    Hey I have a coolant leak from the back hole in the oil pan Should i do all of this or there is another way to fix it?

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 8 дней назад

      I was replacing the clutch anyway so this was easiest, but it may be possible without doing that portion of the job. unfortunately when it leaks from that hole, it means the water pump bearings are failing and without replacing it, could be catastrophic to the engine. I think its harder to get the oil/water pump in to the actual bike without removing the clutch cover and clutch basket, but I've heard it can be done.

    My biggest complaint was also the rotor. The other was the ignition retard in the first 3 gears below about 4k rpm. Supposedly to save us 60 somethings from wheelies, etc. An ECU flash by vcyclenut fixed that, added even more timing for 91 or higher octane, adjusted everything to match my 16 tooth front sprocket (the '05 FZ1 part is direct fit), yoshi, air fiter, etc. and corrects speedo for the 16 tooth. He has a form to fill out with what you have and what you want. TOTALLY TRANSFORMED THE BIKE! Power wheelies effortlessly on the track in the first three gears smoothly with no snatchiness. Only 200 beans back in '19 and no other tuner ( power commander or othe piggybacks) with unlimited free reflashes if you add anything. Dave Verdeccia is the owner and a great guy to work with, give him a call. I hated that seat and was lucky enough to get what wss probably the last Dirt Road seat for it.

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 16 дней назад

      I've heard an ECU flash can completely change these bikes. How long were you without your ECU? I presume you had to send it off, or was he local? And I've never even heard of the Dirt Road seat, but it sounds like it would be comfy!

      A lot of the reviews I watched before buying one, all said they weren't bad in town. Some things you just have to try for yourself. It very well could just be that the reviewers were larger and stronger than I am and their experience is just different from mine because of that alone.

    I came here for the VTX walk around since I'm looking at one on marketplace, but would be getting rid of a Yamaha FZ1. I can't decide which to move on with next summer and I'd love your thoughts

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 Месяц назад

      That is tough and kind of depends on what you want to do overall and if you don't mind going to something double the weight. But If I were to be trading one for the other, I personally would rather end up with the FZ1. Its just such a versatile bike. You can ride it fast, you can ride it slow, you can ride it cross country, you can ride it in town, and it does it all well. The VTX does not like to ride slow. in 1st gear with the clutch out, no gas, it will do over 25mph. Ever heard the saying its more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow. That applies to The VTX but for some reason not the FZ1, in my opinion. Dont get me wrong, The VTX is a super fun bike, but if I had to choose between the two to ride everyday, FZ1 every time. On a side note, I'm a smaller rider, so the heavier bike is less appealing in that aspect, for you it could be different. If you know someone that has one, or the dealer can let you ride one, I'd recommend test driving one first.

    • @leprechaunjax
      @leprechaunjax Месяц назад

      @ I appreciate the perspective. I should’ve added I went from a victory hammer to the fz1 so bounced around in both directions. Some days I couldn’t imagine giving up the versatility of the fz1 and other days I miss that pull of the hammer off a stop sign.

    Hi mate! Thanks for the video. I’m planning to replace my fz8 clutch as well. One thing I noticed though, when putting back the clutch cover, it might be better to take the circlip off and remove the arm. That way, however that gear catches it, you won’t need to take off the clutch cover again. Thanks for the Great video!

    Hi. I just wanted to ask. When you bought the replacement clutch boss nut, did it come with the washer that you had to dent to sercure it in place? Thanks for the video.

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 2 месяца назад

      the nut is what you'll be staking, the washer behind the nut is just a thrust washer. So once the nut is torqued, you'll bend over the outer edge of the nut, into the cut out on the shaft.

    Yall remember this bike is geared crazy high when stock, and that's with a 190/50 tire. If you install a 190/55, then the gearing is even higher!! The 55 tire fits perfect and you should get one, but do not be afraid of going down 1 on the front sprocket AND up 3 on the rear. I had a 55 rear tire and 48 tooth rear sprocket and it was still totally anemic until I got on the interstate. Gear down...way down!

      Have you done the rotor replacement? It drives me nuts too. I'm starting to wonder if its not from the replacement flywheel/rotor assembly, being that they are straight cut gears and I've meshed new teeth to a slightly worn ring gear on the crank? IDK the dealer told me its not normal, and that its cam gear related (after being on the phone with the Yamaha corporate techs). IDK what to think anymore, (The dealer also told me just to ride it and that they really aren't positive) so I've just been riding it, waiting for it to either get worse or shell itself. Not much to really do at this point. I've replaced my WP/ oil pump chasing this noise as well.

    • @chriss8860
      @chriss8860 5 месяцев назад

      When I disconnect the transmission from the engine and start it up the noise is gone. I'm thinking it's something to do with the primary drive gear assembly or something with the clutch basket. I've replaced every bearing all of the other clutch components. @@grimsmotovlogs369

    • @grimsmotovlogs369
      @grimsmotovlogs369 5 месяцев назад

      I can't tell you how many people have told me its normal, I'm like you, in that the noise annoys me, and also doesn't sound normal. but at what point do you just ride the thing you know? I've had to just live with it, and until it gets worse or goes kaboom, there's not really much else to do. I know the gears for the clutch basket are straight cut, I wonder if we are just hearing normal whine.

    When I had my VTX 1800, I never passed up on filling the gas tank. If I remember correctly, when that gas light comes on you’ve got about a gallon and a half left. The best mileage I ever got on my VTX was 32 MPG. On one occasion, I wanted to find out the best mileage I could obtain. From the time I filled up the tank until the next time I had to fill it up, I never twisted the throttle more than moderately (32 MPG). I created an Excel spreadsheet and kept track of my mileage the entire time I had the VTX. I averaged between 29 and 30 MPG for the time I owned the bike.

      What's nice about the F series is, the gas tank is slightly larger than the other models. That little extra makes a big difference. 32 MPG is solid, its hard to ride this bike slow.

    There is no way on Gods green earth that any Honda Rebel 1100 version would even come close to equaling a VTX 1800. Granted, I have never ridden the Rebel 1100 but I did own a VTX 1800F1 which, I put 16,000 miles on. There ….. is ….. no ….. way.

      It would seem it is faster then "This particular" VTX. Running like crap.

      power to weight ratio says otherwise, not to mention traction control. The VTX wheel spins anytime you ask it. The Rebel, not so much.

      @@grimsmotovlogs369 Your problem isn't power to weight. Your problems is that slipping clutch and the power not making it to the ground. Install a Barnett clutch and you'll turn it into a whole new bike. A good running VTX 1800 driven properly will run a 12.10-12.4 completely stock. Add and exhaust, intake and fuel tuner and you'll get well into the 11's. A Rebel 1100 on its best day won't get out of the 13's.

    What can happen of you don't prime the new water pump

      its more about priming the oil pump side. making sure its building oil pressure before actually running it.

    These videos are so helpful! Great job all around. I do have a question. What part number did you use for the water pump/oil pump? Just bought a 2006 with only 2500 miles, but it’s been sitting for years and everything the coolant touched is massively rusted so I’m changing out anything metal the coolant sat in. The diagrams I’ve found don’t give a part number for the whole pump. Thank you!

      Nice find! This is the part number I used for the whole assembly: WATER PUMP ASSY: 4C8-12420-21-00 That is directly off the Partzilla website, I like to use their parts diagrams, and the prices aren't the worst either. I also appreciate the kind words sir. Thank you!

    2 gaskets.. Are 2 required or did they just put a new one over the old??

      2 gaskets are required, but just one for each cylinder, it appears they just reused the old ones. I would not put new gaskets over top the old ones, as it will typically leak. And you risk bending the exhaust flanges
