orion deschamps oh god come off of it or go crawl in a hole with that shit. they are better than even and more Cadillac than even and I grew up in them and never left
I saw one of these in a parking lot today and was stunned by how much I liked it. If anything it looks better in person. If only GM could do a job like this all the time.
I love this guy John Davis. Goss's garage has also helped me maintain my vehicles. Motor week is and has always been the standard auto review show for car lovers...
I'm disappointed they did not talk about the Panaray sound system. I listened to it at the autoshow last year and it is truly a gift from the gods. Best quality sounds system that I've ever heard in a car. It was beautiful!
I tested a CT6 Premium 3.0T and came away thoroughly impressed with the car. In keeping with what Cadillac did with the 2nd and especially 3rd-gen CTS: This ain't grandpaw's Caddy! Full-disclosure: The wife owns a '15 MB S550 4Matic. Very, very fine automobile. The interior really does question the need for a Bentley. However, in terms of ride/handling balance, the CT6 is all over the S-Class.(the horror!) The well-damped, micro-second reacting MRC suspension is simply better than the sometimes ungainly, nautical feel of the S550, even in it's sportiest setting. The CT6 does it effortlessly, whereas the over-electrolized S550 doesn't have that organic feel. It is the structure that is the Omega that feels tighter when wafting down the road over the W222 Benz. Now, will Cadillac peel off Mercedes customers? Just a handful, likely. But those whom are like my wife(hey, a guy hit a homerun by marrying a gal that loves cars!), they will give it a once over. The CT6's interior entrapments won't cause a designo-equipped S550 any problems, but the CT6 seemed to not have to leave the interior in despair to sell at a lower price. I actually like the smoother seating of the Premium that the Platinum. And it seems Cadillac is "damned if it does, damned if it doesn't" as it pertains to interior materials. Not everybody is a fan of the cold(brand new 7 Series for instance- It just does not have an interior that befits a $100k car, or are we just spoiled by thr Benz?), austere appearance of German cars(sans S550), so stop it with the "too many textures and materials). It is ALL 100% geniune material except where plastics should be. Even the lower parts of the doors are leather wrapped. It is a fine car that deserves a look if shopping in this class. We will be replacing my trusty but a little dated 2013 300C AWD with one come January.
My Jaguar XJ dynamically better than an S-class but that doesn't make it a better car.... the S-class is the best luxury car in the world bar none... your wife made a fine choice...
What makes the S-Class the standard of the segment is the no-compromise, lavished interior design and finish! Despite being significantly cheaper than luxury cars from Bentley and Rolls Royce, the S-Class still manages to draw comparisons with them! Which speaks to Mercedes' commitment and focus on providing the best luxury experience! Unfortunately, the same can't yet be said for Cadillac! While their lineup has improved dramatically, the brand still lags behind the tier-1 luxury brands! There are woefully obvious signs of cost-cutting and cheapening of materials prevalent in the CT6, which is why GM priced it from $54K: which is rather affordable but is no more competitive than the new Lincoln Continental.
1993 Cadillac Fleetwood: 16 city, 25 highway. 2016 Cadillac CT6: 18 city, 26 highway. However, test average was 18 vs 22.8 and the 2016 brings twice the power.
Drove one recently and it is amazing how it drives like a small car and handles so well. I loved it a lot and the CUE system functions so well in this model.
I would like to see a retro return of the Chiffon yellow from the 70's-80's. This was a Cadillac staple, particularly the interior & people loved the look!
Something like that would save Cadillac from becoming extinct... Have a car that is nothing but comfort. Forget sport mode this, and traction control that. Make a car that is intended for highways, reliability, and comfort as the focus of the car, instead of trying to make it a 'comfort 2nd sports car first' type of feel. It's a shame because automakers are really the ones to blame because of the criticism Cadillacs would get for having cars that weren't sporty...
I sell Cadillac's and our dealership is in a rich area. Every Cadillac I've sold the customer didn't care what's under the hood. Reason being they're very old. The only time someone cared what's under the hood are atsv and ctsv customers.
Hats off to Cadillac. This is the best offering I have seen from them in a very longtime. This car and the technology from this car is going to bring the brand back to profitability. Invest in Cadillac now. There stock is going to go up.
This Is One Of The Best Large Sedans They’ve Ever Made!! Then They Go And Discontinue It?!?! Typical GM Fashion… THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN CADILLAC HISTORY THAT THEY NO LONGER HAVE A LARGE SEDAN🤯
Caddy's doing it right. Big, RWD purpose built platform specifically designed for luxury car duty... Unlike a certain other American luxury brand trying to pass off a stretched midsize family sedan slathered in cheap plastic chrome and leather as a proper luxury car.
not quite. But this car did just match the 7 series in sales last month. That is very good for Cadillac. I'd guess that the next generation cadillacs will be the time when Cadillac is back for real
Well, it's 2 years later, and 3.0 TT's are almost non existent, as is the car itself. Very rare bird on used car lots, even in base 4 cyl models. 2020 may be it's last year, as the base engine sucks.
@Diamond Logistics Wow! I just did the same! 3.0TT, luxury level plus extra goodies, and AWD. $37,000 with 31,000 on the clock. What a fantastic car for the money. I just sold my BMW 650i and I still love the way this Cadillac drives and rides. GM has come a long way in paying attention to details and getting things right!
Nice to see a proper full-size, rear-wheel drive luxury sedan from Cadillac again. Truthfully, I have been growing tired of the automobile industry's recent obsession with "luxury-performance" vehicles like the CTS. Not that they're necessarily bad cars, but is every premium car nowadays required to possess sports car-level speed and handling characteristics in order to be taken seriously? I never saw the need. Luxury cars are built for comfort and class, and the CT6 actually looks like a pleasant, elegant cruiser instead of an aggressive, quasi-macho sport sedan. Hope it does well on the market.
Fun to own and drive, but I feel sorry for the people who have to diagnose and repair cars like this. A major system failure out of warranty can make these cars disposable once problems start to creep up.
Just three years later it gets the axe. GM perfects a model line, sells it for a few years, then pulls it off the market while wondering why loyalists turn their backs.
Like you said, John. Great effort Caddy, but not quite there with the A8L, 7 series, or S class. And the XTS surprisingly has about 2.7 cubic ft more trunk space, which is close to the trunk space of the german flagship sedans
Why do you guys always swipe CUE's console volume controls? Here’s an idea… try looking at the steering wheel. Try the owners manual. There is a volume control by your right thumb.
2:14 Cadillac CT6 had traditionally working shifter of 8-speed automatic transmission, unlike XT5 precision shift similar to ZF's Monostable. But still lacks manual gate. Dear GM, adopt to CT6 Chrysler's Autostick mode with horizontal gate (similar to 300M).
88K for everything seems a bit steep. That starts to enter European price ranges. I'd much rather have this over the others, but wow. I like that interior tho.
A 5.3, or 6.2Liters, naturally aspirated ohv version would work. I am 1 of Cadillac owner who KNEW what was under the hood. So much for your theory JOHN.
Great car! Btw, why does Benz put their logo on the hood of their cars and then put it again a few inches lower in the grill? It looks lame and is superfluous.
While the Germans might still be a tiny bit ahead, I think its great that British, American, Italian and Japanese Small to Large Executive cars are real alternatives.
What would a hellcat be with magnetic ride suspension?? different brand but American car companies should team up. Like Gm does the suspension, Dodge does infotainment while Ford does engine which seems to be the fastest.
$55,000 AND IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A STANDARD V-6?! I have a 1995 Fleetwood (Last year the Fleetwood was made after over 80 years straight!) I inherited from my uncle. It outclasses this silly CT-6 in terms of luxury. Fleetwood is old-school luxury. The traditional, full-size, rear-wheel drive V-8 powered land yacht. Over 20 feet long, huge trunk, a nearly 6 foot-long hood, sumptuous seats like living room furniture, more than enough leg, hip, shoulder, and headroom for 6 adults. And despite it's size, it's torquey cast-iron V-8 gets it up to speed plenty fast!
In a world where CAFE is up the ass of automakers, Cadillac is still a branch of General Motors, and 4 cylinder turbo engines are the norm there's no surprise the base engine is a turbo 4. Makes more power than the old Northstar V-8 and is more efficient and powerful than old carbureted V-8's. Stylish, comfortable with every modern amenity you could think of.
Fleetwoods were nice but the CT-6 is a remarkable successor to the Fleetwood. The excessive use of plastic on the Fleetwoods interior is by no means high class luxury on this day in time. If you went to the upscale part of town in that 95 Fleetwood, it'll be out of place in a parking lot full of late model Audi's and Benz's. This CT-6 is for those people who require image for the occasion.
Auto Young Actually, the Fleetwood's V-8 was Fuel injected. Fleetwood was old-school luxury, but it still embraced technology of the time. Even it's digital LED instrument panel.
+Timbrock1000 Those things like the LED instrument panel were cool but it was the 90's and a lot of things were done just to appear futuristic to sell cars. I remember the old GM digital dashes especially in the Impala's. There's a reason GM switched to analog gauges for 96.
I agree with Uncle Bob, it's the Direct Injection. DI engines inject fuel at up to 15,000 psi whereas a typical port injection is around 30 to 60 psi. Plus Uncle Bob is always right.
These cars didn't need a V8 all, the best fuckin engine would have been the GM, S/C 3800 V6 engine.otherwise the car was a huge disappointment to me could have been a 21st century Fleetwood brougham.
Thank you John Davis. Just like the CT6, you are an American Icon in the automotive industry! Wishing you the best of health so you can keep doing these great videos!

Most Cadillac owners don't know what's under the hood? I sure as hell don't fit that category.

Wow, John wasn't kidding about the leatherwork - look at the terrible stitching on the steering wheel at 4:32.
@Leandro Kamari aw shuddup!
It just looks dirty there
I caught it too. Looks sloppy. Too bad. The car looks spectacular inside and out otherwise!
Gorgeous car. Now, to wait 8 years for the famous GM depreciation to kick in so I can snag a nice one used....
You said it. If GM does nothing else right, they make some really good stuff that'll show up in the secondary market for pennies on the dollar
Can get a 5 year old ct6 today for 30% of factory price
@ no a ct6
8years?
Thank god for depreciation cuz other wise I could never afford a car especially a cadillac
