    Sad that it’s closing

At this point I'm ready for Sears to be over with. It's just so sad to see how far they have fallen. Eddie Lampert is such a buffoon. He killed two Iconic store brands. I know they both could have been saved with proper management and leadership. Just sad.

The font used on that newer signage appears to be the same one Kmart's been using for its advertisements.

This mall eventually look like nearby Ford City . Ok in daylight but a bad element at night and weekends. Very few in the area still go there . Haven’t been there now in 7 years. Been evening shooting there in parking lot. Wouldn’t want my children there anything. Most BDubs are mostly adults. The one here is mostly teens from nearby Oaklawn HS . The Panera closed . Panera never closes unless unprofitable. When I went there I saw vagrants coming in with cubs and helping themselves to sodas . The once mobbed Connie’s pizza closed there. The movie theaters were once nice and neighborhoods kids went on weekends , now no one in area attends there much. One violent situation there and it’s over. Most of the stores are junk stores and cater to the bizarre tastes of extreme youth. In the 80s and 90s a favorite of local people. When the locals leave, you’re toast. Many in those south suburbs like Oaklawn, Burbank, Chicago ridge, bridgeview, Bedford park now go to nearby countryside to shop . Lagrange too. Oakbrook is most bustling outdoor mall closest to shop at. Even Orland square becoming a crime area in parking lot, and in mall. Ridge mall will never return to the period before 2000. When junk stores like cologne knockoffs, kids jump and fun, and discounted crap stores enter the malls, it’s in decay !

What was their downfall is when Kmart and Eddie lambert took control of the company

I am mall train and gaming 555 on my alt (RUclips kept removing my comment) anyway what I said was that this is sad and I only have been here a couple times, the main locations I went to were Stratford, Charlestowne, fox valley, Spring Hill and woodfield. Also as a suggestion maybe film the Spring Hill mall as it is dying if you have time,

Interstingly the “new” signage reminds me of the Kmart “remodel” that was done in Des Plaines around the same time.
To me, it shows a missed opportunity at proper synergy between the two brands; along with the Sears in Brooklyn that added a miniature Kmart inside.

I've said this before, but I am convinced that the whole "Softer side of Sears" campaign from the early 1990's was the company's downfall. Instead of focusing on the "hardlines" that had been their strength for decades - tools, appliances, car parts, sporting goods, electronics - the company decided that Hey, there's a huge market in women's clothing, big markups too, let's focus on that! What no one considered is that while indeed there is a huge market for women's clothing and big markups, there's also brutally high competition. Not to mention that in an image-conscious field like women's clothing, Sears' somewhat old fashioned, stodgy image would be a huge drawback.

@@LostDepartments Thanks. The difference a few hours makes. Apparently the city of Chicago Rdg says they've already helped to line up a tenant for this building. But that's that--now I'm just curious to see how long the Woodfield store hangs on for. The Woodfield store is not only the last in Illinois, but also the last Sears to still be open at a Homart (Sears) built mall.
