incredible project. I'll have to take a closer look at dust fleet again, thank you for sharing.

@perafilozof I very much am, almost 400 hours in Avorion. I'm excited to see more titles actually making something polished and seemingly well thought out. It feels like the endie niche is providing games that force big developers to actually work hard in this market again, and I for one am all for this.

If you told me the Complex team, a team that kept recycling their concepts over and over & kept adding ridiculous, broken shit to their mod, were going to carry the HW torch going forward before HW3: I'd tell you to cope harder. But after the latest HW, we're the ones coping here and we need this.

I wonder if you can make a home flotilla that can do everything you need while fighting... like a mobile shipyard, or a research based ship, etc. Since it is modular it should have some wiggle room with what you can do, like making industry modules to bring your industry to differant locations if the resources are all harvested. But i would understand if they said no to that thought process, still very excited about one era.

there is a game should be mentioned everywhere, and thats FIVE NATIONS. that is the best space RTS i have ever seen, unfortunately one guy makes it in his free time and no one appreciate it...
@@perafilozof Starcraft BroodWar is the best RTS. And Five Nations is SC BW in space without ground units. [1] scifi [2] got resource collection, building construction, unit manufacturing, and unit control. If one is missing in a game, its not RTS [3] unit control needs to be instant and smooth, to be able to micro the units properly. What is an RTS without being in total control ? [4] Its camera angle and distance is perfect for not just playing, but watching units shooting at each other. an enjoyable cinema. [5] dont have bullshjt mechanics what makes the game unplayable 70% of all RTS is made in the era of bows and swords Down of War 2 fails in [2] no building ? no RTS (space rts like homeworld2 have more freedom in this but HW2 made it nicely) Command and Conquer games failing in [3] unresponsive controls with delays and erratic unit movements... Supreme Commander games have too much scale, have to zoom out too much and thats why failing in [4] - this is the case in most of the space RTS-es aswell. Even if you can zoom in, you usually dont do it, and miss the fun part. And Stellaris is the Ultmate Failure in [5] with its money drain mechanic. Actual space RTS-es are overcomplicated planet babysitting and politic relation managing games with few percentage of actual combat. maybe i should have started with that but for the question of what i like the most about fivenations i had to approach by what is missing from everything else. Game developers needs to copy starcraft more, but they afraid of Blizzard Lawsuits. thats why we only have CnC and Supreme commander like games in the last decades. Stormgate is the only another starcraft-ish game, but its developer destined it to failure since he hates air units, so he focuses on ground combat more. garbage before release. Other RTS i like are; Dawn of War 1 Dark Crusade(

@@perafilozof Im not an expert or something. this one just came from hearth, and experience from my perspective. As everyone, im looking for the perfect game for myself, and it is almost Starcraft. The only thing it "fails" is the too much ground focus, and while im enjoying that too, it is saddening how little space air units get especially in proplay what i love to watch. Thats why i have high hopes for Five Nations, or if something really similar would appear... Because i just love watching warships barrage at each other But sometimes, in 1 out of 1000 game, we get something like this: /watch?v=MuhjA_Fv0VI&t=4860s (ASL Season2 Finals; Flash vs Sea 1:21:55 , game2)

This game looks great. I still have a curiosity, it will have a cinematic camera mode or at least a no hud function. If it will have one of these functions, clearly some videos with great cinematic battles with this game would come out.

Imagine a map with an upwards of 1000 stars either multiplayer or single. What I really want is an ED size map (meaning the whole milky way) but I could settle with a distant worlds 2 size map.

While I never got into the Homeworld series.... I for one am pretty happy with Sins of a Solar Empire II coming to steam soon-ish. Also agree with the SW:EaW comment. Game been amazing. Mon Calamari cruisers just been something special in this game with the inability to kill their shields Edit after watching: ...all I could think of was RPing as the Quarian fleet from Mass Effect...

Hello, yes, individual ships can have research modules for example. They aren't exclusive to stations. As for jumping systems that is part of the gameplay we have the least amount of information.

Wish there was a space RTS where you had physics where a railgun for example would take a chunk off a ship, knocking it back and the ship floats around heavily damaged etc. Every space RTS is just HP soakers like a boss from destiny XD. I do love RTS games tho just speaking my mind.
Probably because it turns into who sees and shots first, wins. Like in real life. And real life warfare isn't fun. But I could be wrong, if someone makes a game like that and finds an audience. Thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts with us.
@@perafilozof It doesn't have to be like real life though, it's an accumulation of damage. You would have to go through shielding first or be weak enough, for sure getting 1 shot isn't fun lol. My goodness this looks interesting. I grew up playing IG2, and later Homeworld. Nowadays it seems like the only decent space "RTS" there is, is Stellaris. Can't wait for this one now, or Falling Frontiers!

If I had a nickel for each time the 3rd entry of an RTS game series underdelivered, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't much, but its odd that its happened twice.

At this point long time franchise should be rebooted rather than continued with a sequel since dev teams of today can't do proper sequels anyway and publishers won't let them. I hope there is a "Blue Print" mode to design ships so you don't have to worry about doing that as your forces are being ripped apart. But I do like want I am seeing.

Some of the modular stuff is definitely gonna need shortcuts or simplifying into categories. I should be able to select from a group of "bends", "Connectors", "base panels", "spaced armor" etc and rotations should be easy to install. They are also gonna need a symmetry function here and there. (optional of course, I'm weird and would 100% build symmetrical ships) However, what I like is VERTICAL ship construction... See with Vertical ship design you basically create a mobile battle tower, or create more unique profiling (similar to my favorite ship from EVE the Myrmidon or the Barghest). Sadly, I don't think my concepts of profiling will be applicable in this game :(
I do agree with you and the UI shown here is definitely not the final version. I should be getting access to a playable build soon and then we will see has progress been made on this front. What made you fall in love with EVE? I liked it very much myself but never had the time to play it
Woah, this looks like some awesome mixture of Homeworld and Space Engineers. Very neat. I'll have to keep an eye on this. I feel like I'm in the small minority of people who actually enjoys Homeworld 3. Not perfect by any means, but still enjoyable.

Do not blame Blackbird Interactive for the fumble of HW3. They were only doing what Gearbox told them to. Writing was granted to another team entirely. Gearbox had almost no say in Deserts of Kharak, so if the writing in Kharak was good, that was because it was all Blackbird. HW3 is a Gearbox problem, not a BBI problem.
I can believe that, and want it to be true, but the combat mechanics are also paper thin, which isn't something I can level at Gearbox? The story part I can totally see Gearbox messing up. Thx for the comment. What do you think of this game?

I am glad we agree. On both games :) I guess both HW and DoW ended up stopping by the second game. Some things are just too advanced for AAA developers of today to build on.

I was initially really excited for Homeworld 3 of course, but after i realized its developed by Blackbird, who don't even know how to create a proper skirmish AI (in Deserts of Kharak), i was cautious.

To some extent. Yes. They both have the ship and space station building elements but Starminer is more about survival and building while Era One is more about strategy and tactical combat in space.

I'm sooooooooo pumped for this game. So many wishlist points "I hope it has x, y, and z.. oh wait, it DOES!". Even LATERAL ENGINES!!!! Probably the only things I didn't see are more infrastructure for the weapon systems (eg magazines for guns, prismatic lenses for lasers, cooling systems etc) to optimise them, and maybe offset normal balancing by demanding more design requirements.

If you told me the Complex team, a team that kept recycling their concepts over and over & kept adding ridiculous, broken shit to their mod, were going to carry the HW torch going forward before HW3: I'd tell you to cope harder. But after the latest HW, we're the ones coping here and we need this.

There is going to be a lot of verity in builds for sure, but I don't think the optional gameplay will be having only one ship.

I wonder if you can make a home flotilla that can do everything you need while fighting... like a mobile shipyard, or a research based ship, etc.
Since it is modular it should have some wiggle room with what you can do, like making industry modules to bring your industry to differant locations if the resources are all harvested. But i would understand if they said no to that thought process, still very excited about one era.

[2] got resource collection, building construction, unit manufacturing, and unit control. If one is missing in a game, its not RTS
[3] unit control needs to be instant and smooth, to be able to micro the units properly. What is an RTS without being in total control ?
[4] Its camera angle and distance is perfect for not just playing, but watching units shooting at each other. an enjoyable cinema.
[5] dont have bullshjt mechanics what makes the game unplayable
70% of all RTS is made in the era of bows and swords
Down of War 2 fails in [2] no building ? no RTS (space rts like homeworld2 have more freedom in this but HW2 made it nicely)
Command and Conquer games failing in [3] unresponsive controls with delays and erratic unit movements...
Supreme Commander games have too much scale, have to zoom out too much and thats why failing in [4]
- this is the case in most of the space RTS-es aswell. Even if you can zoom in, you usually dont do it, and miss the fun part.
And Stellaris is the Ultmate Failure in [5] with its money drain mechanic.
Actual space RTS-es are overcomplicated planet babysitting and politic relation managing games with few percentage of actual combat. maybe i should have started with that but for the question of what i like the most about fivenations i had to approach by what is missing from everything else.
Game developers needs to copy starcraft more, but they afraid of Blizzard Lawsuits. thats why we only have CnC and Supreme commander like games in the last decades.
Stormgate is the only another starcraft-ish game, but its developer destined it to failure since he hates air units, so he focuses on ground combat more. garbage before release.
Other RTS i like are; Dawn of War 1 Dark Crusade(

As everyone, im looking for the perfect game for myself, and it is almost Starcraft. The only thing it "fails" is the too much ground focus, and while im enjoying that too, it is saddening how little space air units get especially in proplay what i love to watch. Thats why i have high hopes for Five Nations, or if something really similar would appear...

This game looks great. I still have a curiosity, it will have a cinematic camera mode or at least a no hud function. If it will have one of these functions, clearly some videos with great cinematic battles with this game would come out.

Imagine a map with an upwards of 1000 stars either multiplayer or single. What I really want is an ED size map (meaning the whole milky way) but I could settle with a distant worlds 2 size map.

While I never got into the Homeworld series.... I for one am pretty happy with Sins of a Solar Empire II coming to steam soon-ish.
Also agree with the SW:EaW comment. Game been amazing. Mon Calamari cruisers just been something special in this game with the inability to kill their shields

Mon Calamari cruisers have that unique fish in space look, so different than the rest of the fleets.

Hello, yes, individual ships can have research modules for example. They aren't exclusive to stations. As for jumping systems that is part of the gameplay we have the least amount of information.

Wish there was a space RTS where you had physics where a railgun for example would take a chunk off a ship, knocking it back and the ship floats around heavily damaged etc. Every space RTS is just HP soakers like a boss from destiny XD. I do love RTS games tho just speaking my mind.
Probably because it turns into who sees and shots first, wins. Like in real life. And real life warfare isn't fun. But I could be wrong, if someone makes a game like that and finds an audience. Thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts with us.
@@perafilozof It doesn't have to be like real life though, it's an accumulation of damage. You would have to go through shielding first or be weak enough, for sure getting 1 shot isn't fun lol. Game design doesn't have to be binary, yes or no. See and die. Rather I just want more depth to games I've been enjoying for more than a decade

My goodness this looks interesting. I grew up playing IG2, and later Homeworld. Nowadays it seems like the only decent space "RTS" there is, is Stellaris. Can't wait for this one now, or Falling Frontiers!

As for not liking Homeworld 3 there are a few main reasons: 1. The story was originally about a whole people and their struggle, the new narrative by people who don't respect or know their Homeworld lore but work on the game, is about individuals and new age bullshit I won't even name. 2. The mechanics are striped down from previous games 3. Ship movement and controls were changed while they are almost prefect before. 4. There is more

If I had a nickel for each time the 3rd entry of an RTS game series underdelivered, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't much, but its odd that its happened twice.

At this point long time franchise should be rebooted rather than continued with a sequel since dev teams of today can't do proper sequels anyway and publishers won't let them. I hope there is a "Blue Print" mode to design ships so you don't have to worry about doing that as your forces are being ripped apart. But I do like want I am seeing.
There is a way to save already made ships as Blueprints, so you can make them again in two clicks.

Some of the modular stuff is definitely gonna need shortcuts or simplifying into categories. I should be able to select from a group of "bends", "Connectors", "base panels", "spaced armor" etc and rotations should be easy to install. They are also gonna need a symmetry function here and there. (optional of course, I'm weird and would 100% build symmetrical ships)
However, what I like is VERTICAL ship construction...
See with Vertical ship design you basically create a mobile battle tower, or create more unique profiling (similar to my favorite ship from EVE the Myrmidon or the Barghest). Sadly, I don't think my concepts of profiling will be applicable in this game :(
I do agree with you and the UI shown here is definitely not the final version. I should be getting access to a playable build soon and then we will see has progress been made on this front. What made you fall in love with EVE? I liked it very much myself but never had the time to play it

Do not blame Blackbird Interactive for the fumble of HW3. They were only doing what Gearbox told them to. Writing was granted to another team entirely. Gearbox had almost no say in Deserts of Kharak, so if the writing in Kharak was good, that was because it was all Blackbird.
HW3 is a Gearbox problem, not a BBI problem.

The story can be iffy in rts games sure but the gameplay mechanics being superficial isnt something that has to do with writing.

I hope tgeres like a base building mode where you start out in a set zon and deal with raids but you can send ships to another zone ro raid in return.

You build it big enough and it turns from a ship into a station. You keep building and you turn it into a city.
The Complex mod had terrible balancing issues.

Exactly. That is where these modders tuned indie developers learned their craft. And they not only kept the proper gameplay mechanic but also introduced a new ship building mechanic as the core of the game
