  • In this 176th installment, Jimmy finally “relents” and after 3 years of holding off, finally gets his hands on the “Greenie”…the IYV ILS-300 LP style guitar from Inyen Vina Guitars! This particular guitar was purchased from EBay and listed as “New In Box” at the price of $79 plus shipping!
Let’s see what all the fuss is about, shall we? Mr. Green Jeans indeed!

I own three IYV guitars and was really blessed for two reasons. First I was amazed it reached me in one pc. The boxing is terrible. Two- unlike some buyer’s mine came perfect. Not a flaw or scratch and set up was perfect. No intonation needed. I am still amazed how much guitar you get for your money. And here is one more surprise. There are a couple of Luthiers on here discussing this guitar in detail. According to them both unlike Epiphone who uses a Venere top IYV actually uses a Maple Cap And again it just adds to the question how do they do this for the price? One reason I know is that the Vietnamese workers are probably getting paid hardly anything plus the fact they are guitars use computerized cutters, which cuts out perfect bodies and necks every time. I like your videos and I don’t like the doubt anyone, but after me, seeing for myself, the actual cap after the guitar has been completely stripped of everything. Please can you tell me why you think it’s a venere? The three IYV guitars I bought are so different ( with the fact that I use these in the studio, quite a bit and engineers, and most everyone in the studio has never even heard of I YV guitars) My thought, is depending on the song, and the three IYV guitars I own I have a choice in sound.
Please don’t think that IYV guitars are my only guitars I own many hight end or should I call them I own many over priced guitars. I take that back when I bought them they were fairly priced like my Martin D 28 I bought for $1100 Buck in 1990. Now they are three grand and 1995 I bought a Rickenbacker 360 12 string 😮V Les Paul style guitar and was so impressed I bought two the next week. The thinner hollow body jazz guitar that has a piece of hardwood running down the center like Gibson‘s 335s and that guitar does so much more than just a jazz sound. It really rocks out the second one I ordered was the one I considered the hybrid Fender’s Jazz Master or duel, sonic and the mustang that I don’t think I YV makes that Guitar because there was an issue with Fender. Or they’re going to re-design it anyway I’m just a super fan of these guitars I gig with them, and so many are really impressed that they come up asking me what that is followed by how nice looking it is and sounds. I get excited when we talk about these guitars, and I text more than I meant to. This was only about IYV’s. Les Paul style guitar, cap versus veneer.

Hi David…thanks so much for watching and commenting! Like you, I am also a big fan and proponent of Inyen Vina guitars. I have over a dozen different models and have been impressed with each. I have found you get a lot of guitar for the $$ for sure. In the case of this LP, I believe I stated that I was not sure if it was a maple cap or a maple veneer top. Basically the same, but usually your maple “cap” is thicker than a maple veneer top. Either way, the guitar is a bargain and much more guitar than you would expect at the price point! Truly appreciate your stopping in to the channel and sharing your thoughts. Much thanks…🎸👍

I'm so glad you got one of these Jimmy,,I was really impressed with mine,I've had it for couple years now, they are really great guitars,as far as playability and sound, I believe these guitars started the green guitar craze, now you see them everywhere, seems like every company is making more green guitars now, no longer an embarrassing color to gig with, this guitar was the best kept secret, now it's out there, soon to be sold out, just in time for a St. Paddy's day jam🍀🤣👍

The IYV ILS-300 EGR was the second guitar I bought, back in 2021, and I've loved it ever since. It has wonderful chime, rich tones, and plays very nicely. Once you get some lemon oil on that fretboard, you will be amazed at how good it looks. I love seeing your videos for guitars that I already own. It lets me know that I didn't buy a turkey.

Hi MB…I know that a lot of viewers and subscribers do own one of these already, and many have told me over the years that I should grab one. I resisted for a long time for the reasons I indicated in the video, but knew that most, if not all, loved the guitar. I kind of feel that I did the right thing by holding out, as the price ended up being really good in the end..😎
Regardless, it’s worth twice the price (as I find most IYV’s are) and glad I finally decided to grab one. I am looking forward to re-stringing and cleaning! Truly appreciate your stopping in MB…much thanks! 🎸👍

I don't have this one, but I have had a few IYV guitars, and they are usually great. I dig what they do. That is a pretty guitar, and very full and rich sounding. Easy to see why guys like em.' the sg felt extreemly "noseheavy" and wouldnt stay balanced on my leg....then i tried the les paul.....ooo my word....felt perfectly balanced....felt lovely in my arms as i was mooking about with it...
the les paul model i checked out went home with me soon after haha!

Wow! I was NOT expecting you to get this one, since as you say, you already have other great LP-style guitars. I was thinking you might get something more unusual, like the IP-300 solid neck-through model. (I’ve been holding off on getting ANY more guitars, but the IP-300 is tempting just because I prefer solid bodies, and I personally really do like the PRS body style and the aesthetics of the IP-300.) The ILS-300 is probably lightweight in part because it has a maple veneer instead of a true maple cap. I’m not a fan of the LP style either… But now that you have it, I predict you’ll do a comparison between this and the two Monoprice LPs you have. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the goldtop with the P90’s is your favorite one, and the black MP LP with the humbuckers is technically better than this one. I really like the Destiny CNC Wound pickups though-they are very bright and clear sounding compared to many humbuckers out there.

"IYV" got 2 of these. Lol. One I painted, and the other I left green. But yours looks darker/better than mine. There is a lot of extra material routed out of the cavities on the inside. Probably the Vietnamese version of "chambered" I would look into the the nut for your tuning instability. I have had good luck with the tuners. The cap is probably 5/8 like it should be. I noticed while refinishing, but I still think it is a veneer for the flame. The one I painted got outfitted with emg's, and is now my favorite guitar. It's on video on my channel.

That guitar sounds great, Jimmy! I too have avoided these partly because of the emerald green color, but now that my interest is piqued they seem to have disappeared from Ebay and Amazon.
Regarding the blue one, I read that the neck is chunky, more like a 59 neck and that's not of interest to me because I like slim necks.
Regarding the green one, is that a Pao Ferro board? It's light so that's what it looks like to me. I'm not a fan of Pao Ferro but if the rest of the guitar is good it might be worth finding one. Cheers.

Jimmy , since you review many IYV Guitars, any way you could do an honest review of the neck through ISSY NA Guitar? It looks pretty interesting and I don’t own a neck through.

I have looked at it a number of times, but have yet to pull the trigger. Kinda like the situation with this ILS-300…neither model really appealed to me to the point that I “had to have one”. Again, with weight being a concern, but I may include one for future review. Have heard good things…🎸👍

As far as I know, it’s a model they plan to bring to Amazon at some point. Other than that, I really don’t know much else about it. Some saw it listed already, but when trying to order it wouldn’t let them. Price listed was $222. Supposedly there is also a cherryburst version less the FR..

Well I received the ilp 400 fr a day early and I'm sorry to say as pretty as it is its going to be returned,3 strings were broken which loosened the tension on all strings and caused spring to come loose during shipping and strings rubbed on p/u's and neck causing scratches and gouging on neck.
Tuning keys were loose so decided to take one out to find the holes were drilled out at least 2mm to big for a 10 mm tuner,
It doesn't stay in tune overnite...yea i'm disappointed but ....
Cool thing about it was it had two volumes one for each P/U one one tone and the knobs were 1/2 recessed into the body...looked slick...tried to get replacement but only a full refund is offered.
I'd almost keep it but not for full price and they were't offering a % off...I Tried but they weren't biting .@@JimmyStewart1

Hi polocash11…thanks for watching and commenting. I would steer you towards the Monoprice 5W or 15w but they don’t come equipped with a dedicated headphone out. You could look at the “Spark” amps (not valve amps) but very good for home practice with tons of features. Boss Katana, Orange, Fender,….there is really tons of options. You could look at the mini style as well…Nuxx, Danelectro, etc….hope that helps!! 🎸👍

      @@JimmyStewart1 Hi Jimmy!
Yeah, I'm a huge Les Paul shape/HH pickup config fan, and I like the idea now that budget guitars have become so good, that they'd appeal to intermediate players (such as myself) or even experts/pros, let alone beginners.
Accordingly, the IYV has been on my radar, but the colour has put me off pulling the trigger, but I must admit, it's grown on me. I think black trim as opposed to cream would look way cooler.
      Keep rockin!

Yep! For awhile, there was a few sellers blowing these out on EBay new in box for between $89 to $120 depending on shipping. $135 is not a bad price as they were selling on Amazon initially for $150-169

6/18/23. WARNING! IYV will falsely advertise their guitars as “all mahogany “ when they’re actually mixing woods! That’s according to FULTON STREET BEATS RUclips channel. However, FULTON STREET BEATS also gave an IYV Basswood guitar( I believe falsely advertised as an all mahogany guitar) a stellar review, saying that his IYV guitar sounds so good out-of-the-box, that he is not going to modify it... Mahogany is a more expensive, heavier wood than basswood.

    • @JimmyStewart1
      @JimmyStewart1  Год назад

I think folks put way to much stock into their beliefs of “tone woods” and its effect on electric guitars. There are many different types and variations of what most call “mahogany”. There really is nothing wrong with using basswood for a guitar body. In my opinion, if it plays/looks/sounds good, then…👍
      Thanks for stopping in…🎸👍

Hi John…thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah…well…it is what it is. I thought the exact same thing which in reality, was one of the main reasons I held off on this model for so long. In the end however, I have found the color “grows on you”, looks MUCH better in person, and the guitar itself plays/sounds great so I have gotten over it very, very quickly. It has become one of my favs, and it punches WAY ABOVE what you would expect for it’s price!! Appreciate your stopping into the channel…thanks! 🎸👍
