It's better then death active addiction or trying to be abstinent. And the time of the IV use is what Ive found to be amazing.

Methadone is literally harder to come off than heroin and more side effects. Here's an idea...give ppl the fkn heroin safely once a day...slowly taper them and measure their levels.... simple as that. If ppl keep choosing to go back to drugs, give them a certain amount of chances. Coming off oxy or H is literally easier than methadone , mdone is HORRIBLE to come off.... so u give a person something worse than what they were taking lmao. I feel so bad for addicts, literally stuck in the 80s when it comes to treatment....

I mean unless you do a tiered dosage and go down in amount every week, you're just exchanging one addiction for another.

The reason for methadone is to offer people a chance to get their lives back by breaking the cycle of a fast paced street addiction that will wear you out and kill you..living that life isn't any way to live so methadone offers addicts a chance to step out and catch their breath..sure its a worse addiction in a lot of ways but its OK if you have a plan

It's understandable that you would hold this opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but with that being said and all due respect, your statement about trading one addiction for another is a hugely oversimplified comparison. And one reason I think this idea has been perpetuated to such an extent is because of the misconception that addiction and physical dependence mean the same thing and inappropriately use them interchangeably.
Addiction mostly refers to the psychological effects on the brain that causes the obsessive compulsion to keep using more until it overrides all logic and despite the increasingly severe negative impact and consequences on someone's entire life. The longer they partake, the more damage being done to the reward pathways of the brain and that damage in turn causing even more compulsive drug seeking behaviors. It's a vicious cycle.
Dependence is what occurs when the body has come to rely on a medication to operate normally to the point that not having it causes the body to become physically ill. And it's not exclusive to drugs people take recreationally, many different substances can cause withdrawal symptoms if someone suddenly stop taking them, antidepressants and antipsychotics are two very common examples. Dependence alone doesn't make someone an addict.
When someone is on methadone, it's going to give them a chance to work on eradicating those compulsive additive behaviors and it gives the brain time to heal since the pathways effected by dependence and addiction aren't the same reward pathways. It gives them a chance to do all this without the constant painful distraction of withdrawal symptoms. And eventually, once a person is ready, they can choose to tackle the physical dependence by slowly tapering. Doing it all at once is extremely overwhelming to a lot of people. To put it simply, addiction is neurological while dependence is physical. So it's more accurate to say that you're actually trading an addiction and physical dependence for just the physical dependence. It's much more manageable this way and there's plenty of science to back it up.

i ABSOLUTELY AGREE. LOOKING THE POSITIVE SIDE, IT IS BETTER THEN NOTHING BUT. AND BIT BUT. i ATTENDED TO A METHADONE CLINIC /IT WAS ANOTHER COUNTRY HERE IN EUROPE/ IT WAS LIKE THAT. i DID NOT WANT NOT SPEAK WITH ANYBODY BC FOR ME IT WAS AN UPHILL STRUGGLE TO GET IN THE PROGRAM AND IN THE WAITING AREA, IN THE STREET, EVEN AT THE END OF THE STREET, PPL WAS GOSSIPING, CHANGING PHONE NUMBERS, EVERYBODY HAD A SUPER SUPER NEW H, OR SOMEBODY WANTED TO BUY MY METHADONE OR THEY SIMPLE TOOK YOUR METHADONE, IT WAS NOT SAFE TO GO THERE ALONE. OR IT WAS GOOD TO KNOW THE LOCAL GANG SO THEY KNOW YOU AND LET YOU ALONE. THE SECURITY WAS UNDERPAID , THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT GO AND FIGHT WITH ARMED, DRUGGED PPL. SO IF THERE WAS AN ,,ACTION,, THE STAFF CALLED THE POLICE. IT TOOK 5 OR 10 MINUTES THEM TO GOT THERE. BUT BY THEN ALREADY SOMEBODY WAS STUBBED. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. i CAME HOME, THIS COUNTRY MY HOME I LOVE IT. WE CAN COLLECT OUR METHADONE IN ANY PHARMACY FOR A WEEK. THE PAIN CLINIC IS OPEN FROM 9-17 MO TO FRI AND, i GO TO SEE MY LOVELY DR ONCE A MONTH FOR MY PRESCIPTIONS AND APPOINTMENT NEED TO BE MADE. SAFE AND FREE /IN THE OTHER COUNTRY WAS FREE FOR CITIZENS BUT IT WAS RIDICULOUSLY CHEEP LIKE 10 EU PW./ BUT THE NURSES WERE CORRUPT EVEN THE DR WAS THE BIGGES DEALER, HE WAS COUGHT WITH A BOX OF 20MG METHADONE /200 PCS/ AND NO HE WAS NOT FIRED. THE NURSE YES. BUT THE DR WENT FOR A LONG 6 MONTH-HOLIDAY AND CAME BACK AND BECAME THE HEAD OF THE ADDICTOLOGY. THAT COUNTRY IS HUNGARY I LIVED THERE WITH MY EX FOR 5 YEARS AND IT IS AN EU OUNTRY BUT LIKE A BALKAN.

Totally. The psychology shit is stupid. They just assume we all had trauma at some point in our lives. Like, the shrink I saw, was digging and was absolutely sure that I had some covered up trauma. He was one of those "all addiction stems from trauma" fucks.
Nope. I was just a dumb shit who tried drugs, liked how it felt and got addicted. It's that simple.
13 years clean now, so I don't have to worry about it. Still was very annoying

In Greece if you are clean take home methadone for 15 days. I am in methadone program 20 years and they give me 750ml, 50ml per day, but stop give ''take home'' when test you and you are not clean, then you must to come every day until to the next test is o.k 3 days ''take home'' after 5 days until 15 days. This program is without money!!!! Saved my life!!!!
