  • In this video, I stop by the Hicks farm as they are prepping a soybean field to be planted with winter wheat. They take out the 1370 case and tiger-two 5-shank ripper out to get the ground ready to be disced, planted and culti packed.

    Problem with this type of 5 shank as you call it many years ago the USDA came up with the BIG OX which broke up the plow pan. And that problem on dry land farming was the BIG OX broke the plow pan but what surfaced was big big chunks of soil. Took some farms several years to break up the soil.

      They do winter wheat as the cover crop.

      You are correct. The ripper really needs about a 200+ hp tractor to run it how it needs to be but the 160hp gets the job done. On flat ground he is able to run it deep except on hills and then he has to raise it up some.
