@@hornguy04 I’ll be playing it this year on mello too! I noticed that part in 105 wasn’t written in the music but is in the recording. How did y’all play the part in 105? It sounds like maybe a rip from a concert G (d on horn) to a D (a on horn) but I’m really not sure.
i was sitting here like, "id love to see somebody perform this" and yesterday at a competition i saw a band performing part of it for their 4th movement
I played this in 1986 when it was first released as a Jenson chart. Terrific writing and emotional impact, and the snare/percussion at the push and finale are amazing. I still get goosebumps hearing it.
Montgomery HS Aztec Marching Units competed with this! 87'- 88'! Fieldshow Jupiter,Tiger of San Pedro, New York Fantasy, Softly as I Leave You, and Pictures at an Exhibition! AWSOME SHOW!!!
Okay, I’m a bells player for this song, but I can still say this. There’s too many bell rolls. Sometimes you just have to let the note go without any rolls. It’ll sound better that way
One of my favorite pieces of music ever!! My band is playing it this year. This piece isn't too over the top in volume but it has such a powerful effect.
my band is playing the Planets for our 2017 show and i think we are using Jay Bocook's other arrangement of Jupiter and im so mad about it because this one is SO FUN. (snare)
+Jakustavius my marching band will be playing jupiter in our show this fall. we aren't going to have a drumline so we are going to have a very different arrangement
You understand this is for a football halftime show, right? I've witnessed total country bumpkins stop eating their nachos and watch/listen to this arrangement. Yes, it's different, and intentionally so. I love the original, too- one of my top 5 orchestral pieces (I'm a teacher of music). However, this is probably the most timeless adaptation for marching band halftime ever written. Take it for what it is.
This arrangement is better and more exciting than the newer version.
Not gonna lie the mello part at the end is fire
Played that junior year! I even played that little bit in measure 105 that wasn’t written in the part but you can hear in the recording.

1:56 just love the build. That is truly one of the best impact moments ever. it just give me this overwhelming feeling of emotion
even more amazing with headphones ^_^
Gamer Newbz i agree. it sounds so beautiful
I played this my freshman yr in hs unbelievable arrangement very drum corpsish Especially at the end
Arabesque had a good build up too
you know it's old when it calls for "triple toms" lol
Egriff123 they nasty
Originally published in 1986 by Jenson (played it my freshman year in college, same year). So, yeah. Triple toms, LOL

This has the best ending I've ever heard.
It's more old school drum corps but I like it a lot
This was written in 86 that is why
I disagree but cool
Yesss, I played this 3 years ago
I love this arrangement
Our band played it!! Should check it out on my page !

except with the rolls it gives the more dramatic impact the song is going for with the rest of the instruments lmao
Cannot stress how hard the drop into the Maestoso section goes

The best song on this channel

Pretty sure this is the arrangement I played on the field in '86 with University of Dayton marching band.
I just realized that 2nd&3rd trumpet play the melody where 1st trumpet has harmony and isn't playing melody at one point. That's unusual...
@2:09
Would you rather have a 2nd trumpet playing the A5?
+WoWKoest you have a point
@@WoWKoest I see you everywhere lmaoo
BrixItz I guess we just have similar tastes lol
Making a routine for this in a conductors class and I have to say, the 2/4 part at the beginning is definitely the hardest to stay in time with
My band is playing this same version at some of our local parades this year
my band is playing the Planets for our 2017 show and i think we are using Jay Bocook's other arrangement of Jupiter and im so mad about it because this one is SO FUN. (snare)
That's disappointing, this one is so much better than the newer one.
Man, I found this piece like, 5 years ago and I remember playing it all the time in robotics club. Man, those were the days.
We are going to play this, mars and maybe something else for marching season and I am excited!!
Could you guys do mars from planets that would be awesome.
I’M IN LOVE.
brings me back to 1982!!!
Thats right i remember the band playing this got 2nd in 86

Ah, the 80s when Yak Baks were still a thing. *I feel old*
Am I tripping or is that marimba/xylophone part at 1:41 extremely out of tune
This was our show this year
@1:31
one of my fav pieces that my band has played! also is there a rip in the horns @ 2:36 ? what notes is it??
shows the notes on the video
How can I find this on iTunes?
I hated playing this for Homecoming my freshman year. We stood there forever on the field playing this.
This one is better than the other one, cuz the percussion part is so different.
Freshman year of college man
How do you March to this in three four time
Did they write it wrong or is the band playing it wrong at the beginning?
what instrument is playing aux 1? i can't tell and it isn't marked.
Sus cymbal
The bells at measure 79 and 80. . . . aahhhhhh
My marching band played this! It was a different arrangement tho.
+Jakustavius So did we. But since we did this for our homecoming court, we only played from one certain measure to another.
+Kitty Larson yeah we changed it a bit too. We added our schools fight song into it to give it our own little flair. It was a lot of fun!
Jakustavius oh cool! I just hated having to stand on the field playing it again and again.
Kitty Larson haha yeah its a lot of work!
+Jakustavius my marching band will be playing jupiter in our show this fall. we aren't going to have a drumline so we are going to have a very different arrangement
Does anyone remember which college recorded this demo track?
Furman University
@@adastrapgh That makes sense- where Bocook has been director for a long time.
this is my life
Same
is their seperate music for 1:56
Yeah! It’s called the chorale. Just look up “Chorale from Jupiter” and you’ll find it easily.
MARS!!!
wrong
It’s only Jupiter
There is a Mars but too complicated to play
*JUPITER*
Ah yes, tritoms
the second part of the song sounds like an authoritarian regime national anthem. i love it
Lmao. This is so easy I play french horn.
Wth so weird, original is still best

Unpleasant, gooey, unclear orchestration, just bad.
Midnight Cinema I thought it was fantastic but to each his own I guess.
Someone must have knocked your ice cream on the floor. As Luke Skywalker said - Everything you just said is wrong. LOL
Could you guys do mars from planets that would be awesome
