I love Sandpoint, but everything north of Sandpoint is beautiful, okay everything south in Idaho isn’t bad either. We started thinking we wanted to live in Hayden but went to Bonners Ferry for a day trip fell in love and bought a house in Naples Idaho and absolutely love it.

if you take that route east from Sandpoint into Montana, right after clark fork you'll find a random junkyard on the side of the highway with nothing but 1930s and 1940s vehicles it's so awesome

I came to Sandpoint in the mid 60's, it was a very nice place to live then and up through the mid 90's. But since roughly 2010 it has been getting not so nice, and especially since 2020 it has gotten ugly with all the people and the not so friendly attitudes that have come with all the people. The city planners, influenced by Boise, created an absolute mess for driving around Sandpoint. The roads and traffic lights are not capable of handling the amount of traffic that has descend upon the small town. For the most part the long time residents are starting to leave, or are not happy anymore if they can't leave, because things have changed so much. Yes it's beautiful here, but not at all what it used to be, because the small quiet town has been inundated by way too many residents that came from ugly cities. And probably the most undesirable part of Sandpoint now is that there are almost no places to earn a living that can facilitate living here.

We live in Hope, we LOVE IT! Sandpoint with its larger population it is nicer than down south. The biggest plus is that WE can eat the fish out of the lake. There was not the mining here so the Mercury is not here in the lake or fish. The work is not as abundant here, but I have found a job that pays about half or what of what I made down south. I have a mountain going up my back yard. I have bear poop in my front yard in the spring and summer. Trusstle creek runs through my neighbors back yards. Deer, elk and mountain lions run around here. I don’t go out in my yard without a side arm. I retired here ( my work is VERY part time). We will live out our days at this house. But, a word of warning……….. we’re full here!😅😅😅😅

  • @lakemoonlight4697

The actual city of Sandpoint cannot geographically grow anymore. This realtor isn't telling you the boundaries and planning issues, the water issues, the limited public access to the lake and Priest river, or the number of perpetual trains. South of the Long Bridge is the community of Sagle, west is the city of Dover and north is the city of Ponderay - each touching the boundaries of Sandpoint.
Litehouse dressing is the only large corporation within the city limits of Sandpoint. There's a SuperOne Foods and Safeway in Sandpoint, a Home Depot and large Walmart in Ponderay. Costco is a 40 minute to 1.5 hour drive to Coeur d'Alene.
The most beautiful city in Idaho? That's a personal opinion and many Idaho residents would disagree.
FYI - a paid tram ride will take you to the top of Schweitzer Mountain to get the view in the beginning of this video. And the deer pictured . . . not very healthy looking from my decades of watching wildlife.
This message is from a former northern Idaho and Wyoming resident.

We moved here almost 10 years ago from Bellingham, Wa., (another beautiful city *but sadly has become overcrowded, woke nightmare*)
We live in Clark Fork, 7 miles out of town in the wilderness. The drive to and from Sandpoint around Lake Pend Oreille is just gorgeous❣️🏞️Family and friends come to visit and we love to take them up to Schweitzer during the season, and into the town of Sandpoint in the summer to hang out at City Beach, shop the Cedar St. Bridge Mall, and all the other various quaint shops.
It is growing though. There are a lot of new construction apartments/condos in the last few years.

Sandpoint used to be a beautiful little town. They have ruined it by building ugly condos in town and ruined a beautiful park with a really ugly building. It's becoming way over crowded. It's losing it's quaintness. At least the scenery is still beautiful.

I kind of thought Sandpoint would be your choice here. I grew up there and will be returning there. I agree with everything you said and would add a few more amenities to your list: 1) Restaurants. There are lots of quality restaurants in town plus a short drive to Hope gives you a few more high-end choices. 2) In the summer, weekly farmers market and (right across the street) a small pod of food carts. 3) Hiking trails. Notable is the Mickinnick Trail right on the edge of Sandpoint (trail is 3.5 miles one-way, medium difficulty, and ends at a vast overlook of Sandpoint and the lake).

I'm from Sandpoint. Yes, Sandpoint has taken a "blue turn" in politics. However, a local resident told me that recently when the city council wanted to make Sandpoint a sanctuary city and had a town meeting to discuss it, the local residents made it manifestly clear that they did not want this and the resolution didn't pass.

I grew up in Spokane, and left in 1974. I moved my family back to Spokane to take care of mom in 1992. One of the fist things we did as a young family was take a trip up to Sandpoint. All three kids loved it! We swam at the beach all afternoon and then explored restaurants for dinner. We moved away shortly after that trip because of work, and I miss it dearly! It’s such a gorgeous place through all 4 seasons… I just love it there. So many trees! So many places to fish! So many scenic spots! Retiring soon and hope to be back up there very soon!
