Silver Cymbal Hey I built something like similar that out of an old fridge metal shelf and an old rake handle. But I also built a trammel to sift the earth or the sand from the beach I sometime use for divers. Thanks for the video

I like this idea better than renting a roller to level out the yard! It doesn't take up alot of time. It's not noisy either if you have a few spots to fill in on a work night. Plus it doesn't take up alot of storage space either.

I mix 1/3 top soil 1/3 multch or peat moss and 1/3 aged alder sawdust. Works good on coastal climate that has high sand content. Of course trace minerals and lime to balance ph to absorb nutrients. In climate 100"-140" rain per year and costal micro climate. Local plants help. A local nursery of trees helps as well.

Good stuff. My front lawn is very uneven and basically there are big pockets of water when it rains hard. My old landscaping co wanted $1700 to level it and put new grass in. I know I would need a big amount of soil/sand to fill it in.

Love the rake, I have a small yard 63x30 to level, just removed extra dirt with a crew and bobcat yesterday and today, half the yard was leveled but the bobcat left the ground uneven, the crew says they can level it but I like this tool and saved it in my amazon list just in case they do not do good job i would buy it and do it myself, we need to level the ground, treat for weed, put some weed protection sheets along then instead of sod i would get those green rugs from Loves to cover the majority of it, the idea is to create a level space enough to build a shed in one side then we have an above ground pool of 32x16 to set up; the half that was leveled previously we had a 16x16 round pool before when the kids were younger; now they are teens but want the pool back; kudos to your helper there; she is adorable, enjoy her because they grow fast and one day you wonder where the time went! Cheers from Las Vegas!

Great vid. I am up to a 40.000 sqft yard at the moment using this tool. One tip … you better sift the soil first. I just bought a 1/8 1/2 and a 1/4 screen for my bobcat sifter to do that.

    • @SilverCymbal
      @SilverCymbal  6 лет назад

normally when you rake, everything (rocks, sharp sticks, etc.) get sunk into the dirt. This isn't the case with a tine rake, in fact they do a great job at pulling debris to the top so it can be picked out. I have a soil spreader and I love it, but I would reach for the tine rake all day to do this.

Fighting myself like heck Not to buy this crazy expensive tool but....your success is very persuasive. Oh, I would have no problem spending that money on fishing gear! Priorities.
Been looking at topsoil and it is disappointing to see that all bagged topsoil is shipped as “mud”, that is, 100% wet! That’s why a bag weighs 40 lbs. not cool.
Love to see a Happy kid “working” with Dad.

@5:13 you say “It’s 36 inches wide...”, but the links you have put up on here are actually for the 30” version. They make both...which do you have ?
If you have the wide (36”) one, do you wish it were a little narrower? If you have the narrower (30”) one, do you wish it were a bit wider?

We would use them on tee boxes especially Par 3's to repair areas with lots of divots. We would make small piles of a dark sand and seed mix and incorporate it into the turf with the level-all just like you did. Nice work!

Good video. Do you recommend the three foot lute or the four foot version?

Great demo & cool rake, but jeepers how many stones did he put into the lawn. Surely you would filter first?

Thank you, sadly this load of dirt was not well screened. But at least the rake brought them up so I did grab a few handfuls of them and it wasn't bad in the end.

What do you need to do before and after to make sure that the grass grows back after you cover it mostly with sand? Thanks.

Your daughter should do voice-over work. She has great rhythm, inflection, and tone for her age.

No voice actor. Creep with daddy issues living in mothers basement?

Do you think it’s a good idea to seed the leveled areas also instead of just watering?
I have some areas that drop down a little bit and have a feeling that leveling them off will bury the grass a bit and potentially kill some of that existing grass.

mike33033 - I would if it was me honestly. Fall seeding would be ideal. Great video and an Amazing tool..

Saw another visor to level out grass but they used mix of sand and potting soil. Which is better in your opinion?

For Bad Weeds - Is it recommended to perform the process of killing the weeds (Tenacity, Surfactant, Dye) then do this leveling process right after? Thx!

Can I do this on my st grass as well? What was the dirt you used? I've seen other channels used sand only or a mix of sand and compost

Hi, I noticed you didn't put any grass seed down. Didn't you need to? My backyard I have a nice section of just grass, I have another large section of patches of grass in some spots, completely bare in some and others that have patches of weeds. The soil is flat and hard. I'm thinking of tilling it and then reseeding the bad area of the lawn. I really want this to look perfect.

Yes, if you have grass growing but the areas just need some leveling the grass will grow through the new topsoil. It wont hurt at all to add some seed but its really not needed .
