  • For today's unboxing review we bring you the 2017 Cadillac CTS, a mid-size luxury sedan that needs little to no introduction. Our tester came powered by the optional and naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque, with power going to all four wheels (a $2,000 option) via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, for the record. This engine is also the mid-range offering, with the entry-level engine being a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with 268 hp. Or, you could opt for the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. What about the CTS-V? We'll save that for a separate review.
    With a 0-60 mph time of 5.3 seconds, there's no question our CTS is fast, but it's in the handling department where the car thrives the most. Thanks to Magnetic Ride Control, the CTS is, without question, one of the best (if not the) mid-size sedans in the world. No joke. In fact, this is a very similar system that's found on the Ferrari 488 and Audi R8 - and you can get it on the CTS for a significantly cheaper final price. Speaking of which, our 2017 Cadillac CTS came to a grand total of $67,200, which is right in line with its main competitors, such as the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. But is the latest CTS good enough to take on the Germans? Oh yeah. Enjoy the review!

    Love this car. I have 2018 model 2.0t luxury awd model got it with 10,000 miles and couldn’t be happier. Love this car. I had a 2014 bmw 3 series and this car excites me more. And I absolutely loved the bmw when I got it. So to have this car make me so excited to drive daily is beyond a blessing.

      I'm choosing between this and the ATS coupé but I've seen the ATS coupé has extremely small and tight backseat head and legroom even for a coupe so I'm looking into this.

    Bought my 2019 Cadillac CTS, AWD, 2.0LT Luxury with Crystal White Tricoat and Cashmere interior that came off a 2 year lease with very low miles. Saved a lot of money compared to new price. Looks as good as it drives. Last year of this model car. I simply love it!!

    I'm 17 and drive this car, feeling really blessed rn. Ours is the base 2.0T (with awd) but is still amazing. Love the apple CarPlay and tech, hate the plastic in the center, it is such a dust/fingerprint magnet and Even though I wipe it off pretty much everyday with a microfiber cloth (cause it annoys the hell out of me!) they don't really go away with all the hard corners in the design. As far as driving I don't have too much to base my thoughts off because I learned to drive in this car and it is the car I drive most but from what I know I can say the acceleration is quite good (with some slight turbo lag) and handling is very responsive and has a good weight to it (especially when in sport mode, which I usually have it in) it is many times more enjoyable than the 2017 Jetta that I (very irregularly) drive. The large trunk with an opening into the cabin is also more than adequate for anything I have ever tried to put in it and surprises me with its capacity. All in all I would 100% recommend it but like I said i don't have very much driving experience or experience with cars in general. (Just thought I'd add some of my comments here from firsthand experience 🙂)

    I have a 2017 Silver CTS Premium Luxury AWD 3.6L V6. I took delivery two weeks ago. It is an outstanding car. Plenty of power although not as much as my Mercedes E550 Coupe that it replaces. But absolutely enough as I have no trouble moving away from the pack. The handling is superb, as good as I have ever experienced, and I have owned an Audi, a Mercedes, a Porsche and two BMW's including a 428 which my wife currently drives . My alternative purchase was going to be a 2017 Mercedes AMG E43. I ordered that before I "found" the CTS. The Merc arrived before the CTS. I test drove it for an hour and a half and am thrilled to say that the CTS is a better handling car. The CTS also has a vastly better ride (mine has magnetic ride control). It is superb without being soft and just a joy when cruising on bumpy CA freeways. The combination of ride, handling, steering feel is just amazing. What a blast to drive! It has a very nice roar when accelerating but when cruising with the Bose noise cancelling audio system, it is a concert hall. I also have the new CUE which works fine. I found it intuitive with almost no learning curve where my wife's 428 requires all kinds of clicking to get things done and is far from intuitive. And the CTS cost a full $15,000 less than the price of the Merc E43 AMG. I could not be more thrilled. Caddy needs to fire up its marketing department. They are making a great car and not that many people know it.

    In Vsport trim with the 3.6 twin turbo, it is without a doubt the best mid-size luxury sedan on the market in regards to chassis balance, precision, and overall car/driver connection. More "pure" of a driving experience even compared to the V because it's not carrying all the extra weight on the nose but has all the suspension goodies. It hits the niche perfectly. Kudos to the entire development team for putting together a great car!

    My 2016 cts thinks it's a 1978 pontiac transam... not so much in looks but in horse power and handling...in fact the 4 banger caddy has more hp, top speed about the same, they handle similar..the T/A tuned suspension would definitely hug the curves...and my cts is no exception...in fact the,way it handles is the main selling point for me...i miss my old 78 bandit edition trans am ..but this caddy takes me back...

    Beautiful car. Interior is nice, but still a half step behind the Germans I think, they keep getting better too. Just a touch too busy and bling by comparison, and the electronic interface trails a bit. Still a great place to be though, and great overall car.

      I think Cadillac will make necessary interior improvements for the CTS's mid-life refresh, say for 2018 or 2019.

      I purposely left the XTS out because it's the only Cadillac that's not built on a RWD platform. The XTS comes standard with FWD and AWD is optional. The XTS is nice and all, but I don't think it's a very competitive Cadillac anymore now that the CT6 flagship has arrived.

  • @justmy2cents_

    Cadillac has been in the game since early 1900's & are now finally "rearrived" after dozens of hit & misses? "Standard Of The World" now finally means something! But Hyundai, yes Hyundai is giving them some competition! How & why is that? Caddy got too comfortable dare I say, too nonchalant. The STS North Star great engine tech but fwd? Huh? STS-V another strong BMW M5 contender but again very lack luster! Cadillac Sixteen (16 cyl) awesome! but just a concept? Cadillac Cien (12cyl beast) best thing ever from the brand, world class super sports car but no production? Time & money wasted or maybe not because alot of that tech is being displayed now at least! Cadillac is definitely moving forward more aggressively but needs more "Standard" features & tech savvy engineering! Good ole AMERICAN hussle behind the muscle! Hyundai Equus is no joke & very inspiring coming from a 10yr old (compared to the Caddy ) company that is. Who's Your Caddy??

    When you said busy that really did not make any sense what so ever. Then you talk about Benz system which is so menu based even BMW's! You have to go through menu after menu to do basic things even to use voice controls from the Benz. Dude rethink that! Finally Cadillac did not match Audi the Caddy had it first.

      RayJ-HT Cadillac has some of the most comprehensive technology in thier cars. CUE has never been a problem for me it's very responsive and you dont have to deal w redundant menus & overtechnological systems just to turn on the AC. They have come a long way, they're my favorite Luxury Automobile. I honestly think alot of the criticisms they face are due to European biases and the fact that Caddy was never supposed to get this good. They're giving the Germans a run for their money. Case and point, the XTS, journalist bad mouth that endlessly however, I know people who own them and think they're awesome. I've never heard a real world owner say anything bad about it. Cadillac is awesome. P.S. (To Mr Unboxing) Cadillac created Magnetic Ride and Ferrari put it on thier cars.

      Right on, Ray! And here's another thing about the Caddy interior vis a vis the German competition, the Cadillac is simply more formal. German cars are neutral and devoid of styling so as not to offend anybody. In this day and age when people are wearing polo shirts to work, many people prefer the unadorned interior of German cars so as not to call out how poorly they are dressed. I mean look at the guy in this video with his hoodie sitting in that beautiful Cadillac interior. It just doesn't work! And guess who else dresses like that? The automotive press. But for the well-heeled, natty car buyer, Cadillac is the way to go.

    Cadillac's nomenclature for it's lineup is confusing to me. This is the CTS. There's a CT6, which is larger than this, and yet the CTS-V is smaller than this? Why are some models ending with a numeral, while others end with an alphabetical character, and what the hell does V stand for?

    • @diegorangel2322
      @diegorangel2322 7 лет назад +5

      Shell Casing its pretty simple actually. ATS is the small compact luxury sedan. CTS is a midsize luxury sedan. And CT6 is a full size luxury sedan. Their V line is their full performance lineup competing with AMG. There is a CTS V and an ATS V which are the same size as the normal CTS and ATS only with a larger, more powerful engine and other more high performance parts.

    • @diegorangel2322
      @diegorangel2322 7 лет назад

      D-tay94 XTS is kind of a weird car in the lineup. It falls in between the cts and ct6 sizewise. A full redesign of the car should be coming soon.

    • @evanganske9240
      @evanganske9240 7 лет назад

      Shell Casing Cadillac is in the middle of changing the names of its cars and crossover(s). The CT6 and XT5 are brand new vehicles with the brand new naming nomenclature. CT# (CT stands for Cadillac Touring.. The number identifies where the vehicle sits within the lineup). XT# (XT stands for Crossover Touring.. And again, the number identifies where the vehicle sits within the lineup). A CT2 will be smaller than a CT4, a CT4 will be smaller than a CT6, and so on.. They are choosing to only rename vehicles when they are redesigned. That's why you still see the ATS and CTS still carrying their old names.
