Couldn't agree more! I personally just absolutely love it when he pulls out his jazz chops! I've always felt B.B's 'jazz licks' never fail to be perfectly executed; always sparingly. Yet always enough to really throw you for a loop, having you on the edge of your seat thinking "He's completely 'painted' himself into a corner!" Which of course, he seemingly-effortlessly phrases his way out of everytime! One of the best of all time, without question...
UhSquishyRobot wow I never heard him do anything that sophisticated and creative before usually he just plays pentatonic's with very few notes....well but
When B.B. hits a note and starts playing I can always see myself as a youngster back in Memphis as my parents are entertaining family/friends while playing B.B. Those notes carry powerful memories, histories, and ideas young people. That's what the blues can do.
He plays with the Angels of Heaven, great master of the blues. ruclips.net/video/GzXii8egOHI/видео.html *ONLY 🧡 CHILD* Twangy Guitar Blues in the style of *Duane 💚 Eddy*
@@rz0svp To be honest I think I really started to find it with stuff like this on RUclips - although he's got such a huge discography that there must be some selections that capture it. But of course, like all great bluesman, BB was one thing in the studio and an entirely different beast live.
2:15 - 2:32 is just amazing, ending the "phrase" with a simple yet effective blues lick. This is what it's all about - playing within the chords, coloring them... Patience and feeling is what he shows time and time again throughout his career. He used to throw in all these "fusion" licks in his earlier days - it was still blues music, but with a touch of jazz. Perfect. I adore this man.
I like how BB had some jazz feel here; how perfect jazz and blues blend together! In his late years BB moved deep in the blues though... Always perfect anyway.
After playing for 20 years I’m just getting back into bb. So much to learn and reference from. He’s not playing the most difficult notes either which makes it more fun because it’s encouraging to guitar players. It’s all in his expression and “simple” but elegant phrasing. Everyone needs some bb in their life. All about the feel, expression, passion, style and it’s really not about how many notes you play or not play. It’s HOW you play it! He’s so fun to watch and listen to. If you’re ever stuck or in a plateau playing guitar… watch some bb and you’ll feel better and totally inspired.
Saw him open for the Stones in'69. He made a bigger impression on me (Tickets $3) Bought several of his best albums. Saw him at Desert Inn in '96 and met him in his dressing room. Signed a copy of his auto biography for me. Been to his club in Memphis. He's a true road musician. Still listening to him. No doubt has had tough times over the years, but spent his whole life doing something he loves. I feel very lucky for a white boy from Colorado. Many more B!
A beautiful film. Thank you for this one. BB's tone is his signature, especially back in the 1970s. He puts every ounce of feeling into every vibrato note...like his life depends on it. Many shredders find his technique boring, but they'll never get the point i.e it's FEELING and NOT speed. This man,as well as all the original Bluesmen like T Bone Walker, has influenced more people than any shredder ever will.
Man, BB is such a class act and so good for the soul. The King lives on in my heart after listening to him for 50 years of my life - back when I studied every lick, playing along with the records. I saw him live twice in the 70s and then the 80s and his fans were of all ages and races.
He is the lord and master of that instrument. The beauty, the authority, the inevitability, the nuance, the feeling, the depth. There has never been anyone who comes near him and I would be very surprised if there ever is. He is one of a kind. Louis Armstrong has no competitors on pre-bop cornet and trumpet. B. B. king has no competitors on modern blues guitar.
How many people can say that they made life better for others? Great teachers, great scientists, great inventors, and perhaps the best of all...great artists. Nietzsche once opined that because Montaigne had written, the collective joy of humanity had been greatly increased. Well, because BB king played Lucille, the collective joy of being a human being has been greatly increased. Thanks BB and viva Montaigne!
I got interested in electric guitar because of The Beatles. I was blown away by "While My Guitar Gently Weeps' which led me to Eric Clapton. I was reading a Guitar Player interview with Clapton where he said "Why listen to me when you can listen to BB King?". At the time, I didn't know who BB King was but I had seen some of his records in the record shop so I went out and bought them. That was probably the most significant moment in my fifty year career as a working guitarist. It set me on a path where I was able to find my own voice on the instrument.
I remember where I was and how I felt when he passed. I was a senior in high school in computer science class when I got the news. That whole week was a total shit show for me as I just got into my worship group at church and started filling up on a bunch of gospel, jazz, blues, and RnB for inspiration. While all my friends were focused on shredding and listening to metalcore and pop punk, I was hooked on BB King.
B.B. King at the height of his power...the mid-1970's!!! For any guitar player who wonders, THAT'S how to make love to a guitar ! B.B. makes Lucille (in this case a Gibson ES-355 stereo) sing so sweetly that you just want to fly away into the clouds of joy ! Props to the trumpet and sax players, also... Dan.
I was fortunate enough to see him perform live at the Chippewa tribe's casino twice in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. His audience was composed of a evenly mixed crowd. He was sitting down by then. I'm glad I got to watch him perform.
in my opinion bb king feels it the most out of almost any musician. the way he has a love for his guitar and the face he makes when he plays just shows how much he really feel the music.
Knowing that such a great man i idolized through my childhood existed and shared his music with the world means a lot. listening to blues cleanses my soul and relieves all of my worries.. The blues goes on. RIP
Would have love to be sitting in their company just to see BB's reaction to himself 30yrs. Ago that would have been a unforgettable thrilling moment...To see the smile on his face....
It's the half steps, the "BLUE NOTES!" but,,, it takes an artist, with a good ear, but more so,,, a good heart,,, to know what notes to play,,, and when!!! This video has made me aware, although I have listened to BB much,, and saw him in New York twice at Westbury Music Fair, of his great blues/jazz chops! Remarkable sense of lead melody and chordal melody!!!
I find it astonishing that some people had the audacity to pronounce in their mind "I don't like this", but also had the courage and lack of heart to actually hit the thumbs down button.
The key change here at 2:10 is just beautiful. The guy NEVER played chords, but if he did, I would imagine they would sound as sweet as these solos. One of the least complicated players, but also more effective in his portrayal of electric blues than just about anyone. The quivering vibrato, string bends, the volume of his attack, the trills, the tone of that sweet Lucille, and BB’s facial expressions-It’s all a part of the gift.
I had read your comment before watching the video so I was waiting for this part and ... god ! as you say this part is really amazing... It's such an ineffable pleasure to listen to this musician
What's so remarkable about B.B. King is his ability to voice his guitar exactly like a singer. I think he cared more about that than the scales, the technicals or any "shredding" ... he wanted to give his instrument a voice. Some of the best blues players of today go back to B.B. for that very reason. He brought to blues guitar what ever real blues guitarist wants to bring in their own way. Some do it better than others.
BB is indeed the master, but credit needs to be paid where its due, man. Listen to the sax in the background, shit! 6:33 to 6:40 blew my mind. That sax player is a genius...so much soul in that phrase its unbelievable.

My grandad bought me my first electric at 13 and first thing I wanted to learn was the great bb king. Thank you bb king and both my pops for showing me such beautiful music. I'm now 32 and hope to teach my daughter guitar when she is old enough.
The line line that starts at 2:14 is ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING
For real though, just crazy awesome.
you can really hear his influence from t-bone walker here

What memories!
This is one of the best comments I have ever red. I wish to be born in 40s in Mississipi and live in those good times.

Gustavo German So true
Love this era of his playing
@@jelopezandthegrips can you recommend any albums when BB had this type of approach to his playing?
@@rz0svp To be honest I think I really started to find it with stuff like this on RUclips - although he's got such a huge discography that there must be some selections that capture it. But of course, like all great bluesman, BB was one thing in the studio and an entirely different beast live.

I can’t figure how anyone can rank any other of his time ahead of him, including the other two kings, but too each his own.
This guy is the definition of class, style, smooth and friendly. BB King eternal
The Thrill is gone, but B.B King lives on.
forever
This song is right at the limit between jazz and blues. LOVE IT
I like how BB had some jazz feel here; how perfect jazz and blues blend together! In his late years BB moved deep in the blues though... Always perfect anyway.
2:14 - 2:29 sweet riffs, lovely magic notes

Blues has never looked as "Royal" on anyone else like B.B.King..He's the total package, good looks, pure guitar sound and he can sing!!!
BB always had so many great players in his bands
This guitar master's playing NEVER gets old...what INCREDIBLE feel and emotion...WAY COOL !!!!!

Tasteful, soulful giant of the blues. Brilliant, amazing B.B.KING.
All the way from Ireland a bottle of Jameson whiskey bb king throwing out his best god I love this man and his guitar

One word. DYNAMICS!!! A lot of music lacks the same level of expression these days :) Thank you BB
BB King an absolute legend and a gentleman. One of the best guitarists ever influenced so many. God bless BB King 🎸 👑
How can the thrill be gone when you walk around in a sharp green suit like that!!!
one of the greatest blues improvisations I have ever heard

God I love film. The way it makes the colors crispy and blurry at the same time. It turned his guitar into a freaking lightsaber.

His phrasing is absolutely incredible
King of the Blues gone home to his KING this very night. R.I.H., B.B. (1926~2015) Prayers goin' up !!!!!!!

I remember the day John Lee Hooker died. We were boozing the whole night. The day before my A level exam. But I didn t care.
2:14 OMG!! What was that!!!! Brilliant
I’ve listened to him for years and he still blows me away like nobody else does!

In all my regrets at this end of life

I deeply and sadly regret
Not seeing this master play live.
I was fortunate enough to see him perform live at the Chippewa tribe's casino twice in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.

I'm glad I got to watch him perform.
In the moment of death

One of BB's greatest performances!
i love how the other dude found the new key that bb is in

Most beautiful piece of music I've had the privilege of hearing å
Never a finer moment for “Blues Boy” King. I don’t think he ever played with more emotion than on this performance. It is a soul-warming experience.
You changed my life!
Thanks for a lot of fun. Rest in peace.
Would have love to be sitting in their company just to see BB's reaction to himself 30yrs. Ago that would have been a unforgettable thrilling moment...To see the smile on his face....
BB was like a creative surgeon with that guitar. So precise yet so artistic at the same time. Unmatched.
The way he modulated from the key of a major to the key of a flat Major using the E flat 13 chord at 2:15 was amazing
He went up a note and turned it into another song!

Absolutely fantastic! Thank you for posting it
68-74 was a great years for live music
I find it astonishing that some people had the audacity to pronounce in their mind "I don't like this", but also had the courage and lack of heart to actually hit the thumbs down button.
sometimes I think they pick something very good to dislike and just come back to see people's reaction
They are called Cunts
I don’t like this 👎
They have no soul
Even worse is the twat who feels the need to point out the dislikes
BB king new how to play a silent note like nobody else. He was a master of melody. ❤❤

Miss you BB. Your music means a great deal to me, but your personality and good humor make it even more special.
Thats why he is bb king hes the king of blues ..sweet ..
R.I.P. BB KING, THANKS FOR ALL UR WONDERFUL TALENT U SHARED WITH US, YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER WITH US!!!!!! GOD BLESS!
feels like he puts the guitar down and picks it’s up after each line, so criminally smooth
Impeccable.. the Duke of Elegance would smile... and the wonderful Texas tenor of Bobby Forte... mmmmercy
BB cool as ever.....it's how you play the notes, and where you leave the spaces. Wonderful playing
Thank You for sharing your gift Mr. B.B. King. As you exit the stage of life WE applaud you!

Thanks, B.B!
thank you franco for showing me this one great performance straight blues baby!
I had read your comment before watching the video so I was waiting for this part and ... god ! as you say this part is really amazing... It's such an ineffable pleasure to listen to this musician
DAMN! When I saw this, it almost made me give up playing the guitar... I'm never gonna be as good as this. Ever.
Just practice dude. I once told myself the same, now I am able to replicate his style - a few more years and I might just create my own.
Beautiful music!

i love that BB king
that's why everybody call him the king
The chairman of the board, ladies and gentleman, who could flat out burn up a guitar if he wanted to.. R.I.P. Mr. King.
BB is indeed the master, but credit needs to be paid where its due, man. Listen to the sax in the background, shit!
6:33 to 6:40 blew my mind.
That sax player is a genius...so much soul in that phrase its unbelievable.
I remember over 25 years ago, both my grandfather's had a bb king VHS tape. They would always play it for me when I was around 3 years old. I always knew I wanted to play guitar after that. My grandad bought me my first electric at 13 and first thing I wanted to learn was the great bb king. Thank you bb king and both my pops for showing me such beautiful music. And as a guitar player I love that you can actually hear the bass
