I bought my 2009 FZ1 NEW in 2010….it’s at 46K miles currently…I did the Vcyclenut ECU flash, Lars air box mod, removed the cat in the header, and installed a carbon fiber GYTR slip on, also plugged the AIS system…..I changed rear sprocket to 40 teeth, down from 45 stock….BEST bike I’ve owned in 47 years….and, I got it for $7400.00 with ZERO miles…😆😆….just change the liquids, tires….I did have to install new fork seals at 35K miles….SO RELIABLE and FAST…I installed Givi hard top case on mine…I would ride this bike ANYWHERE

There's a reason for it being just as cheap as the gen 1, because the gen 1 IS the best version. Harder seat, more fuel consumption, smaller tank, it's a totally different animal altogether and you're going to regret getting rid of the gen 1

Great video, I had changed from a 2006 fz6 to a 2014 fz1 with only 4000km on it a couple years ago. Great bike, better in every way. The one down side is that it does everything so well it might lack a bit of character. The slip on helped ( Leovince), but the extremely tall 1st gear mean less running it through the gears then I would like.
I have only had one long overnight trip so far ( About 1000km each way) and found it comfortable. I have put a slightly taller wind screen and a set of pilot 5's and should be good for a long time now. Debating the gearing change to a 16t on the front but am a bit concerned would hurt touring range per tank.
I would like to do the ecu flash to derestrict the first 3 gears, but being my only bike and not super strong mechanically a bit nervous to send my ECU away and hope the bike runs ok after I get it back.

Put bigger sprocket, still wheel heavy. Your right comfort not there. Gen 2 maybe little faster but gen 1 lot more fun. Sync carbs and your good for a while, and more enjoyable.
