    I love this video! Very true of our small town. The GOOD definitely outweighs the bad & ugly.

    Wow you didn’t mention the heat and humidity?

    • @DaveOrcutt
      @DaveOrcutt  9 месяцев назад

      Howdy. Texas definitely has the heat! But living on the lake usually means a breeze, so we might feel cooler than other towns in the area.
      As far as humidity, probably better than at the coast near Houston, but more humid than farther north.
      Thanks for the question, Johnny!

    Granbury is nice...very nice actually, but the taxes there is nothing short of a KILLER...and if you are on the water like I was back in the mid 90's to 2000...get ready because here it comes with no KY Jelly. When my taxes went nuclear in 1999, I put my place up for sale and was out of there by May 2000. Now, the only reason I go there is to put my boat in the lake and it is getting to the point with the Brazos River Authority that I dont care if I go there or not. The BRA people seem to like to stop anyone with a big boat that is capable of running over 100 mph. They have even stopped me when cruising at 60 mph telling me that I was going way too fast. When I ask, "what is the posted speed limit on this lake," they pretty much shut up telling me to slow down then leave. As for being on the water for July 4...hold on Lucy. You are correct about possibly several hundred boats being on the water, but when the fire works are over, all Hell breaks lose and it is a drag race to the nearest boat ramp. The last time I was on the water in my boat was a while back, but when the show was over, we just sat there for close to an hour while all the idiots took off like they are qualifying for the Daytona 500. Even waiting for as long as we did that night, we saw 3 boat crashes on the way to the boat ramp by the dam. People who do not know this lake better get a map showing the center of the channel or you are going to most likely get yourself in a real mess. I have noticed that the BRA has put buoys out for the center of the channel in places, but they are so far apart that they are almost no help at all...and it would really help to put lights on the buoys.

      I read Governor Abbott was lowering property taxes…or was that just another ploy of his leadership.

      Howdy, Honda. Good observation!
      Actually our school taxes (60% of the tax burden) are now the 2nd lowest in the region for a non-urban district. (Glen Rose is lowest.)
      You're right that lakeside property has higher taxes, because lake property usually has a higher assessed value! Prices on the lake have definitely appreciated even more since you were here.
      You must have a faster boat than me! I got stopped once for a safety check, BRA officers were cool and polite. But be sure you have your boat requirements! Fire extinguisher, lifevests available for all onboard, etc...
      LMK if I can help if you decide to look at lake property again!

    Was considering outskirts of Granbury then heard about the bitcoin mine. Any update there? How far does the noise and medical issues travel? Thanks

    • @DaveOrcutt
      @DaveOrcutt  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi Josh - great question!
      The bitcoin "mine" is a huge grouping of shipping containers filled with hundreds of servers. They have large fans on top of them to cool them.
      It is about 3 miles from Pecan Plantation, about 3 miles from the southern edges of the population around Granbury, and maybe 7 miles from the middle of Granbury. But immediately around it is lightly populated.
      Folks immediately around the servers, and even as far as Pecan say the noise can be very loud, making it hard to sleep, and affecting their health. Serious stuff if you're living with it.
      I've shown houses in that area, and honestly heard nothing when I was 1000 feet away. However, I don't discount what locals are dealing with, maybe especially when weather conditions are right.
      A new company bought the server farm, and is now attempting to mitigate the problem. I've seen them changing out the types of fans, adding trees, etc. I hope it works!
      Definitely a reason to always use a local realtor wherever you move! They know conditions that you may not realize when you visit a house.

      @DaveOrcutt thank you Dave. I figured out the address knowing Constellation Energy is their neighbor. My wife and I will be in town late September to check out the area. If we like what we see, we'll absolutely keep you in mind for a realtor. Thanks again!

      We're in the "outskirts" of Granbury. We even live in the direction of the bitcoin mining facility and can't here it. There are many places outside of city limits that nice. Out towards Tolar is real nice

      @@vinceruland9236 There are some great places south of town towards Glen Rose. But I agree, out towards Tolar is a very attractive option.
      We had great results from the Granbury schools - my kids did very well there, and it has so many options for electives and job training paths. But for some, the smaller Tolar schools are a great option. Tolar is growing fast!

      We've got great gyms here in Granbury. I can steer you to one that you'd like. Or to a good house, if you're moving to the area!

      @DaveOrcutt I took steroids for several years, so try to sell that to someone else. Not only that, but I've seen several older men in the area either on replacement therapy or outright using. Between genetics and age, it's extremely rare or highly unlikely. Being in shape is one thing, but going beyond genetics and age is something entirely different.

      @DaveOrcutt Steroids and performance enhancing drugs have destroyed countless lives. Having body dysmorphia or trying to find your value and worth in your physical appearance is as destructive as anything. I would never encourage someone to pursue any type of competition where the physical appearance is what wins. It's nothing personal against you. You're an adult, so you make your own choices. But when I see it plain as day on some random video like this, I call it out. I've been there, and I know how enslaving and life changing it can be. It's no different than any other typical addict or alcoholic who doesn't think they have a problem. I was simply saying in my original reply that it's not worth it. Hoped it would spur you to think about it since someone else called you on it. Not only that, but it really doesn't look good. Looks unnatural, clownish, and insecure. Between body fat percentage, vascularity, mass, and hyper-developement of muscles where they shouldn't be, it's pretty obvious to anyone who knows. Just hate seeing people go through what I went through, knowing how devastating and hard it is to break free from. Regards.
