I have the 2012 fz1 , only thing I can agree on is the rotor. I did replace mine with the Yamaha piece so I have piece of mind. The bike is a bit buzzy but not terrible compared to others. The gearing I went with is two down in the rear and stock front. I find the fz1 has a ton of low end torque and pulls hard in every gear. The fuel mileage I agree with but it can be improved with correct tuning either flashed ECU or power commander V . Other wise out of the 19 motorcycles I have owned this 2012 and the 2001 FZ1 do it all the best.

You actually have the best sports touring/naked bike ever made for the money.
Checking the rotor has been updated is a 20 minute job and a new 5 dollar gasket.
If you're expecting good mpg from a bike that revs to 13000 rpm you need a reality check,
    Its a performance machine.
The gearing and ecu has been set to prevent speeds of 185mph that the R1 can achieve. The Fz1s has rails on the rear panel because is considered to be more of a sports touring machine to help with luggage unlike the Fz1n which is more of a hooligan naked machine.
The vibrations from your clock cluster is probably due to poor repairs or servicing or just general tinkering, from factory they never rattle.
Sell it and let someone else appreciate it.

I think he appreciates the FZ1 . It’s just a vid that some do “ the 5 things I hate” then they do a “5 things I love. I think “HATE” is a pretty strong word and maybe should of said “things that I would like to fix”

I don't understand what you are talking about, the "rotor" is bad from the factory? I'm considering picking up a gen 2, guess I should have a look at this issue 😂😂. I had the gen 1 for many moons and put around 60k miles on it without any major repairs, just maintenance and valve adjustment. I'm almost 60 and have been riding since I was 12 off-road, got a moped at 15 and have hooked ever since basically. Some times it's worse than others. Currently I only have one street bike and two 50cc mopeds. I've had as many as ten bikes all at once though when I was rebuilding basket cases. Anyway, my 2003 fz1 was by far the best motorcycle I've ever owned. Best looking, fastest and most reliable. If you can point me in a direction about the rotor it would be freaking sweet. If it's that bad though I imagine I'll be able to find it. You said it's like $200 to replace? That isn't a huge deal if I can get a killer deal maybe? You have to admit that the Fz1's are probably the best naked ever. Thx

I just had some long response typed up for you and RUclips reloaded my page and I lost it all. So I'm going to try and type it in a shorter form. Basically Yamaha made a crappy part from the factory, that when comes apart (due to failing glue that holds magnets to the flywheel), it has a good chance to destroy the motor. To remedy this issue you can either buy an aftermarket Chinese brand, which I don't recommend, or an OEM one that's $500 plus dollars. I used the RM stator at first and it gave me oil pressure issues and screwed up my bike. I've got the OEM one in now. Its an easy job to do, but also easy to screw up. Id recommend if you Buy a 2nd gen FZ1, see if the flywheel/rotor has been replaced. Otherwise expect to spend some money immediately to replace it otherwise its just a ticking timebomb

2008 FZ1 here. There is a video on RUclips posted by this guy in the UK showing in details how to replace the rotor. I am not mechanically inclined and got it done no problem. My bike has 71.000Kms and runs like a dream. Have seen these bikes with 120.000 Kms and the engine is solid, very easy to flush coolant and if u plan to replace the plugs you have to drop the radiator to access spark plugs which I have done with help from my wife😂the 2 radiator fan wires are kind of short hence I needed her help. Cheers!!!!

For the buzzing or rattle, I took off the piece of plastic that's above the gauges and under the windscreen and that seemed to be the cause of my noise. It doesn't bolt down- it just kind of clips in place and there's a large foam piece underneath that's supposed to push against the top of the gauges but still doesn't seem to be enough to keep it from moving enough to make some noise. I don't like how it looks without it there, so I'm considering getting some wire harness tape that's like a cloth tape and wrap the edges and see if that's enough to keep it from rattling, but for now I'm running with that piece off the bike.

Bought my all black ‘07 fz1 in ‘07, relocated the rear fender and have been in love with it ever since. The only thing I can agree with you on is the buzzing from the cluster area. I’m closing on 50k miles with an average speed of 90 and it’s seen it’s share of 147-155 and have never had the slightest hint of any engine issues. I was glad your hate list ended up like it did because when I saw the title of your vid I thought “what in the hell is this guy smoking to even think to mix ‘hate’ and ‘FZ1’ together in the same video.” Unless you were gonna be describing all the guys that end up crying and throwing rocks at their bikes once they’ve recovered from their spanking. Absolutely love the bike, only regret is not buying 2 so when I’m done riding this one into the ground I’d have another waiting in the crate. This coming from a guy who’s first bike at age 7 yamaha yz80! 😳 (come on dad really!!) and surprised with my first street bike being an ‘81 seca 550 “cafe’d out with straight bars in ‘85 at 15 a few months before I was able to get my learners permit (holy $h!t really dad!!?? I own 2023 MT-10 ($15,300 OTD so cal if interested to know that) I wish they had KEPT the FZ's fairing! I love the CP4 motor buckets of torque but I never rode the FZ1 so idk how much better this is. The 22+ MT they geared too high trying to improve milage so now I am slipping the clutch coming off stops. I need to gear it back to 2021 gearing....other than those to things? and not the best shocks in the world? I really like it! I DID have to put heated grips on which is insanely cheap like $40 using aftermarket grips tied into OE heater control (the wheel) I also put a real windshield on it...damn i dont understand WHY people love "naked" look with basically no windscreen.....wtf? Anyway 165ish hp? yeah its a rocketship

It wasn't too bad to do, but the bearings felt worse after pressing in the new ones lol I wasn't sure I was doing it right, because of how they felt each time (I pressed in 4 bearings) So I ended up taking it to my dealer, they checked over it and said yeah It was all done right and that the bearings felt good, Idk if they had to center themselves once the cover was on? but they said they were good. So idk, I had someone comment that their whine noise was the oil pump drive chain, and of course its the one thing I didn't replace when I was in there. May do it this winter. I'll for sure make a video on it to see if it indeed fixes it or not.
